Hello, I am desperately looking for a laptop I can wake from hibernation by clicking on a mouse or external keyboard.

Elitebook and probook have a "wake on usb" option in the BIOS: but does it wake the laptop from hibernation (S4 state), or only from sleep (S3)?

It is really tricky as on many laptops, this option only wake from S3, whereas on desktops, it wakes from S4.

I would really appreciate if someone could have a real-life test (with DC plugged and windows configured for USB mouse/keyboard allowed to wake the computer) to give me a firm answer.

I don't think you will find on. All laptops that I have tried over the years will only wake from hibernation via the power switch. It may be different from a desktop, but for a laptop, hibernation means it is actually turned off and using no power.

Of course, after writing that, I remembered an exception. I have a HP Pavilion dv2839tx with a touch sensitive strip with various functions near the power button. If you touch the DVD option, it will turn on to open the DVD player in Windows. It also wakes from hibernation but doesn't start the player. But this laptop doesn't wake from hibernation from the keyboard or mouse.
