Hey Elitebook users, What was the deciding factor in choosing the HP Elitebook over the Lenovo Thinkpad/Dell Precision?
-
I did originally look at the W520 and although they have some interesting options, for me, I decided to stay with the Elitebook. The docking stations are quite nice along with a few extended batteries like the BB09.
Dell: Not interested simply because they look a bit blaagghh. We've also had TWO quad core machines here in work and both are suffering from major heat issues
All in all I've gone from am ENvy 13, to the 2560p, 8460p, 6460b probook, 8460p, 8760w (3000m), 8460p again and finally 8760w (4000m). I like to change and the machines end up with staff so it's not like I'm throwing away money.
They work, are easy to repair/re-paste/de-fluff. -
Thanks for your input.

The W510 I had made a high pitch noise from the processor. They couldn't fix it, so I got a refund. It felt like a step down from my W500 anyway. Worse keyboard, thicker build, worse docking station. Nice screen though.
The Elitebook 8540W offered me a better docking station that Lenovo or Dell had, and an IPS screen. Unfortunately, it was delayed so long, I stumbled into an 8440W being sold for half price that had 3 months of use. So, I cancelled the 8540W, and used the 8440W until the 8560W came out and got the IPS screen I wanted then.
As for the Precision/Latitude...I'm using a Latitude E6420 as my work PC because I was able to get a really good deal on the outlet. But, again, not a fan of their docking stations. I really want one that has a slot for the optical drive, as I run my laptops with a pair of hard drives. -
The Lenovo W5x0 series has no numerical keypad which many including myself find very important.

And despite all the hype, the build quality of the Thinkpad line is, while very good (and, to me, more appealing aesthetically), below that of the Elitebooks.
One often made point, though, is that HP has been slower to integrate new features into their bioses and their business machines more generally. Both Dell and Lenovo have been less conservative in this respect. -

If I do purchase the 8770w, what is some must have item I should buy for the 8770w?

Did any of you ordered your elitebook on the phone?

I've also put in a couple requests to them for new hard drives and keyboards because of failures (not on my units, but ones clients have purchased), and they're always there the next business day assuming I get them contacted at a reasonable time. I really don't have any complaints on their customer service.
And yes, my EliteBook is my primary personal laptop.
Also...take a look at the Samsung 830 SSDs as well. I've found them to feel more responsive than the Crucial M4s. -

Just the standard 3/3/3 warranties they came with.
