    Hi,
Long-time lurker, first time poster. My employer is offering a lightly used still under warranty Elitebook 2530p for sale at an attractive price. Only problem is -- IT wiped the hard disk completely clean, and somehow lost the HP recovery disks.

I called HP support, provided the unit's serial number, and confirmed that recovery disks are available for purchase. The rep said I could get disks for either Vista Business (which is what the COA sticker is) or Windows 7. I would love to have Windows 7, but my assumption is that since the unit has a Vista COA, Windows 7 recovery disks won't work/activate? Is this assumption correct -- or is this a cheap way to get Windows 7?

    Thanks.

Before Windows 7 was released, many laptops were sold with Vista with a free upgrade to Windows 7 once it launched. The 2530p was probably being sold during this time frame and so it might have the option to upgrade to Windows 7. But I can't be certain, I'm just guessing from memory here. But if HP is offering Win7 disks, maybe call Windows and ask them if the upgrade will be legit.
