Am I doing something wrong when turning on an hp 2530p? I press the "power" (on) button and a get a grey screen, so I have to press it to turn it off, then press it again and then it goes into windows...

Try setting your bios to defaults and try again. It should bootup to Windows7 on first press of the power (on) button.

Does it go to a gray screen immediately after you turn it on? If that's the case, you may have a serious hardware failure. Have you tried turning it on with an external monitor connected and the lid closed?

Yes, it goes to a gray screen immediately after turning on. This has been happening for 8 months now and I haven't been able to fix it.

I went into the BIOS and restored to system defaults but this has not fixed the problem. It still goes into a grey screen on every other boot requiring me to turn it off and on again to get into windows xp.
