The only thing I could think of adding would be the date the drivers where released and the previous versions # and possible link.
Although, you may be planning on adding that info at the bottom of the original post.![]()
-
Maybe something like this if the dates will fit in that box nicley. Seem to for this driver, but w/ other versions be longer names not sure if it'd work.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

The dates seem like a good idea, but I might have to omit the previous versions for now at least (this is called a "Latest drivers" thread for a reason
).
I had to readjust the column widths again -- I'm trying to accommodate lower screen resolutions as well. Having a 1280x800 (which I have) or a 1366x768 screen resolution makes it very hard for the text in each row to not wrap around -- I might have to start truncating linked text.
Edit: Or maybe I should just let the text wrap -- there are so many resolutions to support that I guess I'll have to go with more of an in-between width that tries to fit everyone as best as possible... -
The only driver I installed from HP is QuickTouch, that's it.
The rest... Windows 7 Updates. -
I was just wondering. I'm in the middle of upgrading my mom's laptop to Windows 7...
Now my main concern is getting the IDT, Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, Digital Persona, JMicron, etc.
Now when I was in the Beta/RC all I had to do on my HDX 18t was go to the HP website, look up my model number, download, and install the drivers.
However when I did the clean install for my the main desktop I was completely unable to install any drivers from HP's own website. Instead I kept getting an error "9998"
I tried calling HP to get help and figure out what it means but they wouldn't tell me anything since the desktop was out of the 1 year warranty. They said I HAD to PAY them to get any type of tech support...which is absolutely ridiculous IMO.
Anyways does anyone know if I'll have the same issue with my mom's dv5t?
Most importantly has anyone run across this error? And if so how do you fix it?
lancorp your expertise is most welcome here.... -
You may want to go over to the dv5t driver thread and ask the users there if any problems came up during their Windows 7 driver installations -- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874. Aside from that, you should not have a problem installing any of the devices you mentioned above. I believe the drivers in both this thread and in the dv5t driver thread will work (the driver packages are pretty much the same).
-
Justin, are you going to keep track of the generic hardware drivers from Intel, AMD/ATi, and Nv??
-
Yes -- I had been doing this since I started these driver threads. For example, the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility contains generic INFs. The NVIDIA GeForce drivers currently posted for Windows Vista and Windows 7 are from Microsoft Update, which use a generic INF too.
There are some drivers that only have specific support for these notebooks however (and excludes all other notebooks), so it's not expected that all of the components on the original post will have generic drivers. -
Well, to be honest, my HDX 18t has been running Windows 7 (nicely) for a while, and I haven't needed to update or install any of the stuff from links on the HP website. So...I don't know about the error 9998 you are getting!
Does this seem like a new problem (like all of the sudden they are not installing)??
Is the error a Windows error or an HP website error?
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I have not experienced the problem. -
Hey guys...
First, I want to thank everyone who is making this thread easier to deal with
Plus, thanks for the great solutions written here for different issues.
I had a problem getting the touch panel work under windows 7, but with the solutions provided, everything worked just fine. But i still want to make sure about few things. After installing Quick Launch Buttons (6.50.5.1) and MediaSmart Smart Menu (SP42238), all buttons worked fine, but i noticed the following:
1. When touching any button, it doesn't produce the click sound (bu it shows an on screen display notification).
2. The MediaSmart Smart Menu (version 2x) only detected 4 utilities; MediaSmart Music, MediaSmart Videos, MediaSmart Photos and -i think- MediaSmart TV. But currently i have MediaSmart DVD, MediaSmart Live TV, MediaSmart Webcam and MediaSmart Internet TV which are not detected by MediaSmart Menu version 2, I have to start any of them from the start menu. Is it possible for MediaSmart Menu version 2 to detect them all? I know some of the other utilities are version 3 (for windows 7). Well, the versions i have are:
MediaSmart DVD version 3.0.3123
MediaSmart Internet TV version 3.0.1916
MediaSmart Live TV version 3.0.1924
MediaSmart Movie Themes version 3.0.3102
MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video version 3.0.3123
MediaSmart Webcam version 3.0.1913
And CURRENTLY, am using MediaSmart SmartMenu version 3.0.30.1 (Am using this one right now because i want all the utilities to be detected through the SmartMenu, and as it was discussed before, Eject button doesn't work, Treble and Bass work if i have the Tone Control Utility, but the on screen display is messed up for those). If i want all the buttons to work i know i have to install MediaSmart Menu version 2, but as i said earlier, version 2 only detects 4 programs. Is there a solution for that?
Thanks in advance. -
There ist a new LIGHTSCRIBE SYSTEM SOFTWARE driver since October 16, 2009
Revision 1.18.9.1
http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/windows/index.aspx?id=810 -
Thanks Biker321, just put it up on the original post.
-
Awesome thread.
In relation to the Validity Fingerprint drivers + DigitalPersona posted on page 1, those are, as far as I know, WDF (Windows Driver Framework) drivers & software which work on both Vista and 7.
If you want to use the WBF (Windows Biometric Framework) driver model (i.e. the new one which comes with Win 7), there are beta WBF drivers at the Validity website: http://www.validityinc.com/post.aspx?id=186
Note that if you choose to use the WBF drivers, you will only get fingerprint reader functionality for log-on purposes. However, you will get to use the "Biometric Devices" applet in Control Panel.
Kind regards -
Just got my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate installed!
Getting the drivers and such....this thread is a lifesaver. Thanks to the opening poster and all contributors so far. -
Ok, so just so I am clear... I am doing clean installs on my HDX18 and HDX16...
just let W7 install and then install all the drivers listed on page one or see which ones are missing?
Seems like Lancorp did the clean install and didnt need to install the HP drivers? -
Not true at all...I haven't updated my HDX18 for a while, but back when I did install Win7 on it, there certainly were devices that needed updating using HP drivers.
-
ok, thanks! i just don't want to have the vista nightmares from updates past!!
i REALLY appreciate this thread - the updates - and all the tips!! -
There are at least 6 drivers that are not installed by Windows Update after a scratch installation.
So those are needed...and even if WU installs some drivers, I advise to disable WU driver installation and use the drivers we find and test.
-
Just found an updated Synaptics touchpad driver from HP:
Here's the link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45848.exe
I didn't have time to test if it also works on HDX series, I'll try to test them later, if someone else can test now please post if it installs correctly so we can update the official list.
Thanks.
-
Hey Axel or one of the guys who's updating the drivers...on HP's website there's a driver for something called the Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 7
Is that necessary to download? How come it's not on the front page with all the others?
Lastly if you have the Intel Wifi 5100 AGN do you need to download it or will cause any issues if you do download it?
Everything else is smooth and stable here though otherwise. Thanks a lot for all the links and the information. -
AFAIK, the HDX series use Intel wireless cards (5100 and 5300) so Broadcom drivers are not needed.
If HP put those drivers on the page probably some newer HDX models use the broadcom chipsets, but it's not our case I guess.
As a general rule I would always recommend to know what hardware you have before installing a driver.
-
Thanks Axel, I've known about the new Synaptics drivers for some time now but I've been pretty busy the past few days. I will be verifying the product support and hopefully will put this up shortly.
From what I know, the HDX16 and HDX18 series does not use Broadcom wireless LAN (the dv6 and dv7 Quads don't either for that matter). However, HP might be putting in Intel WiFi Link 1000 adapters for some models instead -- I'll update the title to reflect this. -
Original post now updated.
10/28/2009
- Added LSI (Agere) High Definition Audio Modem driver version 2.2.97.0.
- Updated Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 14.0.9.5 (thanks dannyres)
- Renamed "Intel WiFi Link 5100" to "Intel WiFi Link."
-
This is my first post and i want to thank you for the big job you are doing.
I installed yesterday all the drivers from le first page for my new Win7 Install. I have problems with the SoftTouchButtons of my HDX-16 HP Notebook. Some of the Buttons wouldn't work. The Treble/Bass +/- Bar as well as the DVD-Ejekt Button wouldn't react to touch. Do you habe an idea how to solve the problem?
Thanks you in advance
RTT -
Yeah, we all went through that. HP disabled the Bass/Treble sliders and the On-Screen-Display as well. A lot of people were having troubles w/ those.
BUT.......Have no fear, if you'd like those options back (As I and I'm sure many others have done) you can use this guide !!
Axel Foley (another great user on here) was a HUGE help in figuring this out, and I just wanted to post a guide because I knew others would want the On-Screen-Display and the Bass/Treble Function back ON!
So go here and follow the directions and let us know how it goes!

All HP driver threads have been updated with a new version of the Quick Launch Buttons.
10/29/2009
- Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.7.1.
-
Thanks for the answers and the new quick touch driver. I did the steps as metioned in the guide and tried also with the new driver. The problem with the dvd ejekt-button and the treble/bass +/- bar is already present. All other touch buttons runs.
-
Not sure I follow...
So you've followed the guide and the Bass/Treble sliders are not showing up on the "On-screen-display??"
Just so you know, your eject button will not work w/ that guide.
Were you sure to delete the folders as described in the thread. Don't get the new Drivers from this forum for those 2, get them in the Guide (has the direct link). -
Oh and also running the new driver like you did, well it probably un-did anything in that guide!
Re-do the guide, forget about the eject button ever working, and you'll end up w/ the Bass/treble sliders working, and the On-Screen-Display working!!
-
My fault. I shutted down the notebook and after a while i started again and after your post i checked again the treble/bass bar and it works. It's not really looking very nice but i can see the bar on the screen. I used the new drivers of your forum and not the ones of the guide. I unistalled not only the two packeges, but all the MediaSmart packeges, cause after following the guide the applications didn't start. I could see the on screen menu, but i cannot start the applications. Now it's working but the eject-button. Under Vista the ejekt button worked fine. Maybe I'm not the only one with this issue and it will be corrected in the near future.
Thanks for answers and the help. Maybe somebody solved also the eject button. It's not that important but easier for me and i used it very often. -
I have begun the fresh install of W7 Pro. I have been installing the drivers listed on first page but have hit a snag on installing the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT... can someone help me out?
Also, is it after installing the drivers that my screen (color/resolution) etc be improved? as it is now it seems like it is a 4:3 screen squished onto a widescreen.. if that makes sense.
thanks!!! -
Hi there is a New beta Driver for the graka for Windows 7 on NVIDIA Homepage but i don't knew if to post because its a beta
-
What I did was download the cab file, extract it, then go into Device Manager, right click VGA Adapter, click Update driver, then get to the part where it says Have Disk, and select the INF file that was extracted with the cab.
-
I'll be testing the new 195.39 graphics drivers to see if they are really WHQL Certified (unless someone beats me to it). There have been WHQL beta releases in the past.
-
They're not WHQL unfortunately
-
Thanks for the clarification dannyres -- I guess we'll have to wait for a WHQL release which will hopefully be soon.
-
Added Atheros wireless drivers for dv6 Quad Edition notebooks who have them. Do not install these if you have Intel WiFi Link.
10/31/2009
- Added Atheros Wireless LAN driver to version 8.0.0.172.
The original post is getting way too long...time to start re-organizing it.
-
Chart time?
-
My thoughts exactly.
However, it's going to take some time doing this -- I am actively working on it when I have time. I have converted the Intel entries for now; see the original post and provide some feedback! I want to get the layout right so that I only go through it once -- the table markup gets really hard to read and it starts to become annoying if I have to keep playing around with it.
-
The transition over to the new format continues -- check the original post for progress.
11/01/2009
- Renamed "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility" to "Intel Chipset Device Software."
- Converting driver entries to tables (work in progress).
-
Justin,
I would put a field in the table for the Supported Notebooks (hdx, dv8 etc.) and also a record for the previous version, so people can also rollback or can also clean the local repository of drivers.
Sorry but it came up to my mind now, I hope it's not too difficult to manage the tables. Are you sure it's not better to create a separate page to handle the drivers DB? For example, a nicely formatted excel file on google docs.
-
Regarding the Intel Chipset Device Software
I'm kind of afraid to install a desktop chipset driver on my notebook. Where did you hear that it's okay?
In my Device Manager, my Mobile 4 Series Chipset is using a version 6 driver. According to your link, the latest is version 9. That's a big jump.
Is it safe for me to install?
Thanks -
That's just the package version. The actual drivers inside the package have all sorts of versions.
It is safe - the files inside the package are identical to their notebook conterparts.
-
At the moment, content from Google Docs cannot be embedded into the original post unfortunately. This is due to the forum's security measures against spammers. I also do not just want to link to the doc because I would like everyone to see everything on the original post and not have to go through an additional click and access Google, etc.
For a field of supported notebooks, I'm not sure if it's necessary. The reason is because I had already specified what notebooks will work near the top of the original post. Users can assume that the drivers will work with their notebooks, except as specified in what I add in the "Important Notes" for that particular driver. (This is the main reason why I put the notes before the download links now.)
For previous versions of the driver, this might be a good idea. However, I don't keep track of older versions very well.
I'll have to dig up the previous versions and their download links again -- or you can help me find them if you're willing to.
Additionally, I'm not sure how I would add older versions into some of the tables -- some drivers for some of the components are packaged differently (also depending on the source).
-
ok thanks. So I downloaded it and it extracted and the readme came up, but I can't figure out how to install the software. I checked C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\InfInst but only 2 txt documents are in it. Where are the files and setup.exe located so I can install it?
Thanks -
Perhaps the driver release date would suffice.
-
I understand the countermeasures against spammers, but they could make an exception for the google.com domain.
I guess it would be easy if you do like this: before updating a driver, the old info (version, sp number, url) gest moved to the notes field, or a previous version specific field. It's easy, you can implement this from now on. It's just in case someone wants to roll-back one version or, like in my case, when someone has all the drivers in one directory and before downloading the new driver wants to delete the old one. I hope I've been clear enough.
I also think that Capella's suggestion is good, let's also add the release date. -
I guess they could make an exception for the Google domain, but I think it's fine -- I am actively working with the forum moderators and admins to make sure that configuring the tables will be easier. vBulletin 4 has native support for tables, which I will move to once that is deployed here on the forum.
I'll keep track of the drivers from now on then.
As for the driver dates, do you want me to put down the actual driver date of compilation? Or the date I posted the driver?
-
The volume when I use my headphones sucks....
Like it's turned all the way up and I still can't hear a damn thing.
I'm trying to install the IDT driver and I've downloaded it but I'm not too sure how to get it to be installed it. I see the note about Windows and I tried the whole "update driver" thing but it isn't working...can anyone tell me what you have to do to get it installed? -
Make sure that the device is operating correctly by making sure audio works through the speakers. Also, check to make sure that the IDT Audio device is working properly in the Device Manager. If it isn't, try the update process again using the Update Driver wizard.
You should even restart the system to see if that fixes the problem.
