    That Synaptics firmware update broke my touch pad.

    The command prompt said failed 0x0 or something. Touch pad no longer works. The Mouse settings in Control Panel shows a message saying it could not connect to any touch pad. I ran the firmware update again and it says there is no touch pad.

    I did a Google search and there are a few threads about the same thing in the past. It has to be repaired or replaced.

    Edit: I don't know what happened but something made it work again. I ran a VMWare Ubuntu install and the touch pad started working. Maybe the firmware update flipped something off and between VMWare and Ubuntu something got flipped back on.

    Any idea why HP official site has deleted all newer BIOS files in case of HP DV6 70xx series. Now only the oldest bios F.0A is available. I have confirmed this with 7009tx, 7002tx, and 7000 CTO and the same result. Only a week back and the site was showing F.2B and F.29 as latest ?

    Weird and weirder !

    HP totally removed any evidence of Windows 8.1 support for the dv7-7270ca *BUT* they have finally posted a new BIOS dated August 26, 2014 !!!
    BIOS vF.2D ... sp68425.exe

    ** EDIT **

    Don't don't DON'T apply this BIOS upgrade unless you are running Windows 8 with UEFI enabled in your BIOS.
    If you are running any other O/S and UEFI is disable, it will BRICK your laptop.
    Mine is now bricked. I was running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with UEFI disabled.
    And if HP does not come to the table with something positive (I have already been in touch with them) then that is the end of my HP product ownership. There will not be a 5th purchase of any HP laptop in my future.
    This is dumb and dumb'er'er ... the BIOS utility does not pop up any message saying you must be running with UEFI enabled. It just updates, reboots, and that is that. A nice shiny laptop with 2xSSDs and 1xHDD that only makes a fan noise from there on in. BIOS recovery is not possible. Not impressed at all ... and according to this link there is alot of other people being unnecessarily exposed to HP's lack of safeguards !!!!

    There is no problem with BIOS , just pull out ur SSDs and HDD and turn on ur laptop once without them and u are good to go.

    Dare I ask you if that includes the need to disassemble the notebook and remove the mSATA SSD as well as the primary SATA SSD and SATA HDD ?
    I have pulled all RAM as well as the immediately-accessible SATA devices, but if you're saying that pulling the mSATA is a solution, I will give it a whirl tonight.

    Well here we are again.
    Who would have expected the need to partially disassemble a laptop for a BIOS update.
    Well improfessional came to the rescue ! Hero cookie time !
    Removing the SSD from the mSATA slot (as well as both SATA devices), then powering up, eventually resulted in "Flashing Boot Record ... 100%".
    And then it went looking for an O/S.
    Reassembled and all is well.

    Thanks again improfessional !!! I owe you for the tip !
