    Anybody having the same issue?

The top three buttons (above the touchpad) which are meant to be customisable don't do anything on my 8760w, they do not show up in the Synaptics control panel either (only the bottom three show up).

I've tried updating to the latest Synaptics driver, no change. Also looked under the top cover to ensure everything was connected up properly, and it is. :S.

    Thanks.

    Does the pointing stick work?

I haven't yet checked with my 8560w but my old 8510w had those top buttons and pointing stick connected together.

    Thanks for the reply.

Checked again and the pointing stick wasn't working, readjusted ZIF connector on motherboard, now the pointing stick is working just fine. Buttons show up in Luxpad control panel, but don't do anything still (despite changing in the control panel).

So I readjusted the pointing stick ZIF connection (the other cable going to the touchpad cables is solid and the cable is in good condition), I noticed the silver pins on the ZIF cable for the pointer stick (whatever they're called!) are rather messed up, some are cut short like they've lost material. Anyway, tried it again and now middle click works, but the rest don't. Tried one more time, and I was back to square one, nothing works, the cable is seated securely.

So it seems my problem is the keyboard then? This is rather silly design... pointing stick cable in poor condition means trackpad buttons don't work? Interestingly, if you disconnect the trackpad buttons cable, but you have the pointing stick cable plugged in, the buttons still show up in the control panel!

You need a new ZIP cable for the top buttons or just get them as spare parts on HP parts finder site.
