just checked for 8540w configurations with Quads - not available in Germany.
Seems that´s the plan for the 8560w, too.

Only chance apparently is going via a broker and getting one of the US configs with US keyboard and then replacing it with a spare part German keyboard.

    not my favorite choice...

That's bad news! How did you find out? I live in the UK and I am looking at the 8540w as well (or p if the display is not that much better on the w). Do you know how to find out which components are available here?

You need to select the HP IDS Quad 8540w Base NB PC first, then you will see the Quadcore for 8540w :)

you are right and I am dumb - picked the wrong base unit.
    My mistake. Thanks!

    EDIT:
for the 8540w I can pick either the Dual or the Quad base unit - fine.

Tried same for the 8560p (8560w not listed in Top Config yet).
    I only see these
WX788AV TC 8560p IDS QM67 DSC BaseUnit HP TopConfig
WX787AV TC 8560p IDS QM67 UMA BaseUnit HP TopConfig

both Dual base units, no quads - and not configurable "inside".

Do you have a Quad base unit for me?

No, not yet, seems that Quad Core and Full HD are not available yet for the 8560p, that's why I might as well wait for the 8560w.

I contacted HP since I was looking at this machine a month ago and a lady told me it had been delayed. I asked her when I could place an order one she told me mid-may. So I am guessing they will make it available to order in midmay but it wont be ready for delivery till June.

I saw someone said that the new DC2 is better than the old ones in 8540w and 8740w. who knows whether this situation will happen in this generation

i read that the DC displays are basically impossible to get and if you order a DC display prepare to wait months and months for your notebook

I have heard that it will be a really 10-bit screen. The 8540w is a 8-bit with something to make it seem like a 10-bit screen.

That doesn't sound too good. I am looking into the HP 8560w to replace my Lenovo T61p and wanted to get a similar FHD screen but with higher brightness and better color. Is there any other alternative you can recommend?

    Thanks.

well you can still get a FHD display on the W series except the quality is not as good as the dreamcolor display. It's still very nice. Just look at the reviews and info from the 8540w thread.
It's just the DC displays that are in short supply and we have members on here waiting for months with no end in site. Good luck

HP is horrible.. they first said early May.. then it was mid may then it was mid june . .and now its mid late june.. So its going to be July.

I might have considered the W depending on the price difference with the P series but I'm happy with my 8560p.

Well, that's exactly the reason why they do not announce their laptops officially. To prevent mass disappointment.

well it was HP that announced that the 8X60W's would be ready to order in May.

I think most companies like Apple announce a date and they stick by it. I'm just glad I didnt wait for a laptop cause I really needed one to do work on. I would have been waiting for months if i wanted the W series.

From a former HP Fanboy: HP really is the worst of all computer mfrs when it comes to both being months and months late with new models (vs. initial announcements and co-sponsored "leaks" - known as "overhanging the market and an anti trust law violation, but no one would accuse HP of having monopoly power, lol!), so one has to have a really good reason to stay loyal to them. Worse, once a new model comes out, there is just a trickle of supply and the first few months of production units are plagued with defects and no drivers.

If you're 6+ months into a new product cycle, and you can negotiate at least a 28% discount, and you truly think the HP is better than the comparable Dell or Lenovo, go for it. Otherwise, they are simply out of the running for serious business users. How 'bout that great on site service, too? :D

BTW, I don't know if this was because of my 6 emailing campaigns to every HP employee email address I could get, or because after ordering 2-3 it finally became my turn, but I did get a delivery of an 8540w with a DC2 screen last week. A very, very lucky buyer got it for a steal because I wanted HP products out of my house asap :( and anything over cost basis was worth doing. I already told the buyer he could probably sell it to others of you, so PM me and I'll connect you to him - it's still sealed in the box. But think twice, with the great new line of Dell Precisions.

It's a shame you did this, but I can understand your decision due to all issues you have had to deal with. And it's absolutely a SHAME (with capitals and in the worst sense of the word) the support is not at the same level of the product, at least in my country. I've been threatened with order cancellation of my next replacement (the 3rd!) if I insisted on either backlit keyboard compatibility or probably estimated delivery dates. Even my case manager has silenced the whole support team in order to not to say ANY word to me. That is UNACCEPTABLE.

But I will try to be fair and post my comments about the new replacement and its overall status (workmanship and technical quality).

FYI: My 8740w replacement has arrived at the Service Center and it's likely it arrives to my hands on next week. Currently it's being inspectioned by a technician.

Although I'm very very angry with HP and their "bussiness support" (the name does not justice at all), the 8740w with its DC2 screen is a dream come true for me and, hopefully, I will not have more issues for a long time.

I don't want to stir the pot or add any more rumors, but I was on the phone Thursday with my HP rep and he was expecting the possibilty of ordering the new 8560w on Monday. He did say not to expect delivery anytime soon (guessing maybe 6-8 weeks), but management has heard the complaints and want to make sure that it can be ordered during the month of May.

I have given up and will be ordering my w520 Monday, unless I can order a 8560w with DC2 for within 20% of the Lenovo.

Glad to hear your's is finally coming! I did not realized a technician inspects the post-production product. If so why do you think so many HP Elitebooks come "DOA?" In any event, I might well have put up with owning HP again if I had a great professional or even hobby-related need for the DC2, but I had ordered an Envy 14 for my son, and 4 months later an 8540w shows up. I'd long since purchased a different computer for him, and heard of too many hassles with the Elitebook workstation models to accept the possibility of many more phone calls to HP!

By the way, Sam Kramer (once a great sales rep) ended up totally blowing it for me on this fiasco, and when I gave him 3 opportunities to say why we went "radio silent" on me, he remained, well, you get the point! That was one more reason not to feel good about doing business with HP or recommending it to others.

Again, good luck and do report in.
