Any comments on this model? (I know it's out of production.) I can pick one up for about $300. I need it for rather intensive Microsoft Office work (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access...heavy user), watching movies, music, web browsing. Will be used almost entirely as a desktop, but I like the flexibility of a notebook.

It has a 7200 RPM 250 GB hard drive, 15.6-inch LED-backlit HD display (1366 x 768), Intel GMA HD Integrated Graphics, and 2GB RAM. It has a Celeron P4500 processor, unlike the newer models with i3, i5 etc.

I will have a second monitor and speakers attached.

How upgradeable is it? I know I have to remove the keyboard to upgrade RAM (annoying, but not a deal breaker for me), but is the processor upgradable? (I am not afraid to take a laptop apart...upgraded processors before).

Any comments on price / specs, or just general opinions? Thanks.

it is a nice performer at the level you request , apart from the weak graphic card for modern games it can run almost all what you need , maybe you will not like the quality of sound as it lacks bass , ram and hard drive are upgradable as you described ,but processor according to what mobo you will have.

    enjoy your deal :)

A good price for a business grad notebook. Can see the 4520s Maintenance And Service Guide which explains how to replace the CPU. The 4520s was specced up to a i7-640M (Arrandale) so you have i3/i5/i7 options to upgrade to.

The 4520s also has a expresscard slot and Intel HD graphics so consider a US$200 GTX460-768MB x1.Opt DIY ViDock to get a huge improvement in gaming performance.

Thank you Alipik, and thank you nando4.

I thought it was a good deal, but it's nice to get confirmation from people who know more about this than i do. Thanks again.
