    Hi there

It's possible there are different motherboards between versions of that notebook that were sold with a dual-core processor vs. a quad-core processor. That has historically been with the case with HP notebooks offered with both kinds of processors.
Use the HP Support site - download and install the latest BIOS update for your notebook. Then try the i7-4700MQ. If it doesn't work then, your next step is to eliminate the CPU as a variable. Ensure it works in another computer. Then you'll know for sure.

Thanks for your answer, I change the mobo for an i7 compatible, is the hightest model, with amd 2gb dedicated vga, and the i7-4700mq, was removed from an alienware, upgraded to 4940mx, then i know it works.... i will try the latest bios, if doesnt work, is there any unlocked bios for this model???

    best regards

HP BIOSes tend to be locked down and I haven't seen an unlocked one available for any of them, let alone the business line.

Well that would seem to be the only variable left - you said the i7-4700MQ CPU itself works because it was from another notebook, but doesn't work in the HP.

It's possible that HP has limited which CPUs are supported in your notebook. What I recommend to people who plan to upgrade their notebook's CPU is to only consider specific CPUs that the notebook was sold or otherwise confirmed with working by other members here.

The i7-4702MQ should work since you said you have the i7 quad-core motherboard. Intel didn't make a special CPU for HP for these notebooks which means an i7-4702MQ is an i7-4702MQ.
