    Hi Guys,

Currently looking at a machine to replace my nx9420.

I'm an analyst so basically life inside large spread spreadsheets and SQL servers so my main needs are:

    Screen Real Estate
    CPU / Memory

Looking at the 8740w as its the most direct replacement to what I have (screen size wise) but I'm thinking its lacking a bit in the CPU department. Model offered in the UK is 1.6Ghz Quad Core but coming from 2.1 dual core I'm not sure that's much of a lift especially as most of excel is not dual core compatible (esp VBA).

However the news that the 8460p has just been announced has caught my eye - but I can't find any release dates for that in the UK yet.

From various posts on this focus, I doubt you'll see this model until the end of March or beginning of April. If you can wait, then do so. As for the quad core, it will be much faster than the dual core if your software fully supports multiple threads.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a wait then to see what it brings up.

Any ideas when the 8760 is going to show its head?

Probably somewhere along the same timeline, although a bit later;May-June is my guess, although it could be delayed further. You'll lose some screen real estate with the 8760, though, most likely, as it's almost certain to be 16:9 format as opposed to 16:10 (1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200).

Thanks for the advice guys. I went for the 8740w in the end would liked to have waited and got a new sandy bridge laptop but needs must and with current laptop crashing a few times a day and lasting ~8 mins on battery power I needed to get something sorted. Regardless the 8740 is still a fantastic bit of kit.
