    upgrading 8530w cpu from core2duo P8600 to X9100?

    is it possible?

    I have an EliteBook 8530w with 2.4 GHz core2duo P8600 atm and would like to upgrade it to a X9100 if possible.

    The 8530 Maintenance manual shows 3 motherboards for the 8530w.

    For use in HP EliteBook 8530w models with Intel Core2 Quad-Core processors 500906-001
    For use in HP EliteBook 8530w models with Intel Core2 Extreme Dual-Core processors 500905-001
    For use in HP EliteBook 8530p and 8530w models with Intel Core2 Duo processors 500907-001

    I assume I have part number 500907-001.
    Will a X9100 work in this motherboard?

    Yes it would if it was a factory option. Just make sure your BIOS is up to date.

    My BIOS is the newest available.
    What do you mean with "factory option"?
    The installed P8600 is a C2D, same as X9100 but not an extreme one.
    I'm uncertain as there seems to exist a special motherboard for the extreme CPUs.
    Following I found in the 8530 maintenance manual:
    "For use in HP EliteBook 8530w models with Intel Core2 Extreme Dual-Core processors 500905-001"
