    Hi All,

You may have come across me in getting infor on anti glare filters for game specs machines. I am now thinking of seriously going for the 8740w which I have seen for £1400 ex VAT which is a "HP Renew" offer with 3 years warranty. I will also add the 3 year Next business day onsite care pack for about £50.

The spec I have been offered is HP EliteBook 8740w WD938ET - Laptopshop.nl, except with 4GB memory. I think the details are pretty easy to understand in the table.

I will be using my laptop for :

    1) Software Development especially web apps and databases.
    2) Running Virtual Machines ie for Databases, Sharepoint etc. I will probably use upto 8gb RAM if not more in future.
    3) Video Editing using SOny Vegas which uses CUDA and Quad Core. However the i5 is not Quad Core, but I think in a laptop making do with the i5 540M instead of the i7 740 is fine.

    My main Questions are:

    1) How are folks finding this laptop? Pleased, thoughts etc.
    2) How noisy is the fan? I have seen some articles which state that the 2800M graphics card keeps the fan going.
    3) How hot does it run, especially on the lap?
    4) What is the power consumption like. With my i5 540M/nvidia 2800m config, will I get over 2hr?
    5) Does it support dreamcolor? I believe this model does.
    6) Any other thoughts that I should consider. Hopefuly with this price tag I am on the right path?

A big thank you in advance,

    Sam
