It seems that the new HP Movies & TV does not replace Internet TV & Live TV. It is just a launcher for smartmenu to be able to run Internet TV & Live TV from smartmenu. However on my HDX18 when I launch Movies & TV I am able to launch Internet TV only but not Live TV.

Justin, I think this would be a good add to the first post... or is it too "bloated" already.. :)

BTW, I decided to install this and learned something interesting. The only installation options were to a UFD or to the HP_Tools partitions - not to the primary partition C: ... It was the first thing I can recall seeing that installed to the HP_Tools partition so I thought others might like to know about it.

Thanks for the post ......... just a suggestion for all future posts from everyone concerning new drivers.

*If people can note as to whether they have loaded the drivers without incident or
*whether they have merely noticed a new one posted would help.
*And what machine they loaded it on.

I for one hate to be a guinea pig and I'm sure Justin doesn't want to post anything thats not proven yet.

Just knowing someone else has installed it really helps me feel warm and fuzzy before I try.

I have a fresh virgin install of windows myself.. I have no confidence anything HP has will work right at all unless you have all the OEM stuff loaded with the extra partition and tools "which I don't, nor do I want".

Ha-ha! You've got a point... I haven't installed any so I wonder whether they offer a "readme" file to explain what the update offers? Maybe you'd feel better if you burned more CDs? :) just kidding, of course.

I don't even know if I have anything LightScribe related on my Dv8. I have nothing in Control Panel -Programs and Features that indicates LightScribe nor does my BD-R/RW drive doesn't mention LightScribe anywhere. How can I locate or identify whether LightScribe is involved in my Dv8 experience??

Alan, I think that's the right idea when Justin, justifiably, acts as a sort of 'gatekeeper' and doesn't post them on the last page till they're verified for instalability, applicability, and compatibility.

I'd only add to your suggestion that, when the update link is posted, they also tell us what they learned about what the update does - what does it improve or fix, etc.?

    - - Phil

When an official driver or software update is posted, it usually comes with release notes or other documentation. I try to post them along with the update so that users are informed as to what has improved or what has been fixed, etc. :)

Thanks again for the support everyone! :) Users like you keep me posting and assisting!

    05/27/2010
    • Added MediaSmart Movies and TV version 1.0.0.10 (1.0 A3).

    05/30/2010
    • Updated LightScribe System Software to version 1.18.15.1 (thanks z3tor).

Sorry for the apparent confusion, Justin. My suggestion, quoted above, was intended to be adopted by those OTHER than you who post various "finds" here without testing them or describing their content.

Yours are well done and informative and usually offer links to descriptive information on each new driver while the poster to whom the various responses and suggestions were directed had not provided such links or information in their posts.

Thanks, again, Justin, for your efforts!

I've been trying to install the latest chipset drivers for two days, and even though I started with 9.1.1.1013 and downloaded and installed both 9.1.1.1025 and 9.1.2.1007, somehow I ended up with 9.1.1.1022??? Seems to work fine though.

Intel's website says that 9.1.2.1007 is for desktops. Anyone have luck installing it?

    Thanks,

I suspect that 9.1.1.1022 is the latest for the Intel Chipsets in our Dv8. Everyone who has posted on the subject has ended up at 9.1.1.1022 as the highest driver level. Hence it seems reasonable that the package contains updates for several different chipsets and the appropriate ones are used to update ours.

First I want to thank for the list of drivers, amazing value.

I have HDX 18 and I have just flashed BIOS to F32. I expected to see more options but no. Still this kindergarten BIOS with 2 options. So my question regarding this is:
    1. Can more advanced features be unlocked somehow? I saw that Insyde does have also advanced options, there are even screenshots online. It doesn't make sense that they don't include best BIOS in most expensive model!
    2. If answer to 1 is "Lol, no." - is it possible to install some other BIOS with more options? Has anyone done any tweaks and created a normal BIOS version for HDX 18?

I am trying to use Spinrite 6.0 to check my hard drives and it is working on "Discovering System's Mass Storage Devices" for 2 hours with no success. My questions are:
    1. Has anyone tried Spinrite 6.0 with a similar laptop and what is your experience?
    2. I have read that this problem might be related to some drivers and fact that the drives are SATA. If so, how did you solve this problem? Any drivers from the list that I can use and how?

I haven't found any that can be flashed onto our HP laptops to replace the restricted BIOS offered by HP.
Since Gibson Research says SR6 requires a 32-bit processor, I wouldn't expect it to run on a 64-bit CPU like the Core2 Duo. They write their stuff in assembly language so it is hardware restricted to 32-bit processors. Have you checked with Gibson Research to determine whether they have a version that runs on a 64-bit CPU? They haven't updated their web page for a year so maybe they have something in the works.

    Hope this helps ...

As Phil (PMorgan) responded, I believe the answer to these questions is currently an unfortunate no. :(

New updates on the first post:

    06/02/2010
    • Updated Intel GMA / HD Graphics to version 8.15.10.2119 [15.17.4(.64).2119].
    • Updated Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 15.0.17.0.

Wow! I can see it will take a while to catch up with it - I didn't understand most of it, (I'm sure they're speaking English, Ha-ha! but, with all the acronyms they're tossing around, I can't be sure) quite techie (as it needs to be, I suppose ) but I'll lurk for a while and hope to start understanding it.

    Notes:
This driver supports officially Intel 3, 4, 5, 3400, 900 and 800 series chipsets. Unpacked the installer first, then ran the installer with -overall parameter. Install was successfull tho chipset driver version is still 9.1.1.1022. Seems to have fixed my instability issue with version 9.1.2.1007(beta?) (random explorer.exe crashes). This driver is older than the latest one in the first page. If someone else is having trouble with the latest driver, you might want to try this one.

This component is replacement of HP QuickLaunch Buttons. This is only for Consumer Notebook platforms. Uninstalled previous Quick Launch Buttons version before installing this version. Install was successfull, tho no info about progress or wether the installation had finished or not, was never shown. Required reboot after install. This version resolved the missing keyboard filter driver issue for me. Seems to be working fine.

Anyone know if the new whql certified Nvidia Verde notebook drivers released yet? Nvidia download server seems to be down at the moment...

I copied the file to my root directory and did (Windows key + R) and insert "C:\sp48666.exe -overall" and it still gave me an error at the end saying it didn't install properly.

simply executing the sp48666.exe file does the same thing.. it puts it to C:\swsetup\sp48666\setup.exe

Did you copy all those files to root or run the command to there you extracted them "if not on C:"?

Nevermind.. I basically extracted them by doublclicking on the file and then "windows key +R" and typing "C:\swsetup\sp48666\setup.exe -overall"

    that worked fine.. thanks

After reboot, everything seems to be all good.. not sure what it did.. I too still show the same version "9.1.1.1022" in device manager.

This sp48666 contains an older chipset installation 9.1. 1.1027 than the one I previously installed from this thread several days ago which was 9.1. 2.1027. I received a warning that it was older when I attempted to install it, and it gave me an opportunity to cancel, which I did. I don't see why I would want to install an older chipset version.

Did you READ my post...? Then don't install it if you are fine with the latest version. :)

Has anyone else noted that chipset driver 9.1.2.1007 is a beta release? Below is a quote from 9.1.2.1007 readme.txt. Don't know for sure if my random explorer.exe crashes were caused by this chipset driver, but installing 9.1.1.1027 seems to have fixed this.

Install package contains no Release Notes...

I had another weird problem with windows frequently saying my computer needed troubleshooting. So i launched the troubleshooter and it said there was a problem with Keyboard Filter driver and windows cant find solution to this problem. So i did some googling and found out that HP Quick Launch Buttons was causing this. I tried reinstalling it, but it did not correct this problem. HP Quick Launch 1.0.18, that is replacement of HP QuickLaunch Buttons, fixed this.

Guess I must have skimmed over your post. I haven't been noticing any problems with the beta version of the chipset. I'm still at 9.1.1.1022 on everything or almost everything anyway despite applying the beta update.

I wouldn't worry. As noted by Phil (props) and others, 9.1.1.1022 seems to be the latest version for our chipset, even if you have installed the new 9.1.2.1007. And it seems to work fine. Haven't tried 9.1.1.0027 - has anyone actually gotten this one to install - without ending up with the same 9.1.1.1022?

I have a dv5-1215ee (windows 7) and has a working HP Quick Launch Buttons with no keyboard filter problem using the latest driver (6.50.16.1). I decided to try the new HP Quick Launch (1.0.18), so I uninstalled the old one and installed the new one. Indeed there were no progress identifier or something and its an instant install. I rebooted manually.

After reboot though, I noticed that the keyboard driver is only Standard PS/2. That's why all the Fn Buttons weren't working. So I updated the driver and installed Standard PS/2 WITH HP QLB. I rebooted.

Another reboot though, I saw that they changed the color theme of Fn+Esc to black which is kinda cool. But what's not cool is, not all Fn buttons are working for me. Specifically, Help, Sleep, Lock, Screen Brightness, Break, Print Screen, and System Requirements.

And now, I tried testing it again. Pressed Fn+Esc and all it did was change the white light of the mute button and the blue light of the wifi button to amber. Pressed it again and it changed back to normal, but it did not open the HP System Information.

I'll try installing the old driver and install the new driver without removing the old one and see what would be the effect. Else, guess I just have to revert back to the old driver then which is kinda sad because I like the new Black Fn+Esc. :(

NOTE: I have a hunch that the new HP Quick Launch driver doesn't have a keyboard driver included (only Fn Drivers) as its size is only 7 mb whereas the older one is 26 mb. Though, this is a hunch, I would try installing the old one and the new one without removing the old one, because removing the old one also removes the Keyboard Driver with HP QLB.

    UPDATE:

The new HP Quick Launch (1.0.18) pairs up with the keyboard driver "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Its Fn+Esc combination refers to the program "cnbSysInfo" in Hewlett-Packard Directory. Because it uses the "Standard PS/2 Driver", it doesn't enable OTHER Fn+Esc buttons, only SOME. And those SOME buttons I'm referring send a GENERAL code that Windows 7 understands without the need of HP QLB driver for the keyboard.

The old HP Quick Launch Buttons (6.50.16.1) pairs up with its included driver "Standard PS/2 with HP QLB". Its Fn+Esc combination refers to a program "hpSysInfo" in Hewlett-Packard Directory. Because it uses its own included driver, it enables ALL Fn commands.

Notice that there are two different programs for the Fn+Esc combination, (cnbSysInfo is cool and black while hpSysInfo is the old one). So if you mixmatch and have different pairings of HP Quick Launch and keyboard drivers, the Fn+Esc won't work such as what happened to me.

Therefore, if you want to have all the Fn commands working and also have the New black program, I suggest that you replace the hpSysInfo with the new program cnbSysInfo and just rename it back to hpSysInfo to have the cool black program. Also, replace the GetBIOSData.dll with the new GETBiosData.dll to have the new program working. :) (Attachment follows, always backup first)

Also, the touch sensitive buttons above the keyboard with the MediaSmart button works with or without the HP Quick Launch software and Keyboard Driver. Don't know about those laptops with the QuickPlay button though.

Sorry to hear that HP Quick Launch 1.0.18 is not working properly for you. I don't use fn shortcuts much, but most of them seem to work well in my machine with version 1.0.18. Only strange thing i noticed that some commands like brightness and sysinfo aren't working when using programs like IE or CCleaner, but with some other programs there's no problem. I need to test a bit more. My keyboard driver changed to Standard PS/2 also.

Go to Device "Mangler", Alan, and try to install them manually ... tedious but works well.... point the update wizard to "SW Setup" folder for sp48666. Still leaves it at 9.1.1.1022

Intel Rapid Storage Technology 9.6.3.1001 does not seem to be an official release. As a result, I won't be posting this -- if it's from an authorized official source, then that's a different story. :)

As for the HP Quick Launch Buttons 1.0.18 release, I'm not too sure if all notebooks are fully compatible with it. As had been mentioned, it no longer updates the keyboard driver and is not fully functional with all Fn keys. This is why I have decided to not post them just yet.

    • Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec to version 6.10.6284.0.
    • Updated MediaSmart Video to version 4.0.4021 (3.2 C1) (thanks z3tor).

This is definately a cool thread Justin.....
Its nice to be able to come here from our busy lives and checkin to see what updates are available without worrying if they will stink up my system.......

Good to know they are trustworthy.... while that may prevent us from being on the bleeding edge.. and I acknowledge some of those would work just fine, there are others that sometimes open up a can of worms and are a pain to correct.

I for one never liked being a beta tester.... just too much trouble for my time.
Its nice we can trust the drivers you post.

Thanks for the kind words windstrings! As I had mentioned before, it's the users here that keep me posting (as well as the updates that keep coming)! :)

I just installed the NVIDIA v198.01 graphics drivers, and it's running smoothly for me so far. I'll be posting these up within the next day or so (a very busy final exams week is currently in progress). :)

For those who are interested in the v198.01 drivers, take a look at this thread -- http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-v198-01-whql-drivers-released-ms-update.html

You guys should try 257.xx series. Fastest NVIDIA driver right now on the market.

My test, advantage of 257.xx over 197.xx/198.xx series
+ 10-15FPS in most games (Far Cry 2, WoW, Crysis)
    + 70-100 points more in 3DMark
+ Option to run PhysX on CPU only or GPU only. Great on Core i series.

Mobile VISTA/7 64bit Driver is here:
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 257.15 BETA

Please note this is a UK driver and it works flawlessly on US system.

For overclocking, don't use the NVIDIA System Tools. It does not support 257.xx yet.
Therefore, use EVGA Precision @ EVGA | EVGA Precision | EVGA Precision

EVGA Precision, again it works flawlessly with 257.xx driver.
