Thanks for the response. Good to know the included antenna works well, at least in some areas. I'm not sure we even have over the air HDTV broadcasts in Hawaii. I never got my HP internal TV tuner to work yet. One of these days I've got to try getting it to work using Media Center instead of the HP software which never worked for me even when I connected the tuner directly to cable output.
But at least I'll know to carry the antenna with me when I visit the mainland. It could come in very handy if it works for me when I visit NYC or CT.
-
Well hopefully the Ethernet Driver helps me. I just got Cable Internet and the stupid NIC stops working randomly (just like the wifi and soundcard). I am using my Droid X w/ PDANet to get online now. How pathetic.

More updates!
A new Synaptics driver is now available that attempts to remedy the sensitivity issues. Release notes are available in the Softpaq.
10/25/2010
- Updated driver links to IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6289.0.
- Updated Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 15.1.6.64.
I'll post the new NVIDIA graphics drivers v260.99 when I can confirm that they work smoothly. -
Aloha
I too live in Honolulu and have a Sony TV with a QAM tuner which allows me to receive Over the Air HDTV. Here's the link to Oceanic's digital channel lineup (you don't need a Tivo) as long as you have their Basic/Standard cable service. Just apply the digital channels shown (you do need to have a remote control with the period (.) option to make it work.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should make some more efforts to get my DV8's HDTV card working.
On another subject, I'm finding my graphic adapter temps are tending to run a bit cooler with the latest driver which is nice, and no problems at all experienced with the new nvidia driver so far. -
They are working.
Played few hours of CS:S and GTA4 yesterday. No problems at all. -
You're welcome, Peter.
Just one follow-up. By law, essentially all TV over the air must be digital and generally HD after June '08 (approx) so you need a digital tuner for all OTA broadcasting in HI.
I can't imagine why you had trouble getting your digital tuner to work on the DV8. Did the OS recognize and load drivers for the antenna when you plugged it in? Also, keep in mind, however, that almost all HDTV is broadcast on UHF frequencies and is much more directional (line-of-sight) that older non-digital VHF signals. Not knowing what problems you had, perhaps your location is not a good one for receiving DTV. Honolulu is on Oahu? (I've never been to them but I've been to Maui several times).
Regards,
- - Phil -
Now you've got all the pieces ... HDTV is available OTA where you reside and the DV8 tuner works really well. Time to get crackin' on it!

Right but I'm not sure how to proceed now. The last time I tried, I plugged the antenna in and ran through the setup in the HP Mediasmart Live TV program and no channels were detected either with the antenna or with the cable connected (we have basic standard (non digital) cable service). So I never was able to get it working when I first attempted. I don't recall if a driver loaded or not when I plugged the antenna in but I'm sure the card was detected and I recall the software scanning for channels but not finding any.
If you could give or point me to some step by step instructions on the procedure to get it set up and working (perhaps using Windows Media Center), it would most helpful and appreciated. I seem to recall someone saying the HP software didn't work well with Win 7 x64 but perhaps that has been addressed and fixed by now.
(Honolulu is on Oahu.) -
Yes I googled it since 1pm and found that was its location. From my visits, I was fuzzy whether it was there or on Hawaii, itself.
For the HDTV - from what I recall, I plugged in the antenna and Tuner detected it as a USB device. Then I opened MediaSmart Live TV and selected USA Region, clicked continue, then selected digital (ATSC) tuner under settings. Then ran scan and got 13 channels (5 HD).
My best guess would be that you didn't pick ATSC for the broadcast standard. If you didn't pick ATSC, you won't pick up anything except in Canada where they haven't mandated the change to digital yet.
Hope that helps....
Regards,
- - Phil -
Yes, thanks, I'll give it another try following those instructions a bit later on when I get a chance.
Right now I'm working on configuring and playing around with what many think is the latest greatest free software multimedia player, which is called "Daum PotPlayer." It's created and developed by the original author of The KM Player who has moved on after selling The KM Player for a tidy sum a few years ago. (Btw, an interesting (to me at least) bit of trivia is that "KM" from The KM Player stands for Korean Multimedia (I think).) -
Hope that ATSC was the problem and you find it works the next time.
Regards,
- - Phil -
I certainly hope they work perfect or we will never hear the end of it!... LOL!
-
I installed the 64bit version... installed perfect... much less foo foo when you tell it to keep you current configuration for sure.
Performance Score was interesting.. dropped in one area .1 but raised in gaming the same

That's encouraging to hear, Alan .... I hope my upgrade goes as well. I have far less experience upgrading drivers than you do. Ha!-ha!

LOL!... is that smiley face that turns its head all the way around supposed to be the demonized girl in the exorcist?

One of the best things about the new display driver for me is that my GPU is running a few degrees cooler, but it seems very good in all other respects including upclocking and downclocking very responsively. These nvidia drivers just keep getting better and better, imo.

It could be ... sure has some similarities.
I upgraded to nVidia 260.99 successfully so you can resume breathing now!
From the writeup on it, it may offer some improvements for some gamers.

Cooler is good!
I'm sold! ... I decided to upgrade my display card driver after a year.
Glad you like it!

School has been taking over my life, and it's been stressful on my side.
Just spent a couple minutes to post some important updates, including the updated BIOS release for Intel dv6 Gen 2 and dv7 Gen 3 notebooks. That NVIDIA graphics driver update is now up, as well as two newer versions of the JMicron card reader driver.
10/28/2010
- Updated BIOS for dv6-2xxx and dv7-3xxx to version F.1D.
- Updated NVIDIA graphics driver to version 8.17.12.6099 (260.99) / 1.1.9.0 (HDMI Audio) / 9.10.0514 (PhysX).
- Updated JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.49.0.
- Updated JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.50.2 (thanks Z3tor).
-
Congrats!.......
Time to celebrate...... Have a cool one on me!... I'll pay! -
Hi,
justinkw1 please update Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SATA AHCI) to 10.0.0.1046 through intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci -
Right behiend you Phil!! It's been a long time for me too!
-
Make a note of this day, Alan! It may be a long time before it happens again!
So far, so good.
Regards,
- - Phil -
One cautionary note... I haven't noticed anything that is either better or worse than the 197.16 version I upgraded from.
I guess the gamers are happy though.
Regards,
- - Phil -
I installed that driver... I went just fine.
I did have to take out the name "www.station-drivers.com" from the downloaded filename because windows didn't recognize that site as an ok site to open files from.
Once expanded.... "DPInst.exe" is the executable to doubleclick on.. it will install and reboot.
If you check device manager, you will confirm it updated under "Ide ATA/Itapi controllers
underneath, you will see "Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller".. doubleclick to open to do the driver tab and see the version. "10.0.0.1046"
Also updated "JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.50.2".
It also installs fine, but remember this one is the one you have to install from device manager and browse to the appropriate directory.... each of the 4 drivers in device manager have to be updated separately.
The setup executable doesn't work ........
Makes me nervous.. you would think someone that knew how to make a driver could also make an executable that worked.... "how long has this been an issue?.... too long!" -
JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver 1.0.50.2 installer worked just fine for me. No need to install every driver separately via device manager.
For now, there's no official source for Intel RST 10.0.0.1046. Station Drivers does not count for official source, so Justin will not add it to firs page. The driver itself is WHQL, so it should be safe to install though
-
Too weird... I always have to do them seperately....
This is the error I get.. first I run setup and the setup window comes up.. when I continue I get:

Does this updated driver offer any improvements that you can tell us about, Alan?
Enhance performance of our SSDs in the DV8?
Regards,
- - Phil -
That error occurs when you have Data Execution Prevention running. Try to set DEP policy to optout JMicron installer.
To configure DEP settings
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
2.Click the Advanced tab. Then, under Performance, click Settings.
3.Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4.Click Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only to select the OptIn policy.
5.Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select to select the OptOut policy.
6.If you selected the OptOut policy, click Add and add the applications that you do not want to use DEP with. -
Intel RST 10.0.0.1046 should have some improvements for SSD users. Thats what i read from some forums while i was hunting down official download source...
I don't have SSD, so cant say for sure.
-
I wonder what those improvements might be. :confused2: Thanks!
Regards,
- - Phil -
don't know... I installed it and my performance scores are unchanged and my 3D scores bumped up 2 points.. but that doesn't mean much.... -
Certainly better than having them go down. I thought maybe Z3Tor might have known what was changed regarding the SSDs.
Looks like they are older than the one's on Justin's list.... according to the source site, they're dated 5/13/10 and Justin's are dated 6/21/10 (even though the version numbers are lower). Strange.

Looks like the IDT HD Audio driver removed several days ago is now up again! Links have been updated. Also added version 6292 as a previous release for everyone's convenience.
10/30/2010
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec to version 6.10.6292.0.
- Updated driver links to IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6300.0.

Apologies to those (particularly, Alan) affected by this series of messages on DigitalPersonal working with Chrome... It has some working components but not in a useful way.
My testing of the fingerprint reader was not complete apparently.
When I tested, I swiped my fingerprint at a login screen. The DP Manager opened a window to enroll a login and, after doing so, it transferred the login info to the browser login window. I presumed that meant all was working. I went back to the same site today and found I had to repeat the ENTIRE procedure and that means DP add-on isn't yet working. Not yet ready for prime time, sorry to say!
DP still has some work to do.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Thanks, I appreciate the update...... I think I'll still keep using Chrome though..... I got by before without persona and they admit they are working on the problem so it should be functional soon.
Chrome is a new tool... it takes a bit to learn where everything is, but its lightening fast in every way.... with the DNS prefetching seems it knows where you are going before you go there so when you click on something its like pulling it off your hardrive "imagine that!... since thats exactly whats happening!... LOL!".
I imported all my bookmarks and passwords and its mean and lean for sure.
I'm giving it an honest chance to work... but still keeping my FF in case I need to do something Chrome won't do due to an addin.
I managed to load a cool theme I like so it doesn't look so cold..... It really gives you the full screen for browsing.. very nice! -
Good, Glad you're liking it, Alan. It's amazing how Google can develop and release it with such a wide range of improvements!
Hope DP comes through with its part soon.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Looks like IDT 6.10.6300.0 has been removed again by HP. The link is not working anymore.
-
but why? i installed .6300. long time ago and works fine.
-
I'm not sure that HP ever explains such things so I guess we're left to speculate, eh?

Some interesting observations I made with the Intel Chipset Driver Installer (on my HDX on Win7):
- INF-Files installed by the ancient version on the HP site (9.0.0.1011 – July 16 2008):
- dmi_pci.inf (High Precision Event Timer / PCI Bridge)
- ich9core.inf (LPC Interface Controller / Thermal Subsystem / PCI Express Root Port)
- ich9smb.inf (SMBus Controller)
- ich9usb.inf (USB Universal Host Controller)
- pm45gm45.inf (Chipset Processor to DRAM Controller / Chipset PCI Express Root Port)
- INF-Files installed by the version here (9.1.2.1008 – June 17 2010):
- ibexsmb.inf (SMBus Controller)
How comes? - INF-Files installed by the ancient version on the HP site (9.0.0.1011 – July 16 2008):
-
again the link to IDT sound driver isn't working, looks like HP took it down again.
-
Did u install it with -overall command?
