    Hello,
Im new here. I just ordered a refurbished HP 5310m business book (ULV 1.2Ghz one) for a good price, but the problem is that there is no OS installed and no COA label on it :( . I haven't received the laptop yet, can't wait to get it.

My question and problem is, I don't want to spend an extra $100 or more (after buying the laptop) to buy another OS system. I already purchase windows 7 home Upgrade DVD ($100 for my other laptops) several months ago. I just found a HP windows XP Full OS DVD with COA. Can I install the HP windows XP DVD on the HP 5310m (since the OS has been removed) then upgrade it to windows 7 home? Or is it just better to buy a full version of windows 7? I hate to spend more money right now, after just purchasing the laptop.

Anyway, the reason for choosing this laptop was for its looks, design and battery life. Battery life is really important to me. I recently purchase a Lenovo U460 thinking it would have great battery life, but the result was bad. the U460 has the worst battery life for a 14" 8 cell battery laptop (lasting only 3 hours or less with No wifi on!). I have the U460 with the standard voltage CPU (it eats up battery, but very powerful) not the low voltage one. Well, the HP 5310m is suppose to have 5 hours of battery life (on only 4 cells) with wifi on. That's enough for me, because i don't use wifi when im away from home. The place i attent don't allow you to use wifi. I have to stay there for about 3 1/2 hours, so this laptop battery should last me for that time while I'm there (hopefully).

This would be my first time installing an OS on a clean harddrive.

    Thanks...

    Hello again,
I just received my HP 5310m laptop. Very nice looking machine, but i have a major problem. I was afraid this would happen. I try installing the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 DVD. I booted up the disk, everything work and the disk went to install windows XP and then I got that error!
    Stop: 0x0000007b (0xF78d2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
    what does this mean?

I did a google search, but i still don't understand what the problem is and how to solve it. I just order a windows 7 Pro recovery DVD. I guess win XP SP2 have problems installing on PCs because the harddrive is wipe clean.

    What should I do?

    Thanks,
    Lorenzo

0x7b refers to hard drive. Missing driver or broken drive, windows gives same bsod code. Since it is a new computer, running a disc check such as seatools is a good idea.

    http://www.seagate.com/support/inte...-electronics/ld25-series/seatools-dos-master/
It works on all brands of drives. Short test lasts for 5 minutes, long test takes hour or two but then you know if the drive is bad and there is no point to try fixing it anymore.

    Thanks for the reply...
Sorry for the late reply. I kept trying to install XP PRO and it finally went through (after about 5 times) and fully installed. The same day it installed, I received my HP win 7 Pro in the mail. I was going to keep XP Pro on the laptop, but when i tried to upadate the browser lanch button it required win 7 or higher.

I got everything working now. Its really a nice laptop, very thin and long battery life. Im getting (with wifi off) almost 6 hours (5:30) from only 4 cells! I love the laptop.
    Thanks for the help.
