Hi, i work professionally for magazines, and start of 2014 i got a 8770w Dreamcolor for working on the go. Since the beginning i was not satisfied with my displays color, so about 10 days ago i got a B1F63AA HP DreamColor Calibration Solution to calibrate it.

I really have to tell you that the computer is working flawlessly, is very fast for my job and very stable, never crashed once so far, but i am having big trouble trying to calibrate my 8770w Dreamcolor's display.

The software installs and runs just fine, the procedure of calibration goes through just fine, the generated color profile for my external display is pretty good, BUT whatever i try concerning my 8770w's display just doesn't work. And i don't mean the calibration is off or that i am not satisfied with the outcome, what i mean is, that after completion of the calibration process an icc color profile is generated, but nothing is stored in the display's hardware memory and/or MDA, like nothing happened (nothing changes, everything is exactly the same as before calibration)!!!

I am at a loss here, either i am doing something very stupid or something is really wrong, software or hardware... please help me.

    My hardware is:
    HP EliteBook 8770w cpu i7-3920XM, ram 32GB 1600MHz, gpu NVIDIA Quadro K5000M
    HP DreamColor Calibration Solution B1F63AA

    My software is:
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    HP Mobile Display Assistant v3.04
    HP DreamColor Calibration Solution v2.2.0

    PS
I am sorry if my English is not very good, it's not my native language.

Which profile you have used for the calibration? You should use Full/Native, I don't know if it affects the rest. Have you tried to load the profile through Window's Color Management (you really shouldn't do this, since it is supposed to write on the color board itself). You'll be better off with HP support to be honest :)

Yes, i tried Full/Native and every other profile, but to no avail. The calibration reflects to the Chromaticity text values in MDA but visually nothing changes :( and i agree with you about loading the profiles.

I think it's really meat for the desktop DreamColors, not for the laptop ones. The color board used is different. Look around in the settings of the software if there's anything laptop/mobile display related.

Just read the full specifications, it says that it is compatible with the mobile DreamColors. You really have to reach them.

The software and hardware, it is compatible for sure. I am trying to get in chat with HP support, but it stops me saying that my serial number is not valid... Do you know any HP support, email address i can send to?

Try x-rite's support page, or contact them directly, they are the manufacturer.

I already did, and this was their answer:

    "Many thanks for your request.

While X-Rite was involved with HP in the creation of these programs, and X-Rite technology is included in these programs, the actual support of these two HP programs is specifically provided by HP themselves. These programs were created for HP by HP, with X-Rite color technology licensed by HP.

Our support group will not be able to assist you with the HP software side of this, but can support you with the use of i1Match software and an X-Rite i1Display2 device.

Here’s the contact information within HP that we’ve been provided. I hope that this might simplify your search within HP for technical support on their software. HP is set up to handle all HP DreamColor APS questions. Please use the following link to access the HP support options:

Home | Official HP® Business Store

    Kind Regards"

And this is the point, i get stuck in the HP website, with the invalid serial number message...

Lovely... Well sorry, I don't have it and from your posts, I probably wont get it, although it was the prime candidate, once I source THE DreamColor that is.

HP DCS is compatible with the mobile DreamColor displays.

There are lots of possibilities here. Check the Device Manger in Windows first (Windows Key + R to open the run menu, type devmgmt.msc and then press Enter) and look in there for anything with a yellow exclamation point or other error indicator. If there are no errors, that's good.

Next is to look at the Windows Event Viewer for logged issues (Windows Key + R to open the run menu, type eventvwr and then press Enter) and look for errors under Windows Logs > Application and also System. See if anything interesting is under the Applications and Services section as well (I'm unsure if the HP software creates its own section in there or not).

Finally I'd try uninstalling the HP DCS software, restarting the system and then reinstalling the software and trying the calibration again.

At that point, contact HP via phone. Your system is likely still under warranty.

Hahaha, no worries, get it, just make sure the dc display calibrates ;) It is an awesome computer, i love it, it's working 24/7 photoshop, rendering, whatever you name it, no overheating, no throttling, very stable no crashes at all, bulletproof construction, i take it with me all around the world for one year now, laughable battery life, but it's no ultrabook :), it's a powerhouse, and as a desktop replacement it rocks.

And the dreamcolor display... just looking at it in native mode and uncalibrated i can really see the potential it has, but until i find what i am doing wrong or what is wrong with the hardware or software, as it is, it's a no go. The only thing that saves me so far, is that i worked for many years as a scanner operator, scitex, linocolor etc, and i know how to work and edit with color values alone. But that i can do with any display.

    @ Charles P. Jefferies #9

Device Manager in Windows is all good, Windows Event Viewer Application and System is good, under Applications and Services / HP Software Framework there are many errors like:

"|Error |[hpcasl]Command::Get{hpCasl.enReturnCode(string,object&)}|An exception occurred Specified cast is not valid."

but they go back since i got it, nothing else.

I already tried unistalling, restarting, installing, restarting both HP MDA and HP DCS to no avail.

My system is not under warranty, and i am not located in the USA, but i will try to contact HP via phone, thanks!

Ok i am stuck in a dead-end. I contacted HP by phone, and they say can't help me, because the serial number i provide is invalid. Maybe there was a previous repair and the serial was not programmed in the machine, or something. And there is no sticker with the serial on the notebook. And i can't get in chat with HP without providing the serial... Any ideas guys?

I could've missed it but I don't see you mention where you got you DCS/DCCS? Try to contact them/the place you got it.

Sound like you got a awesome factory calibration..

If it is writing on the chromactiy text, it should be working?

If you want to check if it is working, I would try argyllcms with dipcalgui( DCS should work with argyll? definitely wont work with i1 profiler last I heard) to verify your calibration/profile.

    @ triturbo #12

8770w was bought second hand from another's forum user, i messaged him yesterday (mostly about the serial number issue) and waiting reply. DCCS was bought new from a store, i see no point contact them, as the probe works and generates icc profiles.. i guess they will pingpong me to HP anyway.

    @baii #13

Thanks for the info about argyllcms and dispcalgui, it certainly looks very attractive for perfecting the icc profile of my external display. I even tried the ArgyllPRO ColorMeterDemo for my android phone, and it works just fine with my OEM i1d3 probe included in the DCCS.
The problem is that the DCCS works ok for generating icc profiles, but (i think) i don't really need an icc profile for my dreamcolor display, as it should store the calibration in the displays hardware memory (selectable from MDA), and it doesn't...

There are options to verify the calibration and profile(even the one created from DCCS).
