    Hey!

I should not have done that.. I flash BIOS -- twice and guess what ??

My roommate's laptop computer reboot during a BIOS update -- reboots while a BIOS update is being written. Yeah, it's corrupting my roommate's laptop flash bios. :(

What to do ? Yeah, it is HP Compaq 2510p. My sister gave it to my roommate.
    The error here:

It kept reboot during a BIOS error message. I cannot press F9 and F10 at all.. No matter what.

Does pressing the four arrow keys or WIN+B flash the LED lights momentarily? If so, then extract the rom.bin from the bios file, copy it to a USB floppy disk (!!), as "68MSP.bin". Press and hold either WIN+B or the four arrow keys while booting the system. That will engage emergency bios recovery and attempt to read the floppy disk for the bios file and flash it.

It must be a USB floppy disk. It cannot be a USB thumbdrive.

If you can otherwise boot to Win7 in it's current state with the initial bios error then flash an older bios version, then retry flashing the version you tried. That will was used by other 2510P owner's to eradicate that 'two pass' error.

There's also a stack of useful info for this system in the http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...52887-hp-2510p-owners-lounge.html#post4518853 .

    Hi!

I don't know and how can I tell about the four arror keys or WIN+B flash the LED lights ??

I don't have a USB floppy disk. What does it look like ? Therefore, is WD External Hard Drive okay ? And where can I get 68MSP.bin ?

I am very new to this. Please be gentle with me, thanks. :)

    1. Buy a USB floppy drive and 1.44" floppy disk from somewhere. Attach to some working Windows system. Format the floppy disk. No, a USB external HDD or thumbdrive will not work. It must be a USB floppy drive.

    2. Open the 2510P bios that you downloaded. It will contain a ROM.CAB. Open that file using Winrar. In it will be a ROM.BIN. COPY ROM.BIN as 68MSP.bin onto your floppy disk.

    3. Attach the USB floppy drive with the floppy disk to your 2510P. Press and hold either WIN+B or the four arrow keys when you power up. If your system is still somewhat functional then it will flash the LED lights and start reading the floppy disk. Allow it to do that for several minutes. It's performing a boot block bios recovery. It will shutdown automatically when done.

    4. Restart system and hopefully it boots to Windows.

Worst case scenario, your bios is screwed. The 2510P has a socketted bios chip in the 1.8" drive bay. You could get another 2510P's bios chip and ask an electronics repair place to make a copy of it and you could fit the replacement bios chip yourself.

If it's all too complicated then suggest sell the 2510P on ebay as a parts machine and let someone else repair it.

    Okay... two questions:

    HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (68MSP) - Windows-based -- F.30 7 Dec 2011

ROM Image for HP Notebook System BIOS (68MSP) Remote ROM Flash - SSM Compliant -- F.0F System Software 6 Jul 2010

    OR

ROMPaq for HP Notebook System BIOS (68MSP) - FreeDOS Bootable Media -- F.0F 6 Jul 2010

    Also:

Is this USB External 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive?

What about just 1.44 MB Floppy disk ? This laptop have 1.44 MB Floppy DISK DRIVE already.

Please answer it and that is all I want to know. Please ? Thanks.

    1. You can choose the FreeDOS or Windows bios image. Important point is to find/extract rom.bin from it and copy it as 68MSP.bin onto the 1.44MB floppy disk.

    2. A 2510P is not usually shipped with a 1.44MB floppy drive. It comes with a 1.8" ZIF SSD or HDD in 60GB, 64GB, 80GB or 120GB capacity and an optical drive. So you'd need the USB 1.44MB floppy drive you've linked above to be able to do emergency bios recovery.

    1. I downloaded the FreeDOS as sp49696.exe and installed. Now, I got the message:

    2. I see them as:

    FreeDos folder
    ISO folder
    Rompaq
    CD in Internet Explorer icon
    FirmwareUpdate
    HPUSBFW
    Kernels
    rom

Is this "rom" look like a floppy disk icon ? So I rename it to 68MSP.bin??

And the message ask this question:

    Bootable Diskette
    Bootable CD
    Bootable USB Key
    Exit

Can I burn rom.iso with CD instead of 1.44MB Floppy disk ? All I have to do is rename it to 68MSP.iso? Thanks.

Thanks for the replying... Sorry about that. Okay, I am using my other desktop PC right now to this forum. Not this laptop since you understand that this laptop doesnt work anymore. Read the page 1 at the beginning of the error message is what I am getting on this laptop which reboot back and forth every time with the same error. I can't do anything. It didnt go to Windows 7 at all. Just reboot back and forth with an errors every time.

Do you think that a USB diskette drive, copy the 68MPS.bin will definitely work ?

If your system boots and gives the flash eeprom error on the LCD then the bios bootblock is intact and the emergency bios recovery procedure will work.

If you don't want to buy a floppy USB drive BUT have access to another working 2510P then you could boot it up, carefully hotswap the bios chip in the 1.8" drive bay (ensure it goes in the same way if you reverse it then goodbye bios chip), then re-run your bios flash, swap out the bios chip and install it in your system. Can get another working 2510P without HDD on ebay for very low $$.

    Hi everybody.
I have a HP 2510p which had a similar bios problem. The problem arised after I tried to load the bios sp55558.exe.
First I tried to fix it with telephone help from HP, with no result.
After that, I took the laptop to the local HP repair center.
They said that the problem was with the mother board and they asked around 1000 Euro to change it!!!
Of cource I did not agreed and I took it back.
After all these steps, I followed your instructions.
I found a floppy, I copied the bios file from sp49696, etc.
    Now the laptop seems ok.
    Thank you very much.
