    • Updated Intel Rapid Storage Technology to version 11.0.0.1032 (thanks ricktendo64).
    • Updated the download links to BIOS for ENVY 17-3XXX.

The old and new links point to the same BIOS release, version F.05. They are exactly the same to my knowledge, aside from the Softpaq number.

F.06 came out already for ENVY 15. Rapid Storage link is that correct for laptops? The Intel site says it is for desktop only right now?

    • Updated BIOS for ENVY 15-3XXX to version F.06.

    Release Notes:

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology package will also work correctly on these laptops, even though it was documented for certain desktop motherboards.

Has anyone else tried updating to the new USB 3.0 drivers?

I am finding that after running the install it hasn't really updated the drivers when looking in the Device Manager. It is still on the same version of the drivers before the install. Yes, I restarted my machine.

Oops - it's because these USB 3.0 drivers are for controllers that are not present in these notebooks. I just removed the driver from the first post.

I've had my ENVY 15-3040NR for about a week and the touchpad is my biggest remaining complaint after getting the F.07 BIOS that fixed 98% of the keyboard issues.

After glancing at the release notes for the 3 Synaptics drivers posted near the beginning of this thread, I noticed that NONE of them apply to our specific 15-3xxx of 17-3xxx model(s) of laptops. Is this device driver generic enough that it supports all of the different sizes, gesture commands, and other features unique to our laptops?

Could someone that loaded one of these clickpad drivers please comment on the improvements to palm rejection, multi-touch, sensitivity, and which version you finally settled on?

    Thanks, Marco

I installed Synaptics TouchPad / ClickPad driver, version 15.3.36.0 on My Envy15-3XXX and it works fine! Infact I noticed that now two finger scrolling and pinch and zoom are smooth!
I see the cursor jump around in very rare occasions.

    • Updated Intel Chipset Device Software, version 9.3.0.1020.
    • Updated Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and software, version 11.1.0.1006.
    • Updated Intel WiFi Link driver, version 15.1.0.18 for Windows 7.

You do not have to install this Intel Chipset Device Software package if you have already applied a previously released v9.3.X.XXXX package.

As some of you may know, mainstream support for Windows Vista ended on 4/10. As a result, I have decided that all future releases posted will mention support for Windows 7 but not for Vista; I will be phasing out support for Vista as I continue to post updates. Driver releases specific to Windows Vista will continue to remain however, for as long as they are current.

I will start adding Windows 8 support to many of the drivers here, especially as the final version gets closer. The Release Candidate phase will undoubtedly be a great time to update these posts, and to prepare for those of you wanting to run Windows 8 on a full-time basis. :)

Too big to lug around? Idk how everyone complains about carrying around a 17" laptop. My first laptop was a 17" and i never had any gripe carrying it around even without a bag. Sounds like you need a 14 or 15" then. /rant.

Hey everyone, been lurking a while but I must say that I'm quite impressed with the community here and with the Envy 15-3040nr in its entirety.

OP, thanks for posting the updated drivers and such. I've a question about the BIOS as I've looked around and haven't found any discussions so could you explain why it was removed? Should I revert back to F.07? While I'm mentioning the BIOS, I'd like to find out if there are any advanced features that can be accessed or even a way to modify the BIOS to access them.

I had issue with the latest IDT Audio drivers as well - particularly 6.10.6393.0 which would allow me to playback audio through the headphones, but not the speakers.
I've not had issue with 6.10.6388.0 though - so far so great!

I also understand that the ATI drivers can be installed ontop of the HP drivers which is cool if we want to stay up to date and while I've ATI driver version 8.882.2.3000 installed I haven't been able to get them updated the latest 12.4 drivers.

Edit: Anyone looking to install ATI 12.4 drivers can get the installation package here: http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe
I installed the HP driver package (sp54916) and then installed 12.4 afterwards and everything works well now.

    Cheers

Edit #2: Did some speed tests on 12.4 and I have to say that it was painfully slow. I deleted the device driver from device manager, installed the HP drivers and rebooted before installing 12.3 and performance looks to have stabilized. Both drivers indicated the card as being a 6700 and the clocks haven't changed from the stock 600/800

If anyone is interested, here's the link to 12.3 from ATIs website: http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

    • Removed IDT High Definition Audio driver, version 6.10.6393.0.

Some users (including myself) have been experiencing issues with 6.10.6393.0, so I'm taking that off for now. I had to uninstall this driver in Safe Mode, and install 6.10.6388.0 once I restarted.

    04/29/2012
    • Added AMD Radeon HD Graphics, Catalyst Mobility 12.4 reference drivers - version 8.961 (AMD) / 7.12.0.7706 (HDMI Audio).
    • Updated HP Quick Launch Software, version 2.7.2 (2.70 A2).

I do not currently know the reason as to why HP had removed F.08. If you are not having any issues with F.08, you should continue to use it.

Also, it's currently difficult (if not impossible) to modify the HP notebook BIOS so that you can gain access to the more advanced features. For now, you will probably have to resort to what the current BIOS options provide.

First of all thanks for the very helpful information on this forum posting.

I just installed the 12.4 Catalyst drivers over the top of the HP certified drivers. Install completed with warnings but didn't tell me what the warning was for in logs. Restarted and Catalyst UI will not load.

I'll try using driver sweeper and stripping both back of the system and reinstall again.

Anyone else having issues opening UI after 12.4 install?

Thanks. I'm not aware of any issues with F.08 and things have generally been pretty solid. I'd heard of bios-mods.com but there isn't any activity there with regards to the 3000 series. This is fine for me as I'm not too interested in breaking any ground with regards to using a modified bios let alone bricking my machine. I have heard that other models of the Envy line have an advanced bios mode that can be accessed by using the key combo (F10 + A) but this hasn't worked for me. If anyone can shed some light on any of these aspects of the bios that would be awesome.

I had performance issues both in Furmark and with games running 12.4 so I didn't do any further testing. I reverted to 12.3 and haven't had problems.
Please post any successes or failures with regards to the ATI drivers.

    Cheers

I've tested on the 15-3040nr and this should do the trick: http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe
This worked for me: install a fresh instance of the HP video driver, reboot, and install the ATI driver.
Again if you test both 12.3 and 12.4, let us know if you have any issues or see any differences.
    Thanks

The catalyst UI won't open after installing 12.4. Install completes successfully but no dice on UI.

Uninstalled 12.4, drivesweeper for cleaning, msi cleanup and checked GAC for any leftover assembly files.

Then installed HP provided drivers again, then 12.3. Same issue. No Catalyst UI will appear. Install completes but no UI.

Uninstalled again and cleaned the system. Also now uninstalled .NET 4 and reinstalled. Applied patches. Reinstalled HP provided drivers. Now UI doesn't show up for their version as well.

As best as I can tell there is something wrong with the relationship between .NET libraries and repeated Catalyst UI installs. There's plenty of information online about removing two specific GAC but I'm not seeing those.

No windows events are being recorded given the drivers are actually loading. Just the UI won't ever open.

Next step. Restoring OS to original factory spec and trying to load 12.4 directly after HP provided drivers. Unless ya'll have any other ideas....

When you say the UI doesn't show up, you're referring to the Catalyst Control Center? Let us know what happens when you try to launch this executable: C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\CCC.exe
Are there any messages that appear in the Windows Application Event logs during or after installation or even when launching the 'CCC.exe' ?

Unfortunately there were no warnings or errors in any of the events, both application and system were checked.

Running CCC manually didn't yield any results. Simply got a spinning cursor for 5 seconds and nothing further.

I went ahead and did a rebuild on the unit. Rebuilt in the following order with 12.4 drivers. Made a backup using acronis before installing any ATI drivers as a precaution. All is well now. Needed to get the system back up and running. Initial tests with 12.4 are good. I'll post tomorrow after having a bit more time with it.

    Install order:
    - Windows 7 Enterprise
    - Windows 7 SP1
    - USB 3.0
    - Intel Chipset
    - Intel Rapid Storage
    - Atheros LAN
    - Intel Wireless
    - HP Quicklaunch
    - HP Proximity Sensor
    - HP 3D Drive Guard
    - Broadcom Bluetooth
    - IDT Audio
    - Windows Updates
    - Realtek Card Reader
    - Synaptics Touchpad
    - Windows Updates (Including .NET 3.5 patch and 4.0)
    - Intel Smart Connect
    - Acronis True Home Image 2011
    - Backup created prior to AMD driver install
    - Disabled Superfetch and Disk Defrag
    - AMD Mobility Drivers - HP (Express Setup)
    * Reboot
    - AMD Mobility Drivers - 12.4
    * Reboot

To the author the thread. There are lastest 12.4 drivers prepacked for better stability. They are original drivers updated to lastest version. It's 100% compatible because I tested them out.

Catalyst 12.x Apr18 UnifL for Hybrid Graphics

You can try it and if it working OK put it on drivers list as working alternative.

i installed the latest chipset driver for my envy 17 3000...it installed corretly but overwrote the intel RST driver on my controller...so i tried to then install the latest RST driver using the setup program and the inf method and got errors every time....so i went to the HP website and loaded the latest official HP driver package for the chipset, then loaded the latest official HP intel RST driver package and now everything is fine again and they loaded correctly, although the HP version is a downgrade of the chipset driver....should i try something else? or should i leave it as is with the latest HP packages from their website?

ok after doing a dj show this weekend found an issue with the new idt driver after a few minutes the sound gets distorted. volume increases and decreases randomly. Then it goes back to normal. not sure if anyone else is having these issues, but im going back to the previous driver which seems the best so far.

I noticed that the latest chipset driver version isn't reflected in Device Manager. I went to the Intel website and did the automatic driver detection which says I'm running the latest version. Strange to say the least.

Beats Audio has the option for Noise Reduction; I have no way of testing its' functionality however you may have discovered that it does in fact work very well!

    Cheers

Can anyone advise how to get back the Intel my wifi utility in the new 15.1 proset wireless drivers. It's missing as an install option in the driver from what I can see. I have an HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO 3D Edition.
