as neither of those chipset packages are available directly from intel, they shouldn't be used on 'important' machines (such as the only one a person might own).
for the purposes of this list, I believe Justin (quite rightly) will NEVER list drivers or software that are not available directly from the makers official d/l site.

Atheros Wireless LAN Driver 1.00 REV: C
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47501-48000/sp47997.exe -
FWIMBW, 197.45 is working fine on my DV8 with GT 230m.
I think there already is a newer version on nvidia's site but since 197.45 is working well, I'm in no hurry to update it again and will probably wait for future display driver updates to appear in MS Update before updating it again. -
Justin,
I just noticed my machine shows I have Digital Persona v. 4.11.3826 whereas the first page of this thread lists 4.11.3805 as the latest version. I believe I got my version from the link on your first page (not 100% sure though) so perhaps the version number shown there is incorrect? -
The latest version was buggy.. the one Justin has posted seemed to work best to get installed for virgin machines that did a fresh install.. once installed, it will self update to the latest version and be ok.
-
I see . . . So I probably installed the one from Justin's driver page and then it must have updated itself (or I let it update) cause the only downloaded file I have is the one from Justin's page.
-
Same here.. and I too have the latest.. mine checks for updates once a week. -
That's correct - the links must come from officially authorized sources and the packages should be natively compatible with the device in question (meaning, no INF modification is needed and whatnot). Authorized sources include the part manufacturers' (Intel, JMicron, NVIDIA, AMD, Realtek, etc.) websites, OEM (HP, Dell, Acer, ASUS, Sony, Lenovo, etc.) websites, and Microsoft Update. In addition, the drivers must be WHQL certified.
I have an even newer version that I just posted. See the changes below.
My DigitalPersona Personal software still lists the same version as on the first post. I attempted to check for updates, but it does not find a newer version. It also checks once a week automatically too.
05/14/2010
- Updated Intel WiFi Link driver to version 13.2.0.30.
- Updated Atheros Wireless LAN to version 8.0.0.316.
- Updated Synaptics TouchPad to version 15.0.13.3.
- Added HP Wireless Assistant version 4.0.6.0.
- Updated JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.43.2 (thanks z3tor).
Please note that I added the HP Wireless Assistant to the first post! It is optional as mentioned but I posted these because of the requests for it.
-
Thank you for adding HP Wireless Assistant 4.0.6.0 however it didn't work on my HDX18. I got an error message that it is not supported on my notebook. For me v3.50.10.1 is working perfectly. The download link is ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45222.exe
-
Can someone confirm Wireless Assistant 4.0.6.0 is compatible with notebooks in this thread? My install failed to a message: "This computer is not compatible with Wireless Assistant 4" I tried to install previous versions, but only succeeded with version 3.50.11.2 REV: A.
(3.50.11.2 REV: A) ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48392.exe -
Hi guys, i just received my dv6 quad edition notebook.
Can you tell me what all should i update now?
Thanks! -
While this is a wonderful thread.... seems its getting quite tricky to have a driver update board that covers so many different units as they are not all built the same.
While many parts are compatible, they make revisions, different wireless adapters etc.....
I haven't had my DV8T very long and its already gone from CTO 1000 to 1100, and now 1200.
I can't imagine all the other revisions/changes done concerning all the other laptops too?
Its hard for one person to manage without excellent feedback as that one person is obviously not going to have all the different laptops involved nor have the time to trial and error install and test each update.
The prior simple question of the previous post made me think.... The guy just simply wants to know what to update?
Its getting quite complex as more water goes under the bridge.
I myself, and very hesitant to install stuff straight off of HP's ftp site or directly from the manufacturer either one as they are both lack at communicating with each other.
HP has propietary issues that clash with the manufacturers "such as the capacitance sliders, Intel chipsets were extremly tricky for me to get working right, HP 3D driveguard, Smartprotect drivers, Fingerprint drivers. JMicron card reader, Intel turboboost technology driver, Intel matrix storage technology driver" all of which I had issues and were very tricky to get working right.
Simply installing off of HP's download site is not the answer either as they are grossly out dated usually.. and some just flat out won't work with a fresh install as there are drivers missing that only came with the original OEM software "that that you formatted" before your fresh install.
I thought it was quite comically silly I had to go all the way back to version MediaSmart SmartMenu v2.10a to get them to work right "thanks to Axel".
While thats gross negligence on the part of HP, its fact as they don't feel sorry for you, nor are inclined to support "anything" except their proprietary OEM Restore Disk..... they DO NOT Support windows 7 OS in its pure virgin form. Even their high level techs get tripped up with virgin windows..... pretty sad and frustrating.
They finally gave up and sent me to their special team "that I have to pay for" to solve the problems and they too could not and my money was later refunded "after I had a case manager assigned to me "at my request".
So keep that in mind if your thinking of reformatting.
While I love my system now.. I did pay a hefty price of trial and error to get everything working perfect.
Many have decided to not reformat and simply clean up the OEM setup as much as possible and that seems to work ok to.
I said all that in response to the simple question... "what do I need to update now?"....
Well the answer is everything you can!
But its not so simple figuring out what you can "for your system" verses wait till something more compatible comes out".
Just do lots of restore points and backups to bail you out if you get things all jammed up. -
hi,
i went to the hp support page and downloaded the drivers for my notebook.
However, on trying to install, it gave the error of 'incompatible hardware'
i tried the following 2 drivers-
1. Intel Management Engine Interface Driver HP Pavilion dv6t-2100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
2. Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver HP Pavilion dv6t-2100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
What could i possible be doing wrong? -
Newbie here heheh want to ask how to update HPprotect smart?? thanks
-
If you have the stock driver, you need to uninstall it before installing the new one from here. They renamed it and so on.

Requesting removal of latest IDT Audio driver from Microsoft, on HDX18T IDT Audio panel EQ/Dolby settings have no effect despite usage of internal speakers or external headphone/speaker. Last good driver tested on my machine (and I've tested literally every one) is .6242, there's a reason HP didn't update this on their page.
-
Don't know about Dolby (don't even see that, where is it supposed to be?), but the IDT EQ (and everything else related to the IDT Audio Codec) is working fine on my system with the latest driver.
Seems quite a leap to assume that because something isn't working properly on one person's machine, that it must be defective and not working on everyone else's machine, especially when no one else has reported such problems with the latest IDT driver. A little premature to be requesting removal, imo. -
All settings working fine on my machine with the latest driver.
-
Guess it must be one of those "hardware differences" that I've read of, I do have an early model HDX18. No driver has worked correct since .6242
-
You might want to make sure that both the driver and the IDT software are getting updated on your machine. I believe (not 100% certain) the IDT driver and IDT software front end are separate programs, each with their own version number. Not sure whether both are always automatically updated by the driver update package.
-
I thought about that, and went far enough as to remove it from drivers, then use CC Cleaner to fix any registry errors, and delete the /program files/idt folder. Can anyone confirm all the other spots files related to would be in and to entirely wipe my system clean of any trace of this? I'd be willing to give it another try, but I haven't been able to use a driver since .6242 without issue.
The current IDT Audio Monitor is 1.0 Can anyone confirm their new version by right clicking on the IDT Icon in system tray and going "about" ? -
On my HDX18T - 1200, Vista 64 bit, IDT Audio Monitor is 1.0 (this version # hasn't ever changed and I have updated the IDT driver from this post many times)
This may not be the only way but here's how I finally got IDT updates to work every time.
1. Log in as computer Administrator
2. From Control Panel, Programs and Features, Uninstall IDT Audio if it exists. Do not reboot if prompted.
3. From Device Manager, Sound, video and game controllers, If you see "IDT High Definition Audio Codec" or "High Definition Audio.." (no "IDT") right click it and choose Uninstall. Check the box "Delete the driver software for this device", click OK. Do not reboot if prompted.
4. From Device Manager, click Action, Scan for hardware changes. Let Windows find the device and install drivers automatically or if prompted to search for a driver, choose "Ask me later". Do not reboot if prompted.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the device name "High Definition Audio.." (no "IDT") appears in the list AND the "Delete the driver software for this device" checkbox is no longer available. At this point all previous driver versions are deleted so Cancel the Uninstall.
6. Use CCleaner to remove registry entries.
7. Reboot. If the Found new hardware wizard starts and prompts to search for a driver, choose "Ask me later".
8. Install the latest IDT software from this post. I am using 6.10.6276.0 which must be installed via the Device Manager, Update driver function after extracting the Windows cab file. Just be sure to grab the correct 32 or 64 bit version for your machine. Follow the screen prompts and when promted to reboot choose to reboot later. The IDT audio control panel will be available after the next step.
9. Perform system Shutdown and cold boot. (I found in earlier versions, that if a warm reboot was performed after the driver install, the speaker mute button on the bezel stayed red even though sound was working at least until a cold boot was done. Solved by always doing a cold boot
)
Additional Tip: If you want more volume than provided with the default settings, create a Custom Preset on the Equalization page in the IDT audio control panel. Just push the sliders up higher to desired levels and click Save. -
QUESTION:
On the first post concerning the Synaptics touchpad drivers it says:How am I supposed to tell what my device ID is?... there is not a tab for that in device manager... is there a way to add the tab, or another place to see it in Win7, or does it not matter?
I have the DV8T currently running Synaptics Touchpad Driver v13.2.4.12 A 9-2009

Thanks vjbalex for trying, unfortunately while it may have worked for you (and I have Win7 vs your Vista) this did not work for me. Do you actually hear an audible "click" and major difference when using Dolby Natural Bass or enabling Surround? I do with 6242, but with 6276 it doesn't do a thing. The EQ does work, but overall audio quality is crap in comparison. I've tried everything, I even went as far as to search the entire system for EACH AND EVERY file that's in the cab and remove it if I found it, I couldn't have done a better system clean before installation if I tried. Anything past 6242 simply does not work right. I went into properties for the audio device and changed sampling rates a few times, you name it. Disabled the other audio devices (such as HP dock digital audio and independent dual headphones), pretty much tried everything humanly possible. The results are the same. I don't know what's causing it, possibly a slightly faulty audio card (which I don't see how considering 6242 works pretty well) or slight differences since mine is an earlier model possibly, or, even me being Windows 7 vs your Vista. Regardless, sometimes striving to have the absolute latest driver isn't the best idea, infact, it can be a horrible idea at times because there are sometime reasons that driver releases don't make HP's website, and I've seen Microsoft's update system use newer incorrect drivers for hardware that's worked perfectly before "upgraded" on many other systems as well.
And to make another point, I'm not too happy with IDT as is, internal solutions as such are no match for professional well built audio...they may have come a long way, but IDT's drivers are ridden with high memory usage/cpu usage out of nowhere and obvious inability to work uniformly. I've seen many complain about it's magic cpu/memory usage. I've watched it go from a few megs to well near 150megs memory usage. Having to restart the service to fix that (or for a normal person that doesn't know how, it would entail an annoying reboot, of course). I'd almost go as far as to contact IDT and send them diagnostics so they could figure out what's going on here, but their site is laden with "contact your PC manufacturer" at most points, and I'm sure HP wouldn't know what to do with it considering anyone you talk to talks on the simplest of terms "sir, did you try restarting your pc" and other annoying simpleton diagnostics. -
Im curious to know too what everyone is finding.....
-
The other thing, Windstrings and others reading this...is the interesting quirk that works in my favor in 6242. In this driver, when I plug my Bose 2 speaker system into the headphone jack, the audio control panel retains "Dolby Sound Space Enhancer" and does not switch to "Dolby Headphone" as previous versions of the driver that also worked on my computer did. In other words, it's not properly switching to headphone mode on the Dolby end, but again, that's what I wanted anyway. IDT could have written these drivers so much better...things like this remind me of my Palm Pre...a better job could have been done and it's taking them forever to do so, but unlike IDT, Palm has pressure on them and HP just acquired them, so they pretty much will continue updating and fixing considering an entire homebrew community has been doing so since...IDT unfortunately doesn't have a following or a homebrew community, so chances are nill that it'll ever become perfection or make use of what it really can do (such as for instance, a software switch to keep Dolby Sound Space or SWITCH to Dolby headphone via users choice)...can't be that hard to do now can it...

Check your Synaptics Touchpad DeviceID. It should be SYN1E0F for dv8 Quad Edition
You should find it in details tab
Hmm... found mine in following registrykey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ACPI\SYN1E10\4&6974830&0\HardwareId Hope this helpsLast edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Yes, you were right...... seems we ought to put this in the instructions if there is not a better way to check.... wow! -
:sigh:
Or just look in device manager, open the specific device, open the DETAILS tab, and look for the hardware ID property. Easy.
That tab has been available in windows since PnP came out in windows 95. -
Nevermind.. found it... had to doubleclick on the driver.. go to the details tab and then where it says "properties" it says device description.. I had to change that to say Hardware IDs
For some reason I didn't see my details tab at first.. I guess I"m blind. -
Justin would you mind checking that driver again?
When I installed the broadcom 2070 6.3.0.4000 "sp48538.exe" it installed perfectly.. but when I check it in device manager after the install its says its version 6.3.0.3920? I also see the later one here.
I also see a version 6.3.0.4010 out there but don't know now to get it or if its the right one for sure. -
did anyone install the new bios that came out on the 14-15th of this month?
how does it fare?
any noticeable changes?
Thanks! -
Updates -- please note that I changed Wireless Assistant to a more compatible version. Also, updated BIOS release for dv6 Gen 2 and dv7 Gen 3.
05/15/2010
- Changed HP Wireless Assistant to version 3.50.11.2.
- Updated BIOS for dv6-2xxx and dv7-3xxx to version F.1B.
- Updated Validity Fingerprint Reader to driver version 2.1.0.2 and package version 4.1.139.
- Changed "HP Integrated Bluetooth Module" to "Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth".
- Updated Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth driver to version 6.3.0.4000.
Yes, I noticed that the driver version is 6.3.0.3920. It might be the package version number -- let me take a look and see.
I tried F.1B, and the BIOS update seems to be working normally and without problems at the moment. -
i tried installing the F.1B
but the installer quit shortly after starting and nothing quite happened.
My system has been stable since (with the old bios). But now i am scared to try it again.
Any idea why it might have happened?
I have dv6t 2300 and i am on win7 Home Premium 64bit.
Thank you.
EDIT- installed fine the 2nd time around. It seems the installer didnt extract right the first time. -
Also, i found this on laptpovideo2ogo forum
Synaptics Touchpad Driver v15.0.13.3 Released

I installed version F.1B for dv6 couple days ago. No noticeable changes, everything working fine so far. Latest bluetooth driver install took about 15 mins. Progressbar showed about 95% and system seemed idle for a long time. I nearly gave up, but waited and it finally asked to reboot.
Bluetooth also working fine with the 6.3.0.3920 driver.

New Rapid Storage drivers v9.6.2.1001 out
-
For what its worth... those of you that use "Glarys Utilities" to clean your registry... it removes entries that cause the latest bluetooth to not load right.
What I did to fix was
1. Run glarys to clean registry.
2. Reload the braodcom 2070 bluetooth drivers
3. Reboot and rerun Glaries to clean registry.
4. Every entry that came up new I excluded from further finding so Glarys will not find it again. "At least those entries". If Glarys gives you an error excluding so many at one after another "about 40" bounce around helps and simply rescan will reset it without undoing what you've already done. -
Thanks Rick.... Welcome......
I tried those drivers.. downloaded them from here.
They expanded into a 32bit and 64bit directory "where I had the install file stored" and I used the 64bit one and had to install from device manager. ie: IDE/ATAPI Controllers
They seem to install just fine... no change in my peformance stores... but seems to work good.
----------Edit
While my performance scores didn't change, things seem to be more instant and punchy...... definitely not worse.... could be placebo effect but I'm happy in my bliss! -
Wishmaster, this has already been posted by justin as the official HP update (sp48337).
Furthermore: justin will never post drivers who are not published by an official vendor/manufacturer (your link is from station-drivers) and that is not WHQL.
In particular, Synaptics driver are very specific to the hardware vendor, HP makes several customizations to them so it's recommended to use HP's version.
Check the updates log at the bottom of the first post for the latest releases.

HP has posted a new version of MediaSmart DVD:

It installed just fine.... hangs up several minutes doing whatever it does.. but it finally finishes and things work perfect.

Did you have the option of installing it on a drive other than C:?
-
No... a black dos type window comes up warning you not to close that box until install finishes.. it was totally automated.. no choices....
-
Thanks, Alan. That's too bad, though... I was hoping to put the "big" program onto my HDD and save space on my SSD.
-
Thanks pae77, I'm currently aware of the new MediaSmart 4 updates that are being released -- it will take me a bit of time to put them up...currently surrounded by the availability of the new notebooks that have just been released at HP.
Also, classes are unfortunately keeping me very busy this week
-- I'll get the updates up when I can.
Edit and rather off-topic: This thread had just surpassed 200,000 views!
Thanks again everyone!
