So I have had an intermittent problem with my 4520s..... For a while it would get so hot on the bottom it became uncomfortable and the touchpad would become sluggish or unresponsive. some times it would shut its self off and sometimes it wouldnt. Sometimes it would kind of charge it would say 100% but only last 30 minutes... Other times it worked like a dream battery held a great charge and it was fun to work with....

Well it got bad again so I got online with HP tech support chat. They said they would send a box to ship it in for repairs.. While I was talking to tech support I turned it on to offload some data to my external hard drive and as soon as it got to bios I heard a small pop and the screen had exploded.. Big black spots and white spots, cracks and Rainbow lines... yeah for more issues...

So now its off to the repair depot...

Has anyone else had similar of different issues with the HP Probook 4520s?

So I guess Im at war with HP.... if anyone else has had problems with HP warranty service on HP Business class notebooks let me know... I have a Magnuson-Moss Lawsuit brewing and who knows maybe i can get a class action going. I love repair centers that call their customers Liars.

well, it's very very unusual for a screen to 'pop' which is why they are suspecting a drop/force on the screen.

It is standard procedure to assume this, so don't think you're being singled out.

    however.

there ARE occasions, where the tension in the screen can cause catrosphic failiure in the glass, causing it to fail. 99% of the times this occur is due to the screen being stressed in the bezel. I had a screen go on me a long time ago.. hell i think it was my NW9440 that had a screen pop like that, the bezel holding the LCD display was bent, and i closed it to take it from the office and it failed.

unfortuanately it's very hard to prove/disprove if this was the fault with your machine.

100% of the time -> Screen Cracked is end users fault, not manufacturers.

could you tell us which part of the screen (as in which area: top left/middle/etc) the crack was? when mine went in was in the bottom right side. After a long series of calls, i did get it replaced, but it took a long time, as there was no other proof the machine was dropped.

    Hope your situation improves :/

right in the middle just below the webcam is where i noticed the crack.. and it radiated down and out... there are also intersecting cracks that transect the other cracks. basically if it were end user there would be 1 set of cracks not 5 or more cracks that transect and stop other cracks

So I guess I have been bumped up to level 2 something or other.... I had filed a complaint with Executive Customer Relations and they told me i had been escalated. I guess from what he says ill probably get a replacement or upgrade. I dont want a replacement already had 1 lemon and that soured my taste for the 4520s. If they offer me a different laptop what should I hold out for? They know I have filed a complaint with the BBB and am considering a lawsuit.

well see what is on the table first.

do not upset your case manager, they are there to help you! (this is the most important thing!) don't vent at them, because the buck/resolution stops with them.

secondly, just see what they are going to offer you as a replacement. As i said, it is incredibly rare for screens to fail like this, so don't let it ruin your thoughts on a machine. I had my nw9440 screen replaced within 4 days, so just be calm.

I know it can be frustrating to be in this situation, but only flaunt the 'lawsuit' card if all else fails, because it does really annoy people.

(things are a bit different in the UK, we don't tend to cry 'lawsuit' at everything you see).

Good luck on it being fixed though.

Its more than just the screen, I sent it once for it overheat and hp said it was fine and sent it back to me, then it was still overheating and the touch pad was sluggish, HP sent me a replacement palmrest and touch pad, still overheating, then the screen exploded, sent back in HP blamed it on me, sent it back said it was fine, assemled wrong and parts missing, if i look at the motherboard i can see resistors broken or cracked and now it wont even turn on and whistles,

thats why I have a bad taste to the 4520s now... wish it was just a screen
