    Hello all,

I have a Elitebook 8560P and last night I was trying to optimize the latop because it's become a big sluggish.

As per experience, I did my usual stuff: services.msc and also MSConfig !!!

I must have switched some service that I didn't realize affected the HP ProtectTools and now when I attempt to log onto the computer initially both the biomatric and facial recognition on Windows logon do not startup giving the following error:

I do have two files on my usb drive called: DriveEncryption-HP-HP.bak - which I thought were the recovery key in the even that I can't access my password via biomtric but this key doesn't seem to work and actually looking at the name, I don't even think is the recover key - looks more like the whole drive encryption key or something ?
    "

Please, please help, I need to access all my files for work ! Is there no way for me access the BIOS or some other way of removing this function or enabling the processes to start.

I think the process that I killed may have been the McAfee encryption - I thought it was the anit-virus and didn't want it running because I already have Avast installed and thought it was installed with Adobe or some other downloads.

    The options I have are:
    1. UserName/Password (don't remember password! - which is why I always use fingerprint or facial),
    2. Fingerprint
    3. Face

I can't log in anyway - on a previous laptop with biometric, I had a similar problem but was able to log in via safeboot and remove the biomtric login and then accessed admin account without a password (or reset it to something basic) but with the elitebook I can't access safeboot or anything else. BIOS and other functions via ESC are accessible but don't seem to help since the security configuration options are disabled. !!!

Further Additions: From the ESC menu pre-bootup options: using my username I can access the BIOS and it asks me to use my fingerprint or password and if I use the fingerprint - it RECOGNIZES IT so works but upon windows logon it doesn'!

Please, if there is anyway you can help me, I would be most grateful.
I was unsure where to post this so please move it if necessary.

Is your drive encrypted? If it is not, boot from windows install disc and instead of installing choose repair computer. There you'll have chance to run system restore to a point where services were up and running :)

    Hi,

I think HP's are encrypted by default with the HP Security tool ?

I may try that....thanks for your response
