I have a Probook 6560b. Bios just updated to F.61 Rev.A. (sp72496.exe) In hopes this would fix the problem. It didn't.

The problem: DvD drive not found in boot menu in bios. Put in new hdd, ready to install w7, no dvd option.

You can open and close the dvd drive no problem, you can hear the cd spin and load then nothing. When you turn the laptop on with a dvd in the tray you can hear it spin and start during boot, but it does not start auto and again, no option to select it. It's not under device manage either. Not recognized at all. But yet opens, spins and sounds like it wants to start the DVD...WTF

I feel there is something in the bios that is not resetting that's not letting it communicate since it loads, opens etc.. Feels like some stupid setting is blocking it.

Attempts I have tried? Just about everything.

    - Updated bios.
    - About 5 different DVD drives from other laptops
    - Remove cmos to reset bios.
    - Enter bios and reset to defaults.
    - Checked to delete upper and lower filters in windows. There were no filters to delete.

I buy from businesses in bulk. So I don't know if there is some kind of security thing enabled to not let me boot.

I have tried legacy and uefi although this bios is so complicated. There is no secure boot to disable or enable that I see and there are all different cd rom or upgrade bay drives to enable to disable in bios EXCEPT there is no disable, everything is change, view or hide.

Which makes me feel like I messed up in a bios setting or have something enabled when it should be disabled and vice versa.

Anyone with this model laptop or bios version that can tell me what to enable to or disable? The original thread for this model is locked and closed.

    Sorry for long read.

I'm super familiar with HPs, but given that the notebook is older and you can't see it in the BIOS, means that the optical drive is broken? Have you tried re-seating the drive?

Yes, I did. I tried 5 different dvd optical drives from other laptops. All the same thing. You can hear it spin, open and close but just doesn't play anything. and is not recognized anywhere. None of the 5 dvd optical drives from separate laptops i used were recognized.
