    Hi everybody,
    I have an Elitebook 8560w with the Dreamcolor panel, and I noticed that the monitor has the following issues:
    a) The usual red/green tint on the left corner which from what I've read all Dreamcolor monitors have it more or less (correct me if I'm wrong).
    b) A more annoying issue which has not been discussed and I'm wondering if anyone has noticed it. Basically, if I set the desktop color to black, I momentarily see these red and green trails from the mouse cursor. The weird thing is that it happens not only when I move the cursor with a swift motion but whenever I change my focus on the screen (i.e. from left to right). As a matter of fact, it more or less happens with anything white on a black background, it is just easier to notice if I swiftly move the mouse. After a full replacement and a screen repair it is still there so I'm wondering if it is an issue with all the Dreamcolor panels. I'd also like to add that it doesn't happen on an external monitor, so it can't be a graphics card defect (right?) and it is also not in my imagination as it has been observed by others. So, has anyone come across the issue before?
    Thanks

    Just booted up the DC2 8560W to check these things..

    a) Can't say I have noticed this;
    b) Can't say I have noticed this either;
    c), which should actually be a) for the 8560W, is the GRAIN/SPARKLE!! Most annoying thing about the panel, have you not noticed this? It has been discussed here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ebook-8560w-dreamcolor-vs-non-dreamcolor.html

    Not really sure what issues a) and b) are. I tried reproducing it multiple times as per your description, nothing. And if it doesn't happen on an external monitor, :S. Maybe it's a software thing? Although I'm not sure what.

    @RedWing
    thank you for the reply, you are right about the grain but I see it as a non-issue considering...

    The color tint/cast has been discussed here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...10341-color-cast-8560w-dreamcolor-screen.html

    I figured it would be common. You have to observe the bottom left (or right) corner of the screen on a white or light-colored background to see it.

    The b) issue is what's really bothering me, I have only read about a similar problem here:

    red trails/ghosting (esp with mouse cursor) on XPS 15 L501X B+RGLED screen - Laptop Video Forum - Laptop - Dell Community

    only you have to imagine that in my case the cursor ghosting trails (faint mouse cursor images) are green and red(!). As they are not only caused by sudden movement, but also rapid eye movement (!) and only on a dark background I don't really know what to make of it. I'd like to try and set the refresh rate higher than 60hz to see if it goes away but I guess it can't be done. Could it be an issue with the graphics card (nvidia quadro 2000m), even though an external monitor has none of those issues? Could both problems be related?

    One final thing, you mentioned that you have the DC2 (30-bit) lcd. I guess it is a bit of a stretch but could it be that I have the DC1 which causes this problem and if so, how can I tell?

    Looking at the pictures on the XPS L501X thread you linked, I definitely see nothing of the sort on my 8560W.

    I don't think you've been shipped a DC1, all the panels for the 8560W are DC2 by default.

    Frankly, I would go back to HP and ask them what the hell is going on. Can the effect be captured on video or on a camera?

    I understand that you are very frustrated about your Dreamcolor display:

    a) I had the same issue as you on my machine: green and red color on the left corner, red color on the right corner.
    b) I had not seen on my machine.

    But to tell the whole story, my 8560w was already the replacement machine for another 8560w with Dreamcolor which had the ST-Factory-1 issue. This issue is already well documented on this forum and means that the display has not been calibrated at the factory.

    So my solution was to send the notebook back to HP and get my money back. I was verry sorry about this because the 8560w is a wonderful machine if it only does not have a Dreamcolor display. This displays have serious quality problems so that you must have luck if you get a good part. My solution was to take a another notebook with displayport and to connect it to a NEC PA241W monitor. I really love this display.

    @Josef182,
    I'm glad you mentioned the ST-Factory-1 issue. After reading about it here:

    8740w DreamColor missing color spaces - HP Support Forum

    I run HP Mobile display assistant, and found out that my color space options are "ST-Factory-1, ST-Factory-2, etc..." instead of "AdobeRGB, sRGB, Rec.60, Rec.708, etc...) which would mean that I have yet another issue, an uncalibrated monitor from the factory. From what I've read, that alone is enough reason to request another monitor replacement.

    @RedWing,
    Unfortunately the b) issue can't be recorded on video, I don't know why is that. Could you please run HP Mobile display assistant and tell me what your color space options are? Maybe the cause of all this is the uncalibrated screen.

    @Ryan,
    thank you for your link, this might be the source of the colour tint on the Elitebook as well.

    The irony here is that the deciding factor for me on getting this laptop was the Dreamcolor monitor (instead of going with a TN laptop and a seperate IPS monitor). On Monday I'm going back to the HP tech support and see what they tell me.
    Anyway I'm really glad I found this forum and really appreciate all your help, thanks a lot guys.

    I finally figured what the b) issue is. It is the so-called rainbow effect and It has been discussed in the 8730w and 8740w owners lounge... I wonder if it is a defect in all Dreamcolor monitors or just a few...

    Did anyone notice any brightness flickering on their DC in dark scenes for example? Like its adaptive dynamic contrast/brightness? I have described this in detail in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/660775-elitebook-8560w-dreamcolor-brightness-flickering-dark-scenes.html, if anyone can check it on their DC and reply, I'd appreciate it.

    BTW, I checked what tonik4 described for issue b), and it really does happen, although I would never have noticed it if I weren't looking for it specifically. I only managed to get a few glimpses of it while I was changing my focus on the screen and dragging mouse with enough acceleration at the same time. So it doesn't bother me at all. I didn't notice any similarities to red ghosting from mentioned Dell thread.

    I did notice grainy (although it doesn't look sparkly to me) structure of DC panel, but I really don't mind it, I can't really notice this while I'm working on my 8560w, image looks perfect to me (although I don't work with image editing, so I'm not an expert on this).

    a) Yes I have the red/green tint in the corners. The tint is quite weak on my display and it doesn't bother me too much.

    b) I have not noticed this flicker. I've noticed some flicker in some rare occasions for example when you drag a black windows on a bright background. This happens very seldom though.

    After two replacements to my 8560w dreamcolor, the tints are there. the flickering is there as well. I've had my system board replaced and my graphics card replaced. Screen issues still exist.
