An older unit, I know. I've just replaced the T7500 proc with a T7700. I have been watching what appears to be the core frequency auto-scaling with CPU-Z.

My question is as follows: How can the core frequency and the multiplier exceed the designated CPU frequency? Specifically, the T7700 is rated at 2.4 GHz (2400 MHz). But according to the real-time monitor in CPU-Z, the core speed scales up to almost 2600 MHz on occasion. Please see the attached screenshot and note the 2593.34 MHz value. This notebook is not OC'd ... so I'm wondering how the core frequency can jump that high. I can see it's because the multiplier increases to a factor of x 13.0, but I don't understand how it can do that without being overclocked.

    Thanks in advance.
