My nc6400 (Windows XP Professional) isn't booting. I would at least like to boot to command prompt, to copy data to another machine.

When I hold down the F8 key during the boot process, it gives a menu with the option Safe Boot to Command Prompt. When I choose that, I still get a Windows splash screen, and then it freezes. Is there another way (without a CD) to boot to command prompt?
