Quick Launch Buttons basically provides the driver and functionality for the touch buttons at the top of the keyboard to work, as well as enable the Fn key feature to work correctly.

QuickTouch is more of a software add-on that lets you customize the sounds that your buttons make when they are touched, and can provide an on-screen indicator of the speaker volume when you change it (for 32-bit only). It is not really a driver, and it is optional; however I posted it because some people seem to use it.

A second update just a few hours after the last update -- new audio drivers now up on the original post. Like the last release, these originate from Microsoft Update. Thanks to seasalt29 and BamAlmighty for posting information about these drivers.

    • Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec to version 5.10.6225.0 for Windows XP and version 6.10.6225.0 for Windows Vista/Windows 7.

Updated to the above drivers (from 6.10.6209.0) and now the equalizer in the IDT control panel does not function.

Anyone else? It worked fine in 6209. It's there in 6225, but all sliders are in a horizonal line, and none of the presets make any change.

I rolled back to 6209 and the equalizer and presets work fine.

    Justin,

there's an update also for Realtek drivers for Win7, only the last 4 digits changed (the date), so thy're now: 7.005.0820.

The link hasn't changed from the one you posted: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...iteID=1&DownTypeID=3&DownID=800&PFid=5&Conn=4

Keep up the good job... ;)

P.S.: checking the drivers...Realtek forgot to update the version in the .inf file. So you won't notice any change on that, also the binary drivers are the same, just the inf and cat files have changed.

Well Justin, also for modded drivers from l2vgo the procedure is easy, the only thing is you have to download 2 files and then run the setup. :D

As for your second comment, the adventurous people don't install newest drivers because they provide major new functionalities, it's a sort of a bad virus that hits them, they always want to have the latest version...and sometimes they regret it...they don't follow the motto: "if it works, don't touch it...". ;)

So I'll post for new modded drivers when I feel...not too often, I promise. :D

I installed Windows 7 x64 on my HDX16t, and now I can't find the right file to install the smartmenu program, I especially need the on-screen volume/treble/bass indicators.
    Any idea?

    Quoted from HP:

I didn't test it on W7, in the the first post of this thread you can see that Justin put only Vista as a supported OS for this software, but you can try installing it on W7 and report your findings, it would be nice to have those visual indicators also on W7. :)

Update: It seems QuickTouch is not designed for 64bit systems, check this nice post for in-depth information ;): http://www.withinwindows.com/2008/1...ktouch-on-screen-display-software-is-garbage/

Interesting, and at the same time simply hilarious :) I had the same problem on VISTA x64 , and I thought the lag was because of Vista and not HP's retarded software.

Any good alternative? How can I check the Treble and Bass settings?

    Thanks for the heads up

Unfortunately I always hear people put the blame on Microsoft when there are problems, but in my personal experience 90% of the time it's always software (drivers or apps) made by 3rd parties that cause them. ;)

I don't have alternatives for bass and treble, we should look for a Vista/W7 Gadget (like the one I'm using now to control volume) that works; the problem is that I don't know if there's a standard to control those (bass/treble)...mmm...don't know if MS provided a standard way to access also those values...probably via DirectX...who knows, we should dig into it... ;)

I found a really nice and free alternative for Volume slider:

    Webpage: http://matt.malensek.net/software/documentation/3RVX.html
    Download last version (v2.5): http://matt.malensek.net/software/3RVX_2.5.msi

I installed it and it's working fine: I mapped voldown, volup and mute buttons, I tried mapping the eject button too but when I try it whatever button I press (also vol buttons) it ejects the drive.

Anyhow I'm happy with it, it also has skins for the graphics, so I'm using it and have removed the standard volume icon from the systray. :D

If we could only contact the author to ask him to support the bass/treble buttons we would havefound the alternative to QuickTouch. ;)

You can check the setting by "Right Clicking" on the speaker icon in your taskbar (Next to the time) then select "Playback Devices" Right click on "Speakers and Dual Headphones" select properties and you could set your Treble and Bass setting from the "Tone Controls" tab.

akuojo, the problem is not how to set them...the problem is that if you want to use the multimedia keys that our notebooks provide since the quicktouch software doesn't work on x64 OSs you cant' see the values easily. :)

Axel Foley, I understand what you mean now but quicktouch does work on 64bit (HP Quick Lanuch always worked good for me but I found 1 bug, you can't see the on screen display of your audio setting when playing music with Windows Media Player). When I first got my HDX it came with Vista 64bit and when you press the Cap Locks or Num Lock key something would pop up on screen showing if that function is either on or off. When I reinstalled my operating system because I changed my HDD from the stock 320GB to 500GB @ 7200RPM I never had this function because I never installed quicktouch. After finding this tread I downloaded the quicktouch program and when I installed it, the program worked find until my second restart. That leaves me with my conclusion: The quicktouch program only works good on the Operating System that came with the notebook.

Does anyone know how to use MediaSmart on screen controls when your adjusting your audio using quick lanch which is located above the keyboard? My laptop used to use it but when I installed HP Quick Launch update instead of using MediaSmart menu it's using Quick Launch...I want the blueish menu not the black one.

*** I'm not sure if it is the audio driver which gives you the menu or Mediasmart***

All of these drivers work excellent under Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 edition, however DO NOT install the QuickTouch application as it does NOT allow for the QuickLaunch buttons to work and breaks the on-screen display function of the volume/bass/treble controls.

I just rebuilt mine today with the RTM release, Build 7600 and have tried several times, interestingly enough the original HP image did NOT include the install for the QuickTouch application.

Has anyone else experimented with this???

    Thanks,

    Jerry

Here's a description of the last version of QuickTouch from the HP site:

Look at the enhancements line, in bold.

This software doesn't work as intended on x64 OSs.

For in-depth info, refer to this thread: http://www.withinwindows.com/2008/1...ktouch-on-screen-display-software-is-garbage/

These are not opinions akuojo, just simple facts. :)

thank you for wonderful help here. I'm having some difficulty after downgrade my HDX16t to XP Pro x64. There is one driver not found, when I go to device manager and double click on the Yellow Question mark, it shows "Unknown devices", location: on Intel(R) ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919, device status: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
    ...please help.
And one more thing is the HP hard drive protection cannot be installed, when I install I get this error: The HP 3D DriveGuard driver cannot install, the Accelerometer hardware is not present or supported on this unit. (Click OK to exit)... I'm using file named sp44050.exe for this.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility should install the necessary drivers for the LPC Interface. To ensure that all Intel-based devices are updated, manually extract the downloaded exe. Then launch Setup.exe in the extracted contents with the " -overall" parameter (without the quotes).

For HP 3D DriveGuard, the downloaded exe also needs to be extracted. You will have to use the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard and locate the INF in the extracted contents so that DriveGuard is installed properly.

    09/01/2009
    • Updated HP ProtectSmart (3D DriveGuard) Hard Drive Protection to version 4.0.3.1.

Since I don't use HP ProtectSmart/3D DriveGuard, I need feedback on how well this installs. Although I have instructed users to install via the Device Manager, I'm wondering if the HP installation process goes through as well. Please provide your experiences!

    Justin,

I just tested it: it's working perfectly, you just run the exe file there's no need to do it via device manager.

Actually the software installs a Service, drivers, and a GUI to administer the settings.

You will find the icons to configure it in Control Panel, there's a new item called HP 3D Driveguard.

It also integrates with the Windows Mobility Center that you can run from the control panel too.

    Ciao... ;)

Thanks Justin, I ran the setup.exe file in command line with -overall and it show install device: Intel(R) ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919... but then in the Device Manger that device still is not found...dont know why?

HP 3D DriveGuard... had no luck with this. When I extract the exe file it has only AMDx64 and x86 (I guess this is only for Win 32 not 64bit)... could not install.

I have XP Pro x64 installed on HDX 16t (Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 2.13GHz)

Please help if anyone has solution for this. Thanks.

    Inou,

for the 3D DriveGuard sw, just run the exe, don't extract anything, it will auto-install. Anyway the AMDx64 folder is for 64bit systems.

for the intel drivers, retry with these parameters: "-A -OVERALL"

For the unidentified device, can you tell us the SUBSYS value of the device please? Maybe it doesn't depend on Intel's chipset drivers, it's just that you're missing a specific driver.

HP MediaSmart Smart Menu is the one give OSD + sound clicking when you change volume + control for Bass and Treble.

HP Quick Launch enable the eject button to work and other Fn keys.

    QuickTouch is totally nothing. Useless.

Right now I have OSD + all touch +Fn full working with only SmartMenu + Quick Launch.

    QuickTouch is just junk.

Well, all I wanted is to have the OSD control of the volume/trebble/bass. You say Smartmenu is enough for that?

I tried one of the versions, and it didn't work on windows 7 RTM x64. It gives an error while loading on startup. Which setup file did you use?

As of right now, I do not believe that all MediaSmart utilities are completely compatible with Windows 7 as of yet. From what I'm seeing, MediaSmart TV is the only one that is currently Windows 7 compatible.

Thanks for the feedback. I will update the original post.

Hi, can anyone tell me if after a clean Windows Vista Ultimate x64 install and after installing HP Quick Launch Buttons, when you press the volume controls of the quicklaunch buttons, if it shows the screen indicator of the volume? Same for the bass/treble controls. Greetings

I just tested what DJ-R said about SmartMenu and QuickLaunch and he's right. :)

I installed SmartMenu (sp42238.exe) on W7 x64 RTM, and it works (Justin, you can update the description adding W7 compatibility). After installation, don't forget to run it via the shortcut on the desktop.

Volume, Bass and Treble are working. The Media buttons (to the right of the power button) are active too, but only after a reboot (make sure SmartMenu.exe process is running, it should autostart).

So what is QuickTouch for? I guess that QuickTouch has been replaced by QuickLaunch, it's not present in the list of drivers on the HP site for my notebook ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2100&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3826127&lang=en). If Justin confirms...it could also be removed from the list in the first post.

    Thanks a lot DJ-R. ;)

Thanks Axel for the info. I will add the Windows 7 compatibility designation to the MediaSmart utilities. I will also probably update the entire driver thread soon as to which drivers require a system restart so that they will be fully functional (I will probably need help in identifying which ones :)). The HP driver download system is apparently being updated as well with Windows 7 compatibility, so we'll know what is officially compatible pretty soon.

QuickTouch looks like it has been abandoned by HP -- it's not required either...I am probably going to remove since it is, if not already useless.

I realized that this is a problem (and it isn't the first time either ). Realtek is trying to use redirects which prevent direct linking to the drivers. I used to direct link to their FTP servers, but apparently their download servers will kick you if the referrer is not the Realtek website. Since this method of linking is no longer fully working, the next best solution is probably what you suggested. I will be updating this as well.

BTW, I am having a hectic week as I finish my last week of summer classes so I may not be replying/updating as fast as I usually am. Apologies in advance. :D

    • Removed HP QuickTouch.
    • Updated Realtek driver links due to redirecting issues.

    Justin,

this is our hobby, there's no need to apologize for nothing, life comes first...this is our spare time...and btw: you're doing a terrific job... ;)

Another suggestion: a one-line description of each driver/software would be very helpful. If you need some help feel free to contact me. :)

If we continue like this, probably HP will put a link to this thread instead of their driver-page. :D

Descriptions would probably be a good idea since there are so many drivers that are available. You can write the short descriptions if you want and I'll look them over. :)

HP...using this driver thread? It would be flattering (and at the same time amusing) to see them link to this driver thread. However, I don't think they would be doing that anytime soon. :D

Finally, for everyone: a second update for today -- this time, new Intel chipset drivers. This package has been released four days ahead of the projected release date. :)

    • Updated Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility to version 9.1.1.1019.

You can view the release notes here.

Edit: inou, you should try this new Intel package. It apparently fixes a problem where not all drivers were being installed under 64-bit Windows operating systems.

The third update in the same day, for the first time ever.

    • Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.4.2.

Also, coming on or before October 22: HP Integrated Bluetooth Module driver version 6.2.0.9602 (7.0 C, SP44774).

Justin, this is the direct link to the new Intel Chipset Software installer:

    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18052/a08/infinst911autol.exe

I just tried to install it but it doesn't work for me, it says that my machine doesn't respect the minimum requirements (something like that).

In the release notes I read it should support the Series 4 Chipset (our chipset is the PM45, part of series 4), so it should work...strange.

    Did anybody else tried it?

How do you manually extract the contents of these Intel install files?

    Code:
    install.exe -a -p c:\intel\

Where install.exe is the file you downloaded.

You can also try install.exe -? to check for all the options.

Anyway, these last drivers are surely bugged on W7, setup doesn't work, different users on other forums confirmed.

Did someone try these on Vista?
