    Hi,

I'm quite new to HP (Elitebook) laptops. We've got one here that the user reports showed strange behaviour of the LCD screen.

I used to support another manufacturer that provided a diagnostics boot-CD which also included diagnostics of the videochip. I see no such CD with the 6930 and 8440 (neither could I find one to download), and the built-in dagnostics don't mention the videochip or screen.

Can't readily reproduce the problem, but I imagine HP support would need to have a bit more information before they send someone (??)

most of the time problems are driver related, do you have the newest?

you can check out if the graphic card manufacturer has such tools on their web page

maybe there are so few tools to test the graphic card because if it is broken you see the problem (no picture, stripes, no resolution change possible and so on)

but what exactly does not work with your HP?

Well, while I had it under my custody it had been working fine for a couple of hours, but now it has become apparent that it is the internal LCD. External VGA is perfectly fine, but the internal screen suddenly has gone black now, shows flickering horizontal stripes from time to time... This is even before botting the OS. Time to call HP. :)

yeah, seems like the internal LCD is broken

because if any external display works fine the graphic card should be ok

how about BIOS screens? However, I had once a broken graphic card and the BIOS screens have been ok but I had stripes during and after Windows booted and only the "safe" low resolution

    maybe only some cable

if you like (and the screen is not just black ;) ) you can post a picture, too

Well, the symptom is that the backlight is active but no content shown. Not even BIOS screen.

Called HP, they will repair under warranty. Is not my laptop, btw. Business :)

First flickering, then black screen. Sounds like broken LCD cable.
Possibly the cause is written on the documents when laptop comes back from repair.
