Thank you very much for answering.
I've read that dell and vaio owners didn't have any troubles at all with machines with just as old, or sometimes older, specs (generally speaking). Why? Is it better owning Dell and Vaio machines due to better support, can I assume that, as I am not an expert?
Cheers, SI.

Would you please post the link to this BIOS update? Maybe installation tips also?
-
Thanks for the info. Yes Win 7 would be ideal, but I don't want to spend the $100 for that upgrade. Win 8 would be more palatable at only $40, but then as you said, there are driver/compatibility concerns. I've decided to just stick with Vista for now. My solution for the SSD was to buy an Intel drive because they provide software (Intel SSD Toolbox) which allows TRIM in Vista and even XP.

Are these drivers compatible with compaq presario cq45-106au?
-
The Intel drivers and BIOS releases on the first post of this thread are NOT compatible with your notebook. The CQ45-106AU is an AMD-based notebook, while this thread is tailored for Intel-based models. Most of the other drivers should be compatible, although this is not guaranteed.
