    Hi everyone,

I would like to replace the internal hard drive of my 8530w with a Samsung SSD (MMCRE28G8MXP, Lenovo OEM from a T410). The SSD is 1.8" adapted to 2.5". The disk is, however, not detected by the BIOS, though it works fine in three other devices (including the adapter).

The BIOS and SSD firmware are current and the SATA Device Mode setting in the BIOS (AHCI, IDE, RAID) has no effect. I was wondering whether there might be a tool to set the mode of the SSD or a way to access some advanced BIOS settings for the Elitebook but I couldn't find anything.

    Any other ideas?? Thanks!

I guess if it is not detected by the BIOS you have no chance. Lately someone tried a 750 GB WD without luck and I think HP only delivers 80GB SSDs for the 8730w. But maybe anybody has more knowledge and an idea... ;)

I installed today without any problems a
Drive Model: SAMSUNG SSD PB22-JS3 FDE 2.5" 128GB
    in a 8530w.
It doesn't appear in BIOS "System Information".
If the SSD doesn't show in Windows, you may need to partition it.

I managed to get the original Samsung firmware working, so basically my disk should be identically to yours now (except for the form factor). However, it is still not detected.

Are you using the current versions of SSD firmware and HP BIOS?
Does your drive appear in the BIOS hard drive diagnostics (Esc and F4 or F2 at startup)?
Any special BIOS configurations you made?

I just don't understand how it is possible that neither the BIOS nor any of the HP firmware or test tools fail to detect the disk at all. It's running perfectly fine in any other system.

    Cheers
    David

The firmware of the SSD is VBM9LD1Q. HP 8530w BIOS is F12. Nothing special set in BIOS. The SSD does not appear in BIOS System Information. A test via F4 is not possible, but the SSD works perfect.

    Thanks for the quick reply!
My built-in hard disk does not appear in BIOS System Information either. However, if I press Esc and F2 to select the System Diagnostics menu, I can press F4 to successfully perform a hard disk test. When I do the same using the SSD (replacing the built-in drive) I get an error message: "No hard disk installed".
In addition, Windows 7 setup does not detect it. But I guess I couldn't boot from it anyway as long as it's not detected in BIOS.

Are you saying that you get the same "No hard disk installed" message for the hard disk test with your SSD?

No, I don't get any error message after pressing F4. The test starts but as it works I cancelled 10% completion.
Did you try to install the SSD in an external enclosure to see if its accessable?
