Hello, I have been using Thinkpad for quite some time. I need to buy another laptop and am open to something similar to Thankpad T510.

What HP model matches T510? I also wanted to know any good coupons.

    Thanks a lot!

i don't know much about the lower end stuff, but you're looking at a probook

    http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/SubFamMatrix.asp?oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=&ProductLineId=539&FamilyId=3025&LowBaseId=33523&LowPrice=$549.00&jumpid=re_r295_psg_092310_leftnav_1/psgpromo/store&psn=notebooks_tablet_pcs/notebook_pcs

which vary greatly in price and spec.

or the elitebook 8440p or 8540

which are in the same screen size as yours.

hope this helps a little, as i don't own any of the 15" screen business notebooks

I dont know why HP does not allow me to choose the screen resolution.:-(

I notice that there is a deal going on about ENVY 14 series. But is screen size

is fixed at 1366x768. Too bad.... :( Seems a great laptop that could be for software programming too. 14.5'' is still larget for programming. But the low resolution drives me crazy. If this guy supported 1600x900, then it would be perfect!

Lenovo's 14.1'' T410 supports WXGA+ which is 1440x900.... Want to try HP, but HP seems does not want me :(

I do software coding and want a higher resolution.

Did a configuration of 8540p. It only allows max 1600x900 resolution.

Dont understand why HP does not support higher resolution.

My current T500 has 1680x1050 resolution.

    Can someone explain why?

    Thanks!

They do...but just like Lenovo limited the T non P (and T non W) models to sub (W)UXGA or 1080P, HP limits the P suffix to 900P and gives the W suffix the 1080P option.

Your T500 did not come in WUXGA. The W500 did. The T61 didn't come in WUXGA, the T61P did. There may have been some oddballs, but they were an exception rather to the rule.

I will say this: The EliteBooks have impressed me greatly. My 8710W was great, and my 8440W is even better. I would venture to say that, outside of my preference for UltraNav setups, they're way better than the new Thinkpads as far as build quality and accessories go (I miss Lenovo's Advanced Docks)...and this is coming from a long time Thinkpad owner (600E, i1300, T22, T23, X30 (3, actually), A30, X31, T40, T41, T41P, T42(14), T42P(15), T43 (14), T60(15.4), T61P (15.4), T61 (14W), W500, W510, X201)

In many areas, except the Calpella series' semi-chicklet keyboards, which imho is a step down from the Montevina Elitebooks. They look cheap. This is particularly evident when comparing the 2530P to the 2540P. I hope they correct it in the Sandy Bridge notebooks.

Thanks so much for your input esp. because you were, obviously a even-longer thinkpad user.

I am considering a T510 and I can get FHD resolution, which HP 8450 cannot offer.
I care about resolution because I do programming and often open a few windows at the same time.

Also, I did a few configuration of 8450 and 8450p, it seems the price is MUCH more expensive. See this link:

HP's Small & Medium Business Online Store

It costs over $1600. For a similar config of T510, here is what I can get via Lenovo SPP for $1150.

I got my new HP EliteBook 8440P from my company for 3 days.
    I hate it!
there is a stripe flashed on the screen 5 times till now!
    when start up, it says "Fatal error, and shutting down" for 3 times;
    the screen is so small!
    the keyboard is not standard!
there is no led showing if the AC adapter is connected or not!
    there is no USB port on the right hand side;
the two shining plastic sticks on inside of the lid!
I can't open the lid with one hand!
when I cancel the copy from DVD, it hung there for at least 1 minutes!
did I mention it's so heavy?

or a 14" Lenovo T410s or 13" Dell E4310. 12" 2540P is just as heavy as either of them. Hope HP revise their next addition putting it on a weight loss program. 12" Lenovo X201 is 2/3 it's weight. See HP 2540P vs Lenovo X201s.
