Hi, actually I don't own a Hp notebook...
but I still think it's better to post this thread here...

well, what I'm planning to do is to replace the LCD screen LP171WU1-(TL)(A2) in my 17" Clevo M571TU to the Dreamcolor one used in Hp 8730W.

I know this sound crazy, but after some research I found out that this two model have the same configuration, my M571TU has PM45 mobo, QX9300 cpu, 8GB DDR3, and a Quadro FX3700M.

I checked the spare parts manual of Hp 8730W, I confirmed that the Dreamcolor screen model is LP171WU5-(TL)(B1) with RGB LED backlight, however it's really strange that the manual says the Dreamcolor LED panel doesn't use inverter, instead, it requires a ambient light sensor (which does not have a 2 pin power connector, strange...), then what power up the LED backlight?

Anyway I've decided to have a go, I ordered the screen, LED cable and ambient light sensor from a friend in Taiwan, China. After Christmas, I'll be able to prove it by myself whether this gonna work or not.

If you have any comments/suggestions, please post them here, thanks.
    Finally, wish me luck!

    thank you! that's informative!
So, according to my understanding, there is only one connection between the LED panel and the ambient light sensor, right? And I saw the picture of the LED cable, it has four connectors, one goes to the screen and how about the other three?

here is an image of the LED cable:
