Would you exchange a 8740w with a 8760w for free?

I have an 8740w with 16GB RAM, 740QM and FX3800. I actually bought it within the last year when the 8760w was already out because I wanted to get the last 1920x1200 screen on a decent laptop. But it has nothing but disappointed with instability.
After lots of repairs HP is offering me an exchange - unfortunately they don't have the 8740w any more. So they offer a 8760w model B2A82UT. I told them I need to think about it - I really do.

I am happy with the performance of the 8740w - so I only see a smaller screen, therefore it feels like a downsize.

    What are your thoughts?

Sounds okay in my opinion. However, I've never owned a laptop with a 1200p screen. I'm currently using a laptop with a 1080p screen which is fine for my uses.

Maybe you could try push for a more power CPU though according to passmark the dual core CPU might be not so bad.

Well if you point out to them the screen is different they will offer you some other model I am sure. Been there, done that.

I don't understand why replacing motherboard, CPU, RAM, hdd, etc. wouldn't solve your issue. Did you try after that to reinstall OS, could be a software issue.

I would say a good offer. High end dual core from Sandy Bridge can easily match a quad core from previous generation while producing less heat due to high Turbo.

I'm sure it is a software issue related to Win7. There are numerous people here that report their 8740w is crashing when going into or resuming from sleep (and I even found reports of people with other laptops not to mention several M$ hotfixes trying to address the problem). So I know a hardware "repair" isn't going to repair anything. I would totally want to keep the 8740w, but noone nowhere seems to be able and willing to resolve this bug. And I don't want an instable machine. But is the 8760w guaranteed not to have this issue. Maybe I should just try WinXP 64bit.

This is my first post on this forum, I ordered an 8760w with 32 GB RAM and a dreamcolor display and got it delivered in February this year. Already at delivery the keyboard was dented in a corner but that was replaced on site. Last week the pointer stick stopped responding and while I was on the phone with Hp support to figure out whether it was a hardware or software issue the display went black. Hp has now replaced the motherboard, the pointerstick works but the display is still black. Hp arrived arrived today with a new display which was not a dreamcolor version, despite the fact that I reminded them three times that I had a special screen... they will make a new try tomorrow.... I hope they get it right this time. I've owned 6 hp laptops before (as well as several other brands including dell-never again) but have to say that I've never encountered anything similar before, a six-month old laptop with the highest possible specs where you have to replace keyboard, motherboard and screen? my previous 8710 was built like a tank and never failed me. I am not sure what has happened with hp but next time I will definitely change brand. I think hp has become the equivalent of Audi in the world of cars, very good quality feeling when you touch them but inside they're not more than average....

I think there have been more damages that previously because of the 8760w due to the very bad packing. I hope that HP realize that this type of packaging will only make the suffer economically and hurt the HP brand. Is it the same with the 8770w?
