it's really cyberlink, not hp, who develop MediaSmart software. try re-installing the tuner driver from an administrator cmd prompt. it might help.

Hi, has anyone noticed some portion of the monitor more dark than the rest?
I've this problem in the bottom left portion of the monitor.
If you have an uniform color as desktop background image you can see better the effect.
I know this really isn't a problem, and that usually many LCD monitors have this flaw due to the not so uniform lightness provided by the beneath lamp, I just want to know what do you think...
Uhm not only bottom left portion, but from all the left portion to the right, just in the bottom is more accentuated. -
Can someone tell me the correct order in which the required drivers should be installed. I am attempting to do a clean install with Windows XP because I cannot stand Vista's myriad issues. I have the HDX16T. Thanks!

I usually go graphics card first, so you can use the display's native resolution for the rest of the installs, then I do the chipset drivers and SATA controller, then go by what's most important down from there.
Just do them one at a time, because most won't allow 2 installers running at the same time. -
:sigh:
As per advice from Intel, AMD, and the mobo/laptop makers......
System drivers should be installed from the lowest level hardware up to the highest. CPU (if necessary, usually AMD) and chipset drivers first. Then disk controllers. Then get your disk volumes set up properly (raid, achi, etc).
These drivers might or might not call out for system reboots. If so, don't put it off. Don't assume that you know better than the driver writers do. Particularly in the case of chipset and disk controller drivers, all it takes is one incompatibility and you're back to booting from DVD for a fresh install.
Now network. If you are setting up a windows machine, you might want to take this time to go to MU and make sure the currently installed drivers and OS components are up to date.
Now you can do the fluffy things like sound and video. Even the base Win7 video driver will fill out a 19x12 video screen so there is no reason to push the installation of manufacturer-specific video drivers ahead of the chipset and disk controllers.
Doing things in a safe sequence won't take any more time than cutting shortcuts. Shortcuts expose you to the potential of a fatal OS crash, running through your drivers in a safe sequence does not.
Side note: you can bet that the driver library on the Win7 retail DVDs is already out of date. With all of the activity on the Intel, AMD, NVidia, and mobo maker support sites it's unlikely that current drivers made it onto the RTM DVD when it was frozen several weeks ago. -

Now playing: The Prodigy - Fighter Beat
via FoxyTunes -
Nevermind, all I had to do was uninstall the driver from Device Manager first!
DUH!! -
Hey rageman,
Any luck on a solution for the bass/treb slider dilema?
Mine's goofed up as well. -
I even uninstalled the IDT Drivers from Device Manager and then Deleted the IDT Folders as you did and nothing.
I am still adjusting the bass/treble through Windows Sound Control.
Sucks. Bring me back to the On-Screen Volume and EQ settings please!! -
Two updates -- MediaSmart MVP version 3.0 for Windows 7 as well as updated TV tuner drivers (explanation below). Every driver/software listed on the original post is now compatible with Windows 7, most of them officially designated as such.
The MediaSmart 3.0 suite is now posted in its entirety (with the exception of SlingPlayer).
10/17/2009
- Updated MediaSmart MVP to version 3.0.3123 for Windows 7.
- Renamed "HP Integrated Analog/Digital TV Tuner" to "HP ATSC/Analog TV Tuner, HP DVB-T/Analog TV Tuner."
- Updated HP ATSC/Analog TV Tuner, HP DVB-T/Analog TV Tuner driver to version 1.3.0.76 for Windows Vista/7 x86 and version 1.3.64.76 for Windows Vista/7 x64.
The original post has since been updated to more reflect the names of the actual TV tuner hardware in use. This new TV tuner driver supports multiple AVermedia products, namely the following: A317, A316, A309, and A328 -- the A317 and A316 are likely the TV tuners that are integrated into the notebooks, thus I only posted the driver version numbers for these two. Please let me know how this driver is working for you -- I cannot test this since I don't have an integrated TV tuner in my notebook. Don't install this if your notebook does not have an integrated TV tuner provided by HP.
(Off-topic, but a fun fact: Based on documentation, the four AVermedia TV tuners listed above are code-named after current and former American TV game show hosts -- Richard Dawson, Bob Barker, Pat Sajak, and Richard Karn, respectively.)

I'm beginning to think this may be a problem regarding the order in which drivers are installed - not a problem witht he drivers themselves.
Very frustrating that this is as complicated as it is...
Oh, keep in mind that I am running W7 ultimate X64 (final from Technet). Maybe the process isn't the same for Vista/XP. I don't know - I'm just happy mine is working. Thanks everyone! -
Well I just discovered that the volume bass and treble slider OSD is indead working on my PC, just not with WMP11....
I now recall reading somewhere about those issues, but at the time it wasn't a problem for me.
Now if I could only figure out what setting I changed on my PDA to get back my internet connectivity.... man so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I am pleased to announce that this driver thread will now support all Intel-based dv8 notebooks. Almost everything driver-wise about the dv8 is identical, with the exception of the BIOS releases. The original post has been modified to accommodate for this slight difference.
With that said, I'd like to thank future dv8 notebook users as well as current HDX16 and HDX18 users for making this thread so resourceful and informational.
10/18/2009
- Added support for the Intel-based dv8 notebook to this driver thread.
- Added BIOS for dv8 version F.05 E.
- Changed "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT and NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M" to "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M."

On Avermedia website I can't find an updated driver for my A309. -
I just did a clean install of 64-bit Windows 7. I installed the MediaSmart Menu and Quick Launch buttons and I still cannot ge tthe keyboard volume controls to work. Helppppp
EDIT: I can increase and decrease the volume from the keyboard, but I do not have an on-screen display of the volume or bass or treble actually moving up or down. -
-
Honestly, it's ridiculous how the TV tuner drivers are packaged. -
I could not extract the single exe files though...anyway...those silent setups are horrible. Will keep the old driver for now.
I still can't install SmartMenu v3, I'm still using v2 in order to have the volume/treble/bass gui to show up.
HP has a lot of work to do... -
Don't use SmartMenu v3...use v2 (sp42238.exe - HP MediaSmart SmartMenu v2.10), with this one and Quick Launch (sp45058 - HP Quick Launch Buttons v6.50.5.1) the gui for volume and bass&treble works for me. -
Thanks a ton Axel!! I really would love to have the bass/treble sliders working again as well as the on-screen display! -
Okay, disreguard post above!
Looks like I found the SmartMenu v2 that Axel was talking about!
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42001-42500/sp42238.exe
I am going to install them as soon as I finish downloading them.
Also, the Quick Launch Axel is referring to is on the first page of this thread. -
UPDATE: Worked Perfect!!
Thanks Axel Foley!! Go Detroit! -
Also for those that want to improve the functionality of the Sliders and remove the clicking sound follow this guide.

After deeply analyzing the drivers and software required, I am pleased to announce that this driver thread will also support all Intel-based dv6 Quad Edition (2xxx series) and dv7 Quad Edition (3xxx series) notebooks. Like the dv8, almost everything driver-wise is identical, with the exception of the BIOS releases. The original post has been modified again to accommodate for this difference.
Because the driver threads (including this one) are growing too large to be organized in the current format, I am planning on reorganizing the original post to more of a table-based format. A lot of new ideas that were suggested could now be implemented. For example, one idea that was appealing to me was the fact that brief descriptions should be added for each driver or software entry -- this will now be possible (although it would be greatly appreciated if assistance is provided due to my schedule). Another idea is to provide indicators as to which drivers should be installed first or to designate importance.
With these things said, welcome dv6 and dv7 Quad Edition owners and thanks in advance for visiting and contributing!
10/19/2009
- Added support for the Intel-based dv6-2xxx Quad Edition and dv7-3xxx Quad Edition series to this driver thread.
- Changed "Realtek RTL8168C Gigabit Ethernet/LAN" to "Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller"
- Added BIOS for dv6-2xxx and dv7-3xxx version F.04 A.

The keyboard volume sliders still don't work for me. I installed the older version of mediasmart. When I installed it, I never got a display screen saying it installed successfully, it opened a command box. But it is on my computer and in the program files. Quick launch buttons installed correctly. I don't get why this won't flipping work, the buttons are there for a reason and I want to use them.
-
-
Then reboot, and install QuickLaunch first and then MediaSmart v2.
Let me know how it goes... -
-
Okay, I've did some major updates to the On-Screen Displays Guide.
Thanks again to Axel for all his knowledge!! -
Well, let's hope it works for Petrags...otherwise you need to change it again...
-
Let us know Petrags! -
OK, it works now. I had to run the double-click the mediasmart menu shortcut, then I tried the sliders. Mediasmart menu closed and Windows told me it wasn't working, then it applied compatibility settings and it works. Will I always have to open mediasmart to see the on-screen display? Will that other guide work for me with iTunes? That sounds cool.
Thanks for the help guys. -
And yeah, this guide should set you up w/ the iTunes. -
Cool. Hopefully SendSpace will come back online because I can't download the fix file.

Here is the file you need. The mmkeys.dll

Here are the sound files as well in case you couldn't get those.

rageman and axel foley, thanks big time. and time4fun, that guide was awesome. being able to control itunes from the keyboard is sweet. thanks fellas

Justin, I'd suggest you publish the old one (sp44320) for Vista and add this one specifically for W7.
As for the system requirements note: HP ProtectSmart requires Intel Matrix Storage Manager, so be sure you have install it first (the version in the notes is the minimum version), even if you don't have a raid controller.
Cheers... -
I've opened an Owners Lounge for the new HP dv8 users.
I've linked this thread for drivers for the HP dv8 line as well. -
I have another question! When I hit caps or num lock, I do not see the notification in the bottom right that it's on or off. I used to. Any ideas?
-
As for the Num Lock, I just try to keep mine always on.
Not sure if I ever had a on-screen display for notifying me when those two buttons were pressed. -
-
opps, wrong thread!!
