I have recently bought a HP ProBook 4420s with following specs:
    -Intel Core i3-370M 2.4 GHz
    -Intel HM57 chipset
    -2*2GB DDR3 1066 MHz RAM
    -300GB HDD
    -Intel HD Graphics
    -Windows 7 64bit Professional

I am getting lower graphics scores in WEI (4.2 in Aero and 4.8 in 3D) compared to other systems with almost similar configurations. In fact, the graphics scores are lower than a friends ProBook of similar make with 3GB RAM and i3-350M processor.

Of course, WEI is not reliable; so I ran 3DMARK06. I got a score of 1521. Similar configs have got considerably higher scores. One in particular seems exactly the same as mine; however, it scores 3391.

Can anybody suggest a solution? Is there some defect in the hardware. After buying a brand new laptop, I am bit disappointed that it is not functioning optimally.

EDIT: 3DMARK06 reports my processor as Intel Core i3 Mobile.

Cheers for the reply. Mine is 4GB too; I mentioned another similar laptop with 3 GB had a higher WEI scores (I have read on these forums that WEI does not mean much, though)

Also, on the futuremark site; I found similar config laptops have scores of 3k+. I don't know if its possible to fabricate scores, though.

The only way those notebooks could score 3,000+ is if they had a dedicated graphics card. 3DMark06 doesn't always read what graphics card you have correctly; even if the Futuremark site says "Intel HD graphics", they could have been using a system with switchable graphics and the program simply didn't pick up on the fact that another card was active.

Like I said though, your notebook is normal. Enjoy it. :)

I changed the graphics drivers; and both my WEI and 3DMARK06 scores increased. The present scores are 1930.

The drivers initially installed were detected and downloaded by Win 7 automatically. The current drivers were downloaded from HP website and were from an older version. Seems confusing.

Manufacturer drivers are often optimized for the specific machine, even if they're based on older versions. It's the difference between something made for the device, even if older, than something that has to be more generalized and intended for everything, even if newer.
