These laptops came out of a corporate environment and they need new LCD panels installed. "cracked LCDs"
    First question is:
These came with the standard 14.1" WXGA(1280x800) Matte
i would like to know if i was to order in the 14.1" WXGA+(1440x900) Matte screen as replacements, is there an issue here? Since those panels only cost under $10 additional.
These are NOT the LED screens.
It would be my understanding that there should be no issues at all.

They all have the ATI Mobility HD 3450, with 256 MB of dedicated video memory (discrete graphics).

My personal 6930p has the WXGA+(1440x900) with webcam whereas these are without the webcam

Next question is: Does anyone have a good source supplier here within the states for these panels, it seems they run about $120+ each.
Feel free to pm me the links.

    Thank you any help.

Besides that 1440x900 on a 14" will make for DAMN SMALL FONTS, i don't see any issues.

You may find that the LCD ribbon cable needs to be replaced too. I have had this before when changing XGA to higher res on older HP laptops. The XGA one needs fewer connections/lines in the cable, so for some reason they decided to run 2 separate parts for the cable and save themselves maybe $0.02 per unit. So one cable that only does XGA, and another one that does all resolutions.

You will know if this is the case as soon as you replace one, you will see what can only be described as a "vertical interlace" on the screen. It will work fine, but will look kind of like and old arcade game, with thin black lines between the actual lines.

Thank you all thus far for your input.

It seems to me that both panels use a 30 pin cable.
    This is my main concern.
Has anyone here done the upgrade without the need to replace that data cable?

The next question is more for the Diy people.
If i was to flip these, would the buyer more prefer to replace the LCD of their choice or should it not matter.

I know in the end i would find more buyers if the screen was replaced prior to sale.

As i said, i have two of the 6930p in the house for personal use, i prefer the higher res of the WXGA+ whereas my wife likes the WXGA
Maybe because i do more video, the font size is no problem with the eyes just yet.

Sure, if you are comfortable with the resolution, it's no problem. It's like 1920x1080 on a 17" - readable, but unneded imo.

I'd say swap the panels on all of them, if the buyer has poor eyesight you can always increase the DPI setting and make fonts larger.

Shouldn't be too hard to find one in ebay or even using HP Partsurfer.

Tape it, use a tiny drop of glue or something. Because the alternative is to replace motherboard...

Since this old thread is alive i figure i should update how the panel upgrade replacements went.
All the original panels within these 6930p happen to be samsung panels.
I ended up ordering not necessary from the lowest cost supplier yet
from one i have ordered from many times prior.
Paid $92 each shipped overnight fedex.

The replacement was painless it may have taken 20 minutes each.
The most difficult part was to transfer the black plastic film that HP places on the back of oem panels.
I did not have to do this, yet felt may as well while i was in there.

Yes the panels can be switch from WXGA(1280x800) Matte to WXGA+(1440x900) Matte screens, simply plug & play no cable changes necessary

So it seems the graphics system will detect the display resolution and support either. I have seen brand new Samsung LTN141AT02-001 LCD screen listed at $69.69. Which would you pick if you have a choice between WXGA and WXGA+, glossy and matt?

    That is a personal decision,
I went with matt screens, due to the fact that these were still under HP onsite warranty for several more years.
It will go unlikely noticed by HP in the event of a warranty claim.
I suppose you could pickup any & retain the original lcd in the event warranty is needed, then re-install the original.
Make sure the LCD is a 30 pin cable connector and all should be good.
