My understanding is that there simply is no turbo boost driver applicable to modern hyperthreaded machines. Turbo boost is inherent in the design of the CPU and operates completely automatically. There is, however, a turbo boost gadget offered by Intel that one can install that simply allows one to graphically observe turbo boost in action in real time.
In earlier Intel designs, there was another kind of turbo boost that was hardware based and had drivers. It never worked well, as I understand it. It is unfortunate and confusing that the same terminology was used to describe how the latest generation of Intel CPUs work, because it has little or no relation to the previous iteration of "turbo boost" that involved a separate piece of hardware that needed to be present and installed and required drivers.
There is a good animated explanation of how modern turbo boost works on Intel's site. Increasing Performance with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology
-
yep, its confusing.. especially when you can find turbo boost drivers out there.....
But it works automatically.. nothing you have to do.....
Download the intel monitor here and let it do its thing to watch it dance! -
OpenGL 4.1 support...

I think you've nailed the real issue, Alan. If you have the processor which includes that feature to manage its multicore architecture, enjoy it. If you don't, seek the proper drivers to make the most of what you have.
I share Justin's view that Intel didn't do its best job at naming this feature and packaging the information on it so this confusing situation would not develop in the first place.

For notebooks with fingerprint readers: a major update is now available to the DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Reader software! It's been a long time coming, but it's been finally posted by HP!
08/23/2010
- Updated DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Reader Software to version 5.1.0.175.
-
Seems pretty nice too!... I just installed over the top of my existing and it all worked perfect!.... It just replaced my old stuff.
Now has a backup restore feature for all your passwords with password protection on that file.
Also has an option now to show scan read quality....
Requires a finger scan for every major change or access in the software.
So far, seems to be a good improvement! -
Glad you survived another software upgrade!
Sure looks like a worthwhile upgrade, Alan. I guess it's worth doing my system clone and then proceed with installing it.
Seems to me that a finger scan to access or make changes has always been required - my current version (as received last mid-December) requires that so that wouldn't be new.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Great news! Installing it now. Thanks.

Another fingerprint scanner driver upgrade?? Hip hip horray!! Let all fingers around the globe rejoice in happiness!!
Do people actually use the fingerprint reader?? I realized all it was was a brilliant selling gimmick after using for about 1 month after purchase. After that I just realized that it was just another background resource consumer so I unloaded the device driver and uninstalled the software.
No offense to anyone that uses it thou... -

Nevermind, pae, Im using it now!! This new driver reads my finger even better, I tweaked it a bit so it massages my finger as I swipe it.. I LOVE IT!
Can't wait for the next Finger Forceware drivers to come out!! -
After doing my clone of my SSD, I uninstalled the previous version and installed v5.1 of the fingerprint reader s/w. Everything is working well and I am now about to do the backup of the passwords it stores.
Definitely a nice upgrade!
Regards,
- - Phil -
You bet!!!
YMMV...
I'm keeping mine and like using it!
No way it could be!
Regards,
- - Phil -
I just use mine to log into W7. I use either RoboForm of straight up FF for all other passwords.
-
Note the driver doesn't get updated.... just the software.
The fingerprint reader has drivers "and" extra software.
It does seem to initialize faster when I reboot... of course I haven't clocked it so that could be placebo... -
I'm having a new issue with my HP dv8t. The Intel Turbo Boost Technology Drive is not working. I have version 1.0.0.1030. The error message reads "This device cannot start (Code 10)"
I have been unable to locate a driver download on either HP's or Intel's websites. Several other HP owners are reporting this problem on the internet but no resolution is being offered or reported.
HP's Troubleshoot process was not able to correct the problem. I have run malware and antivirus full scans to verify that I do not have a virus.
I'd appreciate any suggestions you might offer. -
There is no Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver that is applicable to the DV8. The Turbo Boost Tech that is in the DV8 is inherent in the CPU and works automatically w/o need for any drivers. See Notebook — Intel Turbo Boost Technology frequently asked questions for more info.
The resolution is to uninstall any turbo boost technology driver you have erroneously installed on your machine. It doesn't work because you don't have any hardware installed that supports or needs it.
You can, however, install an Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor gadget that provides a gauge that will show you graphically when Turbo Boost is working on your machine. It's kind of cool. Available from Intel's site. -
I your installation of the driver was recent, I would simply go back to an earlier time with system restore.
If thats not a good option... uninstall it and run ccleaner to clean the registry of trace tags.......
Install the intel monitor software and it should work.
-------------------
Make sure you didn't go into msconfig and monkey with the settings at to how many cores are supposed to be active... if you did.. put that back to default too.
The number of processors in the advanced tab should be set to one. Its ok to put the timeout to zero if you want to increase bootup speed.
If you don't know what I"m talking about "msconfig", then your already set to default and you can ignore what I just said. -
As a relative Newbie, I have not messed with my settings. I did install the monitor and that suggests the Boost is working fine.
-
Then your in good shape as far as that goes.... nothing else to do.
-
A couple updates to the first post for those who need them:
08/25/2010
- Updated LightScribe System Software to version 1.18.18.1.
- Updated Intel GMA / HD Graphics driver to version 8.15.10.2189 [15.17.10(.64).2189].

Did any one try installing finger print software (Digital Personna) on HP HDX series?
I tried with multiple driver version, still DP did not recognize the installed Validity finger print device. 4.11.3805 works fine. -
PanzerHauptmann Notebook Consultant
Yea, DigitalPersonna can be pretty picky with different fingers. Sometimes, if it doesnt like ur finger it'll be stubborn at times and won't install correctly.
Or it'll give ur finger a little "zap" when scanning it..
Not to worry thou, I read somewhere the good folks at DigitaPersona are busy making a patch/fix for it..
I also read somewhere that HP's new line of notebooks are gonna have Retina scanners implemented into the WebCams... some company called DigiEyeball, an offshoot of it's parent corporation, DigialPersona. Can't wait for that one, then NOBODYS gonna hack into my laptop, unless of course they get ahold of my eyeball, kinda-sorta like in Minority Report... hrmm... -
Thanks v..e...r...y much

Don'tcha' just love the "placebo effect"?
That's probably fixed more problems than technicians have!

I installed on my HDX16-1200EO - C2D and
it works fine. Perhaps even better than before.

Update:
The new Version works also on my HDX16 with VFS201 Fingerprint Reader.
But I had to uninstall all DigitalPersona Software (including the drivers) and the Fingerprint Reader (with the checkbox setting to uninstall the drivers too) in the Device Manager on my System.
After a restart, I installed the latest drivers from first Post and after this the new Software. -
Justin hasn't put that version on the front page yet....
Yep, I had to install all 4 individually through device manager. Installing one does not update the other three.
1. JMB38X MS Host Controller
2. JMB38X SD Host Controller
3. JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller
4. JMB38X xD Host Controller
Seems all the .zip formats install that way concerning this driver. -
Here's Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver 2.1.0.2 REV: B. It's same version I posted earlier, but this package supersedes the one on the first page...

Thanks again Z3tor -- you're finding driver updates like no tomorrow! I'll put them up after I test them, which will be later today.

It's actually quite fun to hunt down latest drivers. Kinda like detective work..
Thanks for keeping em organized on one page!
I see you posted NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro/ION 259.47 WHQL drivers from Microsoft to LaptopVideo2Go forums -- Are they performing fine? Does the installer contain HDMI Audio & PhysX driver? -
08/28/2010
- Updated JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.48.1.
- Updated Intel WiFi Link driver to version 13.3.0.24.
- Added JMicron JMB38X 1394 Filter driver version 1.00.17.1.
- Updated NVIDIA graphics driver to version 8.17.12.5947 (259.47).
I'm trying the new NVIDIA graphics driver right now (they are working fine on my desktop computer). The package doesn't appear to have the HDMI Audio driver or the PhysX System Software, so you will need to get them from other/separate packages.
General NBR discussion thread for the v259.47 drivers is located here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-v259-47-whql-drivers-released-ms-update.html -
I've gone back to an HDX 18t after about a year (having had a multitude of other high-end notebooks, I still like this one, overall, the best!).
I was fooling around with getting Wireless Assistant working on it. I use BT all the time for my mouse and don't like that I can't use the touch button to turn off just the Wifi, so I thought I'd try WA.
I cannot get either the lastest (posted) version or what other HDX18 owners use (3.5.xxx) to show the correct status. WA sees both the Intel 5100 and my BT, but when I click to turn off something, it still shows it's on, and ultimately, everything is out of sync.
Any ideas? I'd like to be able to switch off just the Wifi easily, so if anyone has a Windows gadget, or some tip to get WA working, I'd appreciate it. One thing that I love about Broadcom Wifi cards is ability to set the "disable on wired connect" property, so when I plug in an ethernet cable, the Wifi automatically disables and then re-enables when I unplug! Nice...
Thanks. -
I like the Network Meter 6.3 gadget (handles either wired or wireless).
Also if you hit windows key and "X" that should bring up a windows wireless on/off switch, among other things. -
Thanks for the Windows-X tip! Although not as fancy as WA, it does work and is an easy way to turn on/off the WLAN without affecting my BT!
I also already use the Network Meter gadget. Love all of them! But, no way to turn off/on the WLAN through that. -

Yes, Intel has removed the links to the Intel WiFi downloads. I will try to post up alternative links for this version shortly.

Thanks, Justin.
Any idea why Intel took them down?

Did HP ever come up with a blu-ray player that's compatible with W7?
-
Mine works fine on my DV8.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Never heard of a compatibility issue.... only a supply issue... they bounce back and forth as to whether they are offered in their packages based on supply. -
I'm sorry, that was worded badly wasn't it. I was referring to the Cyberlinks software for watching blu-ray movies--which was rendered useless when I went from Vista to W7.
-
You can say that again. . . .
There probably is an updated version of the Cyberlinks software that came with your Vista based machine that is designed to run on W7, however, whether you are entitled to a free upgrade of this OEM software from a Vista version to a W7 version is another question. I would try to download the latest version of the software that HP offers that works with W7 and see if it will install on your machine or not. If not, there are probably some other free alternatives out there you could use instead, but I'm not sure since I don't use a BlueRay drive.
But I watch plenty of HD encoded stuff (usually BlueRay rips) using various free players. Just don't know about the BlueRay drive part. It software for it is not currently available free, I would bet it won't be much longer before it is. -
Well, I read that wrong didn't I? LOL!
I have no experience with the software you say isn't working under Win 7. Others here may have had some luck.
