Here's the release notes for Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.0.0.1046 if someone wants to take a look...

IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6300.0. / 5.10.6300.0 is back on HP ftp server.

Still no sign of Atheros WLAN driver 9.1.0.328 on HP ftp server. Html and cva files are there, but the installer is missing..
(See my post 1721 on page 173)
-
32-bit version is also available - I'll post these up when I have some time.
Unfortunately these new IDT audio drivers do not support these notebooks. The device IDs listed in this release are for HP's business line. -
Hay..
I got a new laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-3177ee) .. It comes with Bluetooth version 3.0
I was actually glad about that .. until I tried to connect my nokia phone with my laptop by (PC Suite or OVI Suite)
both of the applications didn't recognize that there is a Bluetooth in the laptop..
although when I try to send a file from/to the phone its sent fine.
the blutooth device name is :
Ralink/Motorola BC4 Bluetooth 3.0 + HS Adapter
I think its from the BT driver (I updated the driver from hp site).. Its not like any of my previous laptops that has BT in them..
is there another way to make Windows 7 (x64 ) realize that I have a traditional BT that can connect to my phone through their applications.
Thanks in advance -
Yes, you can test it yourself.
Add "-AONLY" so the files just get extracted and use "-P <path>" to specify a different folder were the files should be extracted and see for yourself. -

Thanks Z3tor, I'm keeping track of the updates that I need to post up but I've been really busy - I'll try to get everything up by this weekend at the latest.
-
Spit it out, Alan! What's on your mind?
Regards,
- - Phil -
Thought I had a issue with that 6300 driver but I don't think its related.... sometimes my internet turns off all by itself.. sometimes the volume adjust screen pops up when it happens, sometimes not.
I've gone back to previous drivers "didn't fix", reinstalled everything related to quickbuttons and internet.
Now it only does it occasionally and seems to be related to whether I have FF open or not.....
I suspect Glary's removed something from the registry.. so after I have reloaded everything I"m not running glary's registry clean to see if that fixes it. -
Intel Chipset Device Software 9.2.0.1015 released by HP. It's tageted for desktop 6 Series/C200 Series chipset family but installed just fine with -overall parameter. Quess what... it does not update anything for 5 series chips.

Had no idea that was what the various "faces" meant. I thought that driver wasn't for DV8s ... If that's correct, did you not know that beforehand or why did you install it?
Do you use the network card or the wi-fi to access the internet?
Popped in or restored your clone yet? If it was made before your problem started, it should remove it.
Regards,
- - Phil -
I didn't know it wasn't for the dv8
I use the wi-fi to access.
All else fails I can use my clone........
I would rather find the issue If I can just so I know how to not recreate it.... -
Sorry, Alan ... Since Justin mentioned it and it was noted in the cva, I thought you might have been "experimenting."
Wi-fi is the one that seems to be 'touchy" and sensitive to all sorts of issues in hardware and software.
I see ... I thought you had reached the "if all else fails" point so it was time to restore a clone.
Regards,
- - Phil -
yep... just got tired of messing with it now.
I did a 'system restore" to 10-18-10 and it still did it... so I restored my C drive from my ghost clone of the same date "10-18-10" and all is working perfect!
Goes to show you... "system restore" ain't all its cracked up to be"
Anyway.. all I've done so far is update my video drivers and all seems well... next is FF... I am going to go slow and get things back to an updated status, hopefully I can either find the problem or simply avoid it this time... like I said.. for all I know Glary's could be the culprit....
I can watch my wifi signal with my phone via "wifi analyzer" so I know its good.
Anyway...enough boring everyone about my issues... thats why I deleted my initial post.
Yay Ghost! -

JMicron ftp download links for Card Reader and 1394 Filter drivers have changed. Here are are the correct links:

Stange. It updated like 15 things for me and i had already previous update installed. maybe something went wrong with your overall command?
start ... run ... C:\inf\Setup.exe -OVERALL and ENTER. -
Yes, it installs a bunch of drivers but they are version 9.1.1.1022 which is ancient.
-
Sounds like some files were damaged beyond the purview of System Restore which seems to focus on system files, registry, and prior installations.
I have always made system restore points before installing or upgrading anything. Don't recall ever having them resolve a subsequent issue tho' but YMMV.
I'm glad your experience confirms the value of Ghost clones in saving everything you may need to get a problem repaired.
As far as putting updates and stuff back on, I just can't live with (or afford) 'going back' 3 weeks to get everything going and up-to-date after a problem so that's why I do a clone every Saturday morning (or before doing any updates, etc.), and then run from it for the following week.
That way I find any problem with the clone (never happens but it makes sleeping at night easier!) before I am depending on the clone being 'good".
Regards,
- - Phil -
Oh. Didnt see that. What are the latest ones then ?
-
It installs nothing as your system is up to date, look in the log.
-
There are no newer.
-
That was exactly my point. Nothing new in 9.2.0.1015 (at least for 5 series). But what the heck, 9.1.1.1022 is working just fine.
-
Well i"m still trying to figure out what made my hp smartmenu
keep popping up my volume controls and cutting my wifi off and on.
Almost thinking the on and off issue was the controls freaking out... almost like I"m putting my finger on the wifi and manually turning it on and off even though I wasn't.
All I know if after I ghosted back to 10-18 all is well and has remained well.
Now I"m nervous about such trivial updates as the smartmenu I'm using is a rather old one and may not be compatible with some of the newest versions of drivers. -
Being a procedure guy as you know I am, Alan, I wonder if you keep a log of the sequence and dates you installed the drivers originally since 10-18? Then you could just install each one in the that sequence and see when the schizophrenic volume and Wi-Fi controls start acting up?
Regards,
- - Phil -
Pray and hope that it isn't the same thing that a TON of HDX18 users experience!!!
-
In my experience its when the touch strip starts collecting oil and dirt that it starts acting weird, a quick swipe with a alcohol pad across the entire strip seems to cure it for a few weeks for me. Usually its just the WiFi that will turn itself off and on about 6 times a second, not anything else.
-
Hummmmmmmmm... you may be onto something!
Mine started freaking out again and I have updated nothing!
I even ran malwarebytes and it came up totally empty with nothing!
I just got some Mr. Clean and cleaned my bar and it hasn't acted up once yet... not 5 minutes ago it was freaking out.... with the volume controls popping up on the screen and flashing off and on and the wifi turning itself off.
thanks!... I'll let you know if this continues to work.... it could be that the capacitance controls are too sensitive to oils etc covering up the sensors. -
Humm.. encouraging.. still no problems......
this is valuable info if this is the issue... a poor person can rip out drivers, load new, try different versions, mess with system restore...rip their system all apart, when all along its not even a software issue "well maybe shouldn't be so sensitive" but rather hardware with matter on the sensors.
Having a jet black computer, I'm sure its hard to tell just how dirty it is over the bar.
More than 9 out of ten... even more than 99 out of a hundred, but more like 999 times out of 1000 is it software or operator error.......
How common is it for something such as this to throw you for a loop?
Silly things like this could be why they stopped making the DV8T.
Knowing what I know about tech support, I'm sure HP lost more money than they made with the DV8T.... as great as it is... it was most likely was not profitable for HP dealing with silly issues such as this.
I can only imagine how many hours of tech support HP burnt up troubleshooting this very issue when all along it was something so simple.
How may people did a complete wipe and system restore losing all their many hours of configurations?
Thank God for Ghost and similar programs.. but the vast majority of folks have no clue about such programs or how to use them but depend that HP knows what they are doing when their 9.00/hr techs tell them to overwrite their whole system with the HP system restore disk.......
I can only imagine how much customer fan base was lost from this very issue.
Seems sometimes they never figure out what the issue is and simply fix it by letting the whole computer go and move on.
I've seen Toyota do the same thing with HID lights.. finally rather than fix the issue they moved on to Halogen.
Some companies are so big and massive they are like the one eyed ogre that knows not at what they stumble. -
Glad you're onto a treatment for this, Alan. It'll be more and more interesting if it stays "fixed" over a longer time than a few hours.
While it is likely that many have had this issue, I've not seen so many posts here about it. When I had it back in February, driver updates took care of it so maybe it's not all caused by finger oil on the controls.
Certainly an understandable speculation ..
I don't have enough information on which to base any comment on the profitability of DV8 for HP except to express doubt that you do, either. LOL!
I can agree that HP support has not got the best qualified folks to help people with their computer problems, much less the smarts to deal with this type of problem.
Amen for Ghost!

- - Phil -
BTW, Alan, I found something you may want to try. I find it to be faster and more effective - SuperAntiSpyware. (Of course, it's free!
) I found it worked on one "affliction" that MBAM didn't lay a glove on.
Ever try it? SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Regards,
- - Phil -
thanks for the reminder.. I used to use that and actually bought it.. can't remember why I finally tossed it..... could be causes I never had an issue that my Nod32 didn't find first anyway.. not sure.
I have a friends machine that was infested with about 170 thinks.. one of which was coolwebsearch which can be a pain to remove manually.
Malwarebytes got it, but prob good to use superantispyware too... I remember all the geeks like it is why I used it. -
Been two days now.. so far so good!
I use an older version of HP smartmenu.. don't know if thats the issue.. but thats the version that seems to work best for clean installs as the later versions need original components to work that you loose with a fresh install. -
I didn't see Nod32 but certainly don't want AV to conflict with AS/AM. Glad you've tried anyway. I have MBAM but prefer the speed of SAS.
Regards,
- - Phil -
It was a few hours yesterday and it's 2 days 8 hours later?
In any case, glad it's working better. I'm still using the original version of SmartMenu and that may be why I've never had the problem since update my nVidia driver to 197.16 in Feb.
Regards,
- - Phil -
You either have to run SAS run as on demand only "not real time" or tell Nod to disregard the executable for SAS and tell SAS to disregard and not scan the executable for NOD... otherwise you get double duty "realtime".
Your system is fast enough you may not even notice, but that will choke lesser systems. -
Yes, I run SAS on demand and use Spyware
Doctor "active" to detect new stuff which I remove with SAS. Have never seen any slowdown on my setup from AV or interaction between AV and AS/AM.

Can someone refresh my memory and tell me how you know if you the intel chipset got installed?
I ran the exectable and also tried it with these instructions:
Install seemed to go well however when I look in device manager it doesn't reflect that I just did in system devices\Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 8 - 3B50
---------------
edit... seems everyone is having the same issue:
-
Can someone explain what the JMicron JMB38X 1394 Filter is?
I've always updated the regular drivers but don't recall filters and couldn't find them in device manager. -
Do we really want this?......
here are the models it says it supports:
Support models ThinkPad T410, T410i, T410s, T410si
ThinkPad T510, T510i
ThinkPad W510
ThinkPad X201, X201i, X201s, X201 Tablet
ThinkPad W701,W701ds
</pre> -
I think we can ignore that, since RST has general support for all Intel 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller and Intel ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/5 Series SATA RAID Controller devices.
JMicron JMB38X 1394 Filter is FireWire bus device driver. http://www.jmicron.com/JMB38X.html -

I think you're checking the right places, Alan. Most likely there was no applicable update in the package you installed. FWIW, I check such things before I attempt an install.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Not likely, Alan. I have no reason to think we would. In any case, I would certainly wait till Justin weighs in on it.
Regards,
- - Phil -
I don't believe we need it for the DV8 card reader, Alan. I wouldn't install it IMO.

- - Phil -
Hi Phil. I noticed that you have the Intel Wifi 6200 AGN with BT. I have the original Intel 5100 in my DV8T with BT. BT is separate from the 5100 I think. My question is did you have any problem with BIOS whitelist when you upgraded to the 6200 and is BT completely separate from the 6200? I am toying with the idea of upgrading, although to be honest my 5100 is working perfectly.
Thanks, -
I had no problem with the BIOS and the Intel WLAN driver immediately loaded for the 6200AGN. BT (HP#577000-001) is separate from the WLAN card. I like the 6200 better as it uploads faster than the 5100. For about $50 it seems like a good upgrade to get the full and final N version compliant hardware.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
- - Phil -
Much appreciated. Thank you Phil.
