I've gotten that myself, not sure if it's related to overclocking or not since I've had it happen overclocked and not. It may be CPU related or something. I can't tell for sure, and it's not repeatable enough for me to narrow anything down.

Hi all, first of all, thanks to justinkw1 for keeping this thread updated, it is excellent.

I am having a problem and hopefully someone can help me with it. When I attempt to install the HP Wireless Assistant v3.50.12.1 on my Envy 15 2nd Gen, I get this error:

"This version of HP Wireless Assistant is not supported on this model. Please download and install the correct version from www.hp.com"

I haven't reformatted my laptop, it is using the default programs that came with it, minus the Cyberlink stuff, and I have updated the BIOS to version f.2. Any info as to why or how I can fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I have even tried removing the current driver, Version 3.50.11.2, and it also gives me the same error! There's got to be something wrong here

I am contacting HP Support right now to see what they can do (benefits of Twitter) and reporting this. It has happened to me with 535MHz engine and 945MHz memory clock, and with stock 400 and 700 respectively. The GPU running at almost 80C, so is the CPU, and games suddenly crash and close. Very strange. Once I get a reply from HP I will post back.

On a related note, BIOS F02.A seems to lock down the CPU to x10 multiplier only? Just run wPrime and I got 20 seconds instead of my 16 seconds normally, and RealTemp was reporting x10 only instead of the normal x12, and even when one core was being stressed (instead of all four) I could go further than 1333MHz, is this happening to all of you?

    Thanks for the reply!

Mine's not locked at x10. It seems to be a floor though. I just saw mine pop up over 3GHz for a second just starting up Furmark's program, and then drop back to x10 (watching with CPUz)

New Broadcom WLAN drivers from Acer, and updated links for the current IDT HD Audio driver. As an aside, this updated audio package now conveniently includes Windows XP support if you're still using it. :)

Tried installing on my Envy 15 (2nd Gen) - It gives me an error saying that my system doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for this update.

The readme states that this is for the Envy 14, so I don't think it's compatible with the 15's.

If anyone succeeds installing this driver then please post.

    Thanks

    • Added Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver version 1.2.0.1002.

Certain Envy 15 notebooks may be able to use the Turbo Boost Technology driver, while some may not be able to.

Here is another link that is the same version but specifically documents that it supports the Envy 15. All the packages should be the same (including the one on the first post), but I encourage you to share your experiences on this one.

I have an Envy 15 and I can't install the Intel Turbo Boost Technology drivers. It keeps telling me "This computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software." There is no fix? I have the Envy 15t-1100 CTO model.

If you guys have a CTO model, that means we have no clue what the specs are. What are the components of your machine? How much RAM, which hard drive(s), what CPU, what screen. Those are the major ones.

Hi justinkw1, it seems there's a problem with the Wireless Assistant 4.0.7.0. It doesn't show any wireless device in its properties window, and it doesn't respond to the wireless enable button. I can disable the wireless but it doesn't re-enable, it seems like it is not responding. I don't know if everyone else is having this same problem, or if you have a suggestion for me to get it to install properly. Thanks again!

Hmmm, strange -- make sure that the wireless network connections are enabled in the Control Panel. I don't use HP Wireless Assistant so my advice is rather limited in this area.

Have you tried installing a previous version of the HP Wireless Assistant and see if the issues are fixed?

Seems reasonable. It seems only people with the i7 versions are having issues installing the driver, because my i5 installed it fine.

Thanks everyone for the input, it looks like the Turbo Boost Technology driver only works on Core i5 notebooks. I'll amend the driver threads so that they note this.

The Core i3 does not use TBT, while the Core i7 notebooks may be implementing TBT on more of a hardware level.

Yes, TB driver only applies to i5 cpus with IGP, not i7 on which it is hardware managed.
For i5 owners, the latest driver is included in the intel graphics driver.

Envy 15's don't use the IGP so we don't use the intel graphics driver. Just the discreet 5830 ATI GPU and ATI catalyst drivers apply for the envy 15......

NEC USB 3.0 Host Controller driver 2.0.4.0 for Windows 7 x86/x64 can be found @ Asus site. Not sure if this is compatible with HP. Contains 3.0.2.5 firmware. Unzip the file, and in an elevated command prompt run "FWupdateXX.bat" to flash. Replace XX with 32 or 64.

Saw this on the ASUS support FTP as well, but I don't think this works with the USB 3.0 controllers here. I'll probably hold off until HP releases something otherwise.

A great discovery by Texanman means that the Atheros AR8131 Ethernet drivers will no longer ever be out of date! :) These are official drivers linked directly from Atheros.

    08/29/2010
    • Updated Atheros AR8131 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver to version 1.0.0.44 for Windows Vista and version 1.0.0.34 for Windows 7.

One downside with the new drivers is that they are in the .RAR compressed format. So, make sure that when downloading that its extension is in this format. Additionally, you'll need a program that can extract .RAR files -- examples include WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. I personally recommend 7-Zip since its free and pretty lightweight.

I just updated to the latest bios (F2.A) and the latest ATI drivers, I now have a problem where if I wake my computer from sleep the screen will be blank unless I close and open the lid. The computer itself is working, but it seems like the LCD thinks that the lid is closed the moment the computer wakes and is supposed to show the log in screen.

This only happens on the newest ATI display driver (not related to the catalyst control center). I would keep using the old ATI driver if it weren't for the fact that it's been blue screening every once in a while and the fix was to update the bios and install the newest driver.

    Thanks for the help.

Have you tried the older driver with the new BIOS? I believe the problem was the combination of the pre-F2.A firmware and the Catalyst drivers, so breaking that combination in any way may still fix it. Or it could be that your issue is simply caused by the new BIOS and Catalyst is a red herring.

Thanks for the reply, it's not the new bios. This happened the first time I updated to the newer display drivers. At the time I simply reverted back to the older drivers since I didn't seem to have a problem with it at the time.

When I woke my computer this morning though, it didn't black screen. Which was odd. I'm going see if it stopped doing it, if not I'll try the old display drivers and see if it fixes anything.

EDIT: Still black screens when waking from sleep. I guess I'll uninstall the display driver and reinstall using the older one.

Haven't noticed anything significant. I don't normally benchmark those things, or keep an eye on wattage. But runtime on battery is definitely no worse than it's ever been. It actually seems like I've been getting much better battery life on airplanes than I have in the past for no reason I can put my finger on.

    FYI:

    New Intel RST driver has been found, v. 9.6.5.1001 WHQL. It lists the envy 15 RAID controller ICH8M-E/ICH9-E/5 series. This comes from a french website in the link below;

    intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci

Have not tried the download but some on THIS thread have updated it (non envy's) with no issues. I do not see it anywhere on intels site...

Finally had the chance out of my busy schedule to update the first post. Remember, MediaSmart is optional and installation may take a while. :)

    09/06/2010
    • Updated Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth driver package to version 6.3.0.6300 (thanks Z3tor).

    09/14/2010
    • Updated MediaSmart DVD for Windows 7 to version 4.1.4229 (4.1 C1).
    • Updated MediaSmart Photo for Windows 7 to version 4.1.4319 (4.1 C1).
    • Updated MediaSmart Live TV for Windows 7 to version 3.1.3003 (3.1 C3).
    • Updated MediaSmart SmartMenu for Windows 7 to version 3.1.1.12 (3.2 B1).

All right JJB, this driver isn't being hosted from an official source (Station-Drivers doesn't count), and so I'll leave this off the first post until a more official release comes along.

The package you referenced is actually not the right one -- it's not compatible with the AR8131 from looking at the INF file.

However, there is a driver update to the Atheros AR8131 which has been released in a different package (located above the one that you mentioned). The first post has been updated with the correct package.

    • Updated Atheros AR8131 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver to version 1.0.0.45 for Windows Vista and version 1.0.0.35 for Windows 7.

The Synaptics driver listed on the first page of this thread (15.0.24.0) has a major problem. If you install this driver, it disables Tap Zones, so there is no possible way to select a tap zone for right click. This is a deal breaker for me because the physical buttons on the Envy 15 touchpad are too unwieldy and I need to be able to tap to right-click instead of pressing the button with my thumb.

In order to be able to tap for right-click I had to go back to Synaptics driver

Tap zone options are still there there just not loaded by default for some reason. You need to open device manager > Mice > Synaptics > Driver > Update Driver > Browse... > Let me pick from list > Select the next one down in list (same driver version) > Next. Now reboot and go to synaptics settings and you should have all the Tap Zone options again in the new driver.

There are actually 3 (or more) different driver versions installed with each new update and for some reason the newer ones have not been loading the one with Tap Zones by default.

Having issues with the new wireless and lan drivers... When I come out of hibernation neither device will seem to work. Windows trouble shooter says that both devices have driver issues preventing them from working...anyone have any insight

So far, I have not experienced this problem as of yet. I'm assuming that you're using the 6200 AGN adapter?

Also for everyone, I'm thinking about separating HP MediaSmart, Wireless Assistant, and other popular HP software (NOT drivers though) into their own, separate thread. That way, I only have to update once and keep everything that is optional (and even potentially bloat material) on its own. Opinions?

Sounds good to me since I don't use any of the HP software.

I would suggest that you leave the page 1 listings for those items and just put in a link that says 'clcik here to check for new updates' or something to that extent... That way anyone who misses your changover will still find your new thread....

I had the same problem. I reinstalled the older Intel wireless and Atheros lan drivers from HP's site and it seems fine now.
