    Hi All,

I am running VirtualBox and I am trying to set up a mulit CPU VM. I keep getting an error which is VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED. Having read some Virtual Box forums I am under the impression that it could be due to the fact that VT-x is locked or disabled in BIOS. I had a look at my BIOS setting and found that :

    Virtualization Technology was unticked
    and TXT Technology was disabled.

I am a little unsure about the meaning of the above since I am successfully running one core VMs. Perhaps if the above was enabled they would run much more quickly and the multi CPU stuff would work. This is the crux of my question. What are these settings/ Do I need them?

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Hi again,

Just been bold and rebooted with "Virtualization Technology" ticked and "TXT Technology" disabled, the latter requiring a password.

I can now run my 2 CPU VM so that is good. However I am still unsure what all this means.... So I still need enlightening !!!

I would assume that enabling VT in the BIOS would allow the VMs to utilize specific hardware for each machine. Basically, dedicating 1GB of RAM and 1 Core from your CPU to the Virtual Machine.

Now, TXT Technology simply protects you from Software Attacks through Hardware and Firmware security protocols.
