After upgrading my 8540w with latest BIOS version (F.50) I can no longer put my computer to sleep, hibernate or shut it down, it immediately restarts (turns back on). For example, if I select Sleep from Start menu, computer goes to sleep but after 3 seconds it powers back on. Another example, I am in BIOS and I press Power button, computer turns off but after few seconds it turns back on. The only way to shut it down is either disconnect it from the mains and remove battery or hold down Power button for 5 seconds or more. I was thinking about going back to the previous BIOS version, but apparently it is not possible (there is a note that says: "After this BIOS update has been installed, previous BIOS versions cannot be reinstalled."). Event Viewer does not explain what exactly is causing this, it only says: "Wake Source: Unknown". The following commands do not provide any additional information as well: powercfg /waketimers || powercfg /lastwake .

There are no external devices connected to my computer. I have reset BIOS to default settings.

    What are my options?

Document it and contact HP support. If they don't know there's a problem they won't release a fix either.
