I was looking at the warranty data on my new ProBook 4430s via the support assistant and it shows the warranty started 6/18/11, is valid for a year, and that it has an end date of 7/22/12 (which is more than a year). To top it all off, I didn't receive and boot up this laptop until 7/1/11! Is the start date actually the build date and then they just give the extra time based on an estimate for how long it takes a unit to sell (on average)? This is supposed to be a new unit, not a refurb or return.

The warranty starts from your ship (or if you're a bit unlucky, your order) date.

They usually give a month extra to include the extra days from the delivery from the factory.

its standard practice, sadly, they've done it this way for years.

Prebuilt models usually have 1 to 2 months added to the build date to include transport and shelf life. Usually manufacturer/support extends this without hassle if you can show date of purchase with a receipt. At least that's how it works here :)

You can get the warranty start date amended by HP to be your invoice date, even from resellers. I did it with an 8530w I got off eBay brand new sealed. Use HP support chat, they will give you the email address you need to send your invoice too.

The 4430s i just received has the exact same start and end dates for warranty as yours. Must be automated by batch.
