    Hi,
i just bought my second caddy for using a hdd instead of the dvd drive.
None of them work. When windows starts, i get a bluescreen after a few seconds.
I wonder if it´s really possible to use a hdd instead of the dvd-drive?
    Is there a bios limitation?

    Thx in advance

have you checked the BIOS? The 2nd should be "visible" in the BIOS

maybe release the caddy and put it back in because of bad contact?

Did you do a shutdown first? It may not work if your machine was in hibernation

(but I don't know if it should work or not with your computer but my guess is yes ;) )

There is nothing to see in the bios.
Yes i did a shutdown and i inserted the 2 caddys i got many times.

if it doen´t appear somehow in the bios, the hdd is not recognized by the notebook, right?

I have heard that sometimes a primary HD is not recognized in the BIOS but windows does work. However, I have an older nw8240 with a Multibay II second hard drive from HP and it was possible to see both hard disks in the BIOS as far as I remember.

are you sure you have the correct caddy? There are a few third party versions available. There are Multibay, Multibay II and newer "upgrade bay" caddies. And don't mix P-ATA with S-ATA, I think your NX9420 needs P-ATA

But I think you need Multibay II and if it fits and comes from HP and is P-ATA and it does not work there is another problem.

I also had problems the first time to get my caddy to work as I remember but I think after extraction and put it in back it worked.

And make sure your Windows does not try to boot from the new hard disk (it is maybe thinking there is a bootable CD in that slot). So check out your booting order or disable boot from upgrade bay (in BIOS)
