Can you replace the regular 1080p LCD screen in a HP EliteBook 8740w with a DreamColor LCD screen? Probably a stupid question, but just had to ask. Thanks.

yes, but not cheap. we converted 2 standard ones to DC2 at work, if you call HP you MAY get a better deal than the 1400 in the parts store

Could someone give me the part number? Is the regular LED 1080p screen a good display? I don't own a 8740w yet. I'm looking to buy one though. How does it compare to the LED 1080p panel in the Dell M6600, non-ips or RGB.

the standard display is excellent the 8740w is not 1080 it is 1200 though and is as good as any DELL RGB-LED display for one reason, same bloody panel from LG in both mfgrs plus some lenovo's

the 8740W is 1200p, and yes, it's completely possible.

You can just search for it on the parts store.

Be warned however, there is a waiting time for DC2 1200p panels.

i linked the part in my last post. seems the link does not work anymore.

so here is the part number you will have to search for. since every panel has the option for a webcam there are two possible screens for you to choose from

    with webcam : 595709-001
    without webcam: 595705-001

yep you are right klf, those part numbers are for the whole assembly.
I have not found any reference in the HP-parts catalogues or maintenance guides for the lcd-display only.

maybe it would help to call a rep at the parts store.

Part number in that link is "LP171WU8 SL B1" Googling that gives several panels for sale.

However few of them say matte and others glare type panel so some of them are clearly "compatible replacements" and not the exact same part. Better be extra careful what to get :)
