Hey smart people. I got this wizbang zbook 17 with thunderbolt ports. They are physically too narrow for the thunderbolt plug on this Lacie rugged 2gb drive. Do I need to get a docker thing or should I just forget about thunderbolts fast data transfer for my backups?

I think I shouldn't have purchased this drive just for the thunderbolt interface... I'm using it to backup the rotating disk drive and it has a rotating disk drive inside. These two hard drives will never transfer data as fast as the thunderbolt interface can go. So it also comes with a usb3 cable and I get 65MB/second using it. I'm pretty sure buying that expensive converter will not get me any faster data transfer speeds...

You're correct, that mechanical aspect will forever be your limiting factor... unless you find yourself using USB1 or 2 cords someday... Zeus forbid! I've made the same mistake in the past when in a rush and just needing a drive. Back in high school the only local store that carried these drives that were even worth sneezing at was Staples. *shudder* Still use the drive to this day but only in a pinch and my other drives already being tied up.
