@Bigcat400
AnXioZ appears to have an i5 520M so unfortunately the i5 only idea does not seem to be the problem....

I just flash and all went well. It been running for the past 6 hours w/o any issue so far.
Went from F19A to F1BA. -
I just got my Envy about a week ago. My version Bios was F1.8 A (shipped with it) and I experienced freezes already 4-5 times daily where nothing goes anymore. I also saw some brighness issues where the screen would just randomly change up and down. Today I flashed to F1.B A and I hope that will at least fix the freezing (=total hang but no blue screen!)
Due to the REALLY fast drives in RAID setup (HP factory setup) shutting down the laptop and booting is not an issue. I guess I'll be reading the posts here and see if there is others with the same issues and then with solutions.
HP Envy 15 / Core i7 Q 820 / 16 GB RAM / 2x SSD (160GB+160GB) as RAID / Windows 7 (x64) Professional -
2.) Find 'Adaptive Brightness', right click it and goto properties.
3.) In StartUp type selected 'Disabled' than click Stop.
4.) Press OK
No more brightness changes -
The changing brightness is the stupid auto light sensor near the webcam, it's called 'adaptive brightness'. To disable it: click the battery icon > more power options > change plan settings > change advanced plan settings > scroll down and click '+' display > click '+' enable adaptive brightness > choose 'off' for both battery and plugged in.
Now repeat the same procedure for the other 2 power plan choices....
@bshaun
Well your way is quicker, you can also just disable it from the system configuration by just disabling it in the startup menu. But with the above way he could selectively use the feature if he chooses for a specific plan. But it is a pain in the rear to do it 6 times...... -
Cool
...and done. I like the fact that I don't have to reinvent the wheel
My use for this laptop is actually not for gaming but rather to run VM's (multiple in parallel) and only with the rise of SSD's and multicore Systems I can run my VM's fairly decent. My last Laptop wasn't a slouch either ( Core2Duo @ 2.53GHz / 4 GB RAM / 2x 320GB Seagate Drives in RAID / Win XP x32 Professional) but every mouse move would take a second delay with only one VM running. I run 3 in parallel!! Not enough RAM in the old machine and just not fast enough on HDD I/O. MIPs wise it was probably ok.
If I run into more issues that are noteworthy I will post them.
...And for that Gentleman that was trying to get the BIOS fixed, some newer BIOS's maybe compressed AND encrypted (though often times not supported or even used by MB vendors) and the FLASH routines are usually written in a way that will ONLY work for a particular mainboard. So trying to find a pattern or making it work "somehow" may not be possible. If this is the case for the Envy15 MB I can't say, but the capabilities exist in the support chipsets. Chipsets usually have undocumented functions (reserved functions) that are not available for public use. I am making a "qualified guess" here. -
... and the laptop gets really hot too without the fans kicking in. I wonder if the new BIOS will work a little better than the old one. Luckily I have the 9-cell battery attached which keeps my "Lap" relatively cool. But it doesn't resolve the underlying problem that this machine generates a lot of heat. But since updating my BIOS 2.5 hours back I have not had a hang which is good.

@meerbusch
This thread is supposed to be for specific driver issues only.
There are 2 very good HP Envy owners threads that are better suited to the general issues etc.
This is the 'Gen 2' Envy thread which in theory is for the i5 CPU models : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=6127020&posted=1#post6127020
And this one is, again in theory, for the i7 models: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=455493&page=233
They both are very active and have become very mixed so the CPU type really doesn't seem to matter much. The links go to the most recent pages but there is a lot of good info on the opening pages also.
One last link for 'benchmarks' on the envy is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=6102048#post6102048 -

Strags just posted new Catalyst 10.6 alpha. Anyone one willing to take the plunge?

Important: A new BIOS update has been released for all current versions of the Envy 15. It has been released two days before the originally planned effective date (April 16). It is recommended that you update to this new release -- please read the Important Information section pertaining to BIOS releases if you haven't done so already.

- Updated BIOS to version F.24 A.
-
Thanks. Same enhancement like F1BA
-
Updated to the new BIOS with no problems at all.

Not going to bother with F. 24 A. I lost in faith with HP's support and drivers. I am stick with F. 18 until I either sell the Envy or further notice with their case management.
-
i updated reluctantly (last bios update disabled my screen, had to reinstall the original bios to fix it), and was pleasantly surprised to find my notebook running a good bit cooler. its worth the download going from 18 to 24
-
Anyone with an i5 CPU update to F .24 yet ??? Any issues?
-
I just updated to the F1B BIOS a couple of days ago. This is getting crazy.
-
MAN! I just bricked my Envy trying to flash to the latest BIOS. I have a i5 2nd Gen.
I need stuff that's on the HD before I send it back to HP. Will it void the warranty if I open up the computer to access the HD? -

EDIT: Was it the F. 24 A or was your flashing F. 1B A? I am still hesitant to upgrade over many reasons right now. Not happy with the Envy at the moment. -
They have a new "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver" up but I couldn't get it to install on my computer. Something about the wrong bios or wrong minimum settings or such.

Maybe it alleviates the locked processors performance/battery issues. -

Updates to the first post:
04/15/2010
- Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.16.1.
- Updated MediaSmart Live TV to version 3.1.2508 (3.1 C1).
On a side note, HP has released BIOS updates for the Envy 15 left and right -- there have been five BIOS releases in less than two months! And it seems that there is always some users with issues for each release. -
CAUTION: I installed the new intel "Turbo boost tech" driver from HP and now my Envy seems to lock up (black screen) instead of going into sleep mode. Had to do the old push and hold the power button twice now. This machine has never had this isssue before. Will advise if it continues to be an issue. BTW using the F 1B A BIOS which was working fine before this update.
Update: The computer is now acting normally and gioing into sleep mode as beforesince all that had changed was the turbo driver I do not know what else could have caused the problem. BTW I had it lock up on me a total of 5 times last night before giving up.... Today all is good so far...

I got my machine back today from HP, after bricking it while flashing the previous bios (I see there is a new one now). Overall, very satisfied, sent it Monday, got it back today (Thursday). Very fast, IMO. Their notes indicate they replaced the system board and thermal pad. OS boots normally, all my stuff is in there.
Machine came again with F18 BIOS, and that's where I am staying, at least for now. There are some issues with their latest flashers. -

Just thought that I should inform everyone that the latest BIOS (Released yesterday I think?) bricked my ENVY 15 with the i5 430M as well so it may be a good idea to avoid it unless you deem it necessary!
-
The latest bios did not brick my envy 15 with i7.
-
Those with i5's may want to wait until HP releases a more stable BIOS, which probably won't be long given how quickly HP has been releasing them. -
Damn, they didn't fix the disable/enable feature on the touchpad in the new driver. I still can't re-enable my touchpad after disabling it.
-
-
-
I had to revert to the earlier driver version, because the click-and-drag feature that all trackpads can do, now really is messed up. The buttons somehow does not detect you pressing down on the pad, the second another finger touches the touchpad.
Hope it works better for the rest of you guys. -
Can anyone tell me what updates of driver or BIOS can REALLY fix the problem of horizontal lines on screen???
-
It won't install on my i7 either... But the diver is listed at HP under my model 15-1190eo. -
Hello,
I Loaded the latest HP Integrated Bluetooth latest driver on the site because of intermittent loss of Bluetooth connectivity with mouse. The installation went fine, and seems to be working better. Unfortunately, I am now getting a BTballoon.dll not found error in taskbar when I log in . The icon is there and working but an annoyance of a message.
I have an HP envy 15 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit.
Any recommendation and help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

All - I am having problems projecting to certain projection systems which have a PC monitor included with it. I am using an HP HDMI to VGA adaptor. The display on the monitor attached to the system is working like a charm, but when it pojects to the screen it appears has a rainbow or distorted with very light colors.
I lowered the resolution and played with Calibration. It did not fix the problem.
The HP Envy 15 has an ATI Mobility 4830 Video card.
Is there an option I should be configuring in the ATI CCC Advanced to make sure the display on certain projection system is correct and not distorted.
It works fine on many projectors, it is just a few of the integrated computer/systems at one of the Microsoft office that I am having problems with.
I have checked in the device driver and all drivers are up to date.
Thanks very much for your help.

is anyone else having issues with the newest bios update? I updated and now my GPU fan is almost always on, and I switched off the always on setting in the bios.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can re-download/install Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 after a fresh W7 install?
It has fairly good reviews on Amazon and was just curious if it was any good -

Question: the 10.3 mobility driver from ATI... does it include the HDMI audio driver? It was not shown by the ATI installer. Previous installers did show it.
