Hi, my parents have a HP4411s laptop with dual channel 2Gb DDR2-800.

I want to add a 1Gb DDR2-667 into the laptop and I was wondering if this would be a good idea (i.e. is the loss of dual channel and downgrade from 800 to 667 worth it)?

The HP4411s also has an ATI HD4330 GPU with 512mb dedicated memory.

    Many thanks for your help.

I can't seem to find very much about this model, but if it's like most, it will only have 2 RAM slots, which will currently be occupied with 2x 1 GB sticks. This means that replacing one of those sticks with another single 1 GB stick won't increase your memory, and in fact the change from DDR2-800 to DDR2-667 will decrease your memory performance (although chances are good you wouldn't actually notice much, if any difference... possibly a few seconds in memory intensive applications). You would need to upgrade from one of the 1 GB sticks to a 2 GB stick to get an increase in memory.
