    Hi!

I'm trying to fix up a HP Compaq nc8430, that was reaching mile high temps but working. Opened it up, and cleaned it right?. But after closing it, I plug the AC in(no battery) and it enters a power on power off loop without pressing the button, even with the screen down!!. It seems to start, but that lasts two/three seconds, then turns off and back on again in an infinite loop... The same happens with the battery on (but that's irrelevant as it is completely drained and works no more).

Tried changing the CMOS battery to no results, unplugging memory, HD, and CDROM to no effects either...

Any ideas?? Could it be related to not enough thermal paste in micro and GPU?

    Thanx, guys!!

Does the lock num and caps lock lights blink? My 2530p has the same porblem (on-off infinite loop and the lights blink five times between each reboot. Called Hp technical support and is apparentlly the motherboard gone kaput. Good luck with your machine.
