    Hi Folks,

I am currently enjoying and exploring my new 8740w.

It has the 2800M GPU in it. How can I increase the resolution from the current 1920 x 1200 on my external 22in monitor. The icons look too big etc.

I also use my old HP nx8220 (x600 GPU) on the same monitor and it can to 2048 x 1536 although I guess moving off the screen. However the icons are smaller leaving me more space.

The external monitor seems to be showing up as a "MB24W" whatever that is.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Sam

It may be my DGM 24inch monitor that is the limitation which seems to support upto 1900 x 1200. When I change my XP resolution up to 2048 X 1556, it will do it, but one has to pan around the monitor to get the full screen.

From this I have a couple of questions:

    1) If I got a more capable monitor, would I be able to get more resolution from my 8740w when connected to the external monitor?

    2) How can I decrease the size of the icons etc? Is the "Make text or other items larger or smaller" feature... ie small, medium and large or is there a more advanced way. I am using Windows 7 pro.

    Thanks,

    Sam

you can get up to 26xx x 15xx it's 5am, i can't remember the exact numbers out of the 2800M but it will be slow as a dog because its an ancient card.

as for changing the 'size' as you put it, it's called the DPI of the screen. windows uses a standard 96x96 pixel setup, but you can change this as you like. making this higher will make fonts/text and icons bigger on the desktop.

    hope this helps.
