Well it installed but it keeps on reverting back to stock clocks not only on each reboot. Each time I close the Nvidia control panel. I had it set to overclocked profile at startup, it still bugged.
EVGA has no issue for me and it also have temperature monitor which is great.

Well, finally had some time to post the updates that have happened over the past few days.
Note that the new NVIDIA graphics drivers do not contain an HDMI audio driver or PhysX software, and all previous versions should be uninstalled first.
06/12/2010
- Updated NVIDIA graphics driver to version 8.17.11.9801 (198.01).
- Updated NVIDIA graphics driver to version 8.17.11.9805 (198.05).
- Updated HP Wireless Assistant to version 3.50.12.1.
-
so how do we get to install the drivers for HDMI audio? where do we find them?
-
I believe by Microsoft Updates under Optional software you should see NVIDIA HDMI driver alone.
-
I installed 198.05 over the previous version that had Physics and HDMI (without uninstalling first) and I still had them after installing the new driver that lacks them. So far everything seems to be working fine.
-
Me too.. can't see any changes... virtually the same 3D Mark numbers. -
6.10.6284.0 of the IDT-Audio-drivers won't play MP3s with the Microsoft media player - at least on my system - back to the official Windows-Update-Drivers
-
Working perfectly on my system. The problem is not likely to be the driver. Perhaps your sound settings got reconfigured and messed up when the driver was updated. You probably just need to adjust/fix some settings.
-
For people who needed NVIDIA HDMI Audio Driver I have uploaded latest version (1.0.9.1) here : NVIDIA HDMI Audio Driver 1.0.9.1
After unpacking just run setup.exe to install it. -
257.19 WHQL available for developers.
Good sign for public beta release (hopefully this month) -
beta drivers have no place in this list.....
-
alright then, you should be happy with this one,
NVIDIA 257.21 WHQL out!
go on this link -> Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers -
Cool, installed and seems to be working great.
-
These must be for desktops.. I get the error saying its not compatible with the hardware on my system and it exits.
Here is the one for notebooks win7 64bit... I downloaded the wrong one. -
It's a rare occasion but I decided to update to this one and picked up about 85 points (6100 now) on my 3D Mark 06 score.
Regards
- - Phil -
They stayed virtually the same for me.....
Do you change any of the settings for 3D mark 06?
I use defaults. -
Updated the first post with the new NVIDIA Verde Release 256 - 257.21 graphics drivers you guys have been talking about. Includes HDMI Audio driver and PhysX System Software unlike the 198.xx releases.
06/16/2010
- Updated NVIDIA graphics driver to version 8.17.12.5721 (257.21).
-
I decided to reformat and reinstall windows 7 on my HP dv5. Install everything and ALL updated drivers yet I noticed something. The touch-sensitive controls above my keyboard doesn't work anymore and furthermore, the lights of the volume mute button and the wireless button are put out. They're gone. Anyone knows the remedy?
-
Nope ... I don't know enough to "fiddle" with 3DMark06 settings, Alan.
Others reported somewhat larger increases but I didn't get as large a jump.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Its been discussed a few times.. but because the thread is so long I'll post it again:

Sorry to say but that guide is not correct! I haven't even installed mediasmart yet and no matter how do i remove quick launch, it's still faulty and won't recognize any touch. So what I did is, REFLASH bios and all is well.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

In line 12 you install the latest version of quick launch.
sounds like your bios was the issue all along.
This chart if for those who do a fresh install and don't have the original oem files to start from. -
Expanded it and ran setup.. worked like a charm.. thanks Axel. -
^ any visible changes?
-
Just updated the first post with the findings.

- Updated Intel GMA / HD Graphics to version 8.15.10.2141 [15.17.7(.64).2141].
@Axel: How is that FAQ coming along?
-
Never even started it my friend...
Quite busy with some other stuff...but I'll do it...it's on the list...(I hate that list, its only purpose is to grow...even if I do stuff written in there...
)
-
I rarely notice the differences of driver updates this far in the game... they are usually some obscure bug....
I still do it.. cause I don't like running into bugs...
Kinda like spraying for bugs around your house when you never saw any in the first place.... some think its dumb, others don't like running into bugs! -
New Realtek Ethernet driver is now out for everyone and up for grabs.
06/22/2010
- Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 6.239 for Windows Vista and version 7.021 for Windows 7.

HP has released new BIOS F25 for dv8 notebooks.

LOL!

Now thats funny!.....Although thats never happened to me, I wonder why it does to some and not to others?
Seems that would be either inconsistent bio's floating around out there or hardware issues of which another bios update "could" fix...
If that be the case, we must have different bios chips out there as some act differently than others..... -
I've never experienced a failure of W7 to boot on my DV8. I wonder if this description is the result of an inaccurate translation from Chinese.
-
don't know.. but I updated just fine without incident......
they call me Danger!
-
F.25 installed successfully. . . I like to live dangerously too.
-
Thanks guys for discovering this BIOS release -- it's now on the first post.
06/23/2010
- Updated BIOS for dv8 to version F.25.
- Updated links for Synaptics TouchPad driver version 15.0.17.4.

HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection v4.0.10.1
http://download.windowsupdate.com/m..._6fd1cb515e36b399dfa1e4edb41f00011d4175b1.cab
MS calls this HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor, HP used to call this HP 3D Drive Guard...what a mess for a small driver...
-
I've noticed that the newer drivers for the Hard Drive sensor don't give you a option to turn it off in the Mobility Center (Winkey+X) although it still works as I can "drop" my notebook and the orange light comes on (I go down stairs a bit too fast for my HDX it seems), just me here?
Also, the 257.12 drivers idle warmer than the ones before it by 2-3c I've noticed; but my max temps aren't ever over 72c with the new drives; just thought I'd add that in. -
I also noticed that 257.21 doesn't include the HDMI Audio driver though it is indicated in their website that it Installs HD Audio driver version 1.0.9.1 (for supported GPUs)." LOL.
I'll try installing the new HP Protectsmart/HP 3D DriveGuard/HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor and see what happens -
UPDATE: HP ProtectSmart Tile still present in the Windows Mobility Center.
-
06/25/2010
- Changed "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" to "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor."
- Updated HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor to version 4.0.10.1 (thanks Axel Foley).
I added a little note on the first post that ProtectSmart and 3D DriveGuard are all the same in case users didn't know this.
-
Having problems getting this Mobile Data Sensor updated to v4.0.10.1 June 25 2010.
I currently have the intel rapid storage technology driver 9.6.2.1001 installed and HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Driver v4.0.6.1 .
I've tried uninstalling the 4.0.6.1 driver and also tried updating it.. when uninstalling, it prompts me to reboot and when I do it immediately reinstalls itself.
If I simply attempt to update it in device manager and browse to the inf file "accelerometer.inf" on my hardrive after expanding the .cab file it gives me an error saying it found the driver software but encoutered an error while attempting to install it "HP Mobile Data Protecttion Sensor"..... The system cannot find the specified file.
I know this was all hashed over some time back and I managed to get mine updated at that time but can't seem to get the right combination this time?
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
---------------------EDIT
Nevermind.. I was expanding the .cab file wrong... I was opening it with winzip and highlighting one of the files and hitting "ctrl A" to highlight them all and drag them over.. unfortunately that didn't get the files in the right structure, nor did it get all the files...
Once I expanded them using winzip's conventional method so that the directory structure remained intact, then the update from device manager worked perfect......
I posted this for the benefit of someone else who may run across the same confusion. -
I had a similar outcome the first time I tried it, Alan. Then I remembered to extract the cab files and point the "update driver" process to them, then it worked fine.

Hi, yet another lihgtscribe update
Download:
http://download.lightscribe.com/ls/LS_Update_1.18.16.1_.exe -
Thanks.
-
Peter:
How can I tell if I have a drive that uses Lightscribe software or drivers?
Regards,
- - Phil -
Not sure. There probably is a list of supported drives somewhere. I suppose there is a good chance that if you try to install the LS software on a system that doesn't have a LS supported drive, the software might warn you about that . . .?
Perhaps looking at the properties of the optical drive in Device Manager might also show whether or not LS is supported?
Usually, if the drive is not sold or marketed as one that expressly supports LS, then it doesn't.
Mine does support LS, but TBH, I've never even tried the feature yet. You also need special disks for it to work as well as burning software that supports the feature (most probably do). I mostly use ImgBurn or Ashampoo Burning Studio 10. I know the latter supports LS even though I haven't tried to use it. -
On the Mobility Center, under the HP extensions, I have the wireless icon and the mobile data protection sensor. On the sensor I have a "disable button", so I am able to turn it off, and it is the latest version I posted.
-
Same here, although I don't know why I would ever want to turn it off.
